In 68, the Torino Talledega was dominant in Nascar and that's why they had to come up with the Daytona and the Superbird to compete. Then I guess Ford needed to up their game again in 1970. It would have been interesting to see this more fully developed. The speeds were getting pretty ridiculous at the time though. Great find Scottie, that is an awesome machine!
Yeah this is the same car from My Classic Car. I live 10 minutes from Belfast, Tn. (where the owner of this car lives) Truly a piece of NASCAR history. The same owner also has a Spoiler II and a Thunderbolt!
In my opinion, the nose looks like a modified Datsun 240 - 280 Z car. Unique and rare for certain. Shucks, I've never heard of this car let alone seen one. Thanks for sharing.
steve has a thunderbolt he bought new ..and i think he has the other orange king cobra ..i used to see them from time to time in north bama and tennessee ...
I can just about imagine, what would have happened in NASCAR, if FoMoCo had "Worked the bugs out" of this new design, and been allowed to race it. Great video!
@RamblinAround That's right...Ford also made a Talladega model...they have a sloped nose also..but a lot less drastic than this...he has one of those up there...and I guess that Mercury made one to...because he has one of those to up there...lot of cool things to bring you from up there...this is just the tip of the ice burg...thanks for cking it out Brother!!
The front end looks a lot like my 280 z. I had a 70 Toronto coupe with a 351 Cleveland. Cannery yellow black buckets top loader four speed with a Hurst shifter all stock. It had a big cursive Ford script right above the rear tires. It had been a special order car with disc brakes and rear window defogger. I found one ad about the car and it said that it was an oval track car as it had a 300 rear gear. Damn thing ran real good and it seemed impossible to float that engine. It would do 60 in first, 85 or 90 in second and the Speedo said 120 but in third it would go right past that and keep climbing. By then I was ready to let off as I am a big ol chicken past that. No telling how fast the damn thing would have gone if I had used fourth gear. I wasn't even able to top it out in 3rd. Good solid awesome car. That's been 34 years ago. My oilfield job dried up at the time and I sold it to a buddy so I could keep my harley. Still got the same harley out in the shed!
I have a judge I shot on here..but not that one... actually I have a convertible Judge I shot up here at Floyd's..and I have one that I shot at The Grand last year...check them out when you have time...thanks for taking the time to watch this one!
I remember reading articles in the past that Ford's NASCAR divers didn't like the 70-71 Torino body for tha fact that the concave rear glass on the regular GT body acted as a wing that would lift the rearend at speeds nearing 200.
+Jersey Danny - trying to build plugs to mold the fenders & hood, so I can build a 'clone' of this King Cobra. Already built a motor (540inch) using a Ford Racing block & the Kaase "Boss 429" heads. Hit 655 hp on the dyno with a single 4barrel & hi-test pump gas (38" 2-step headers) Motor is currently in a '71 Torino, waiting for the 'clone' to get built.
i saw the old man that owns one of the cars with the two speed rear end, until then the only two speed rear from ford i remember was a colombia 2 speed, i had one in my 40 coupe.
I WATCHED THE GUY THAT BUILT THESE CARS ON A PROGRAM AND HE SAID WHEN HE CALLED NASCAR TO COME INSPECT IT , THEY SAID YOU MUST MAKE 3000 CARS , AND THAT WAS THE END. ALSO, CLEARLY YOU CAN SEE THE 494 CU. IN. ON THE PLACARD. I BELIEVE IT WAS AN ALL ALUMINUM ENGINE AS WELL.
that is true, that is why the 70, 71 Torino models have the rear window louvres. the 1969 torino talladega model was faster on the superspeedway because these would loose traction coming out of the turns. the king cobra however, was faster on the short, twisty tracks. P.S. the daytona and the superbirds had the huge spoiler only so they could open the trunk!
@kawasakif3 If it weren't for Cars and Girls...men would have most of there Money and all the sanity..just we can't live with out either...lol...can't wait to see your clone...
He used to have an orange one in there, I have pictures of it. The one I seen had a sticker that said to deliver to Bud Moore engineering in Spartanburg, S.C.
chuck clontz Bud Moore did indeed have one of these in his shop, in the late 70's. I don't know what color it was because Bud wouldn't take the car cover off and let me look at it. I was thinking it had a rear wing like the Chryslers but it's been a long time and my memory might be faulty. I had always heard that there were two of these and Bud had one and the other was in the Ford museum. That was over 30 years ago, though.
the other 2 has almost the same exact design as the dodge daytona. saw an add on them a few months ago was the other 2 and they had rear wings one had a 460 engine and the other had a 429. this one has a very different nose compaired to its other two sister cars
I hate to inform you guys, but there were actually 4 of these, this yellow one, the red one, the orange one, and a white one. No one seems to know about the white one. I have a pic of it. Just google it. It’s out there. Really surprised no one knows about it
I have only read of the three that exist, so people's information may be different. This yellow car was on an episode of My Classic Car. The orange on was the only with the 429 Boss and I am not sure of the last one. I had read that it was blue and the engine was a 429 CJ. The yellow had the 429 SCJ.
Saw a red K.C. in a video on UA-cam just last night...anyone who says that the K.C. looks like a GTO and a Vette needs to put down the pipe...I happen to love both the GTO AND the Torino, but they can NEVER be confused one for the other...not Vette crazy cuz when I had a couple of them, my 6'4" self stuck out over the damn windshield...although they were both fast, just weren't comfortable...a wookiees 2 cents given....
Was this car able to be registered? Didn't know being a prototype if Ford gave them a vin tag. Its to bad Ford didn't comply with Nascar I think its a cool looking car.
Good grief can we get somebody with a CLUE to narrate these things......'"it looks like a corvette nose, maybe chevrolet new more about aerodynamics"........uh did you ever hear of the Ford GT/LeMans effort?........Ford was lightyears ahead of everybody aerodynamically.

my buddy was up there this past weekend and showed me a picture he took of it. so i had to check it out. lol. cool stuff
Cool..thanks for stopping by...I have shot several cars from up there

@srissy007 Your right...I said Corvette..but more like a Datsun...thanks for cking it out!!
@jefferyrowe1960 I agree he is very soothing....he could sell you things you didn't want to buy..lol..thanks for stopping by!!
@gegu256 I agree..thanks for cking it out!!

@TheMoonchick Your welcome!
someone needs to make replicas of these cars
Sure!
@kawasakif3 lol... that's probably a pretty good policy...
@callrick1914 It does..thanks for cking it out!!
holman and moody did the bulk of the king cobra work and this is one that they hung onto, i suspect.
lol...thanks for checking it out!
Cool..thanks for checking it out!!
Cool..thanks for checking it out here!
a BEAUTIFUL car. Holman-Moody had one that they were experimenting with a 2-speed rear differential
+Jersey Danny Glad you liked it!

as a mustang ii lover, i am proud of how the king cobra idea came out in the end.... coolest eco-car ever made.
the 494 is a rare engine in itself

Looks like a souped up Maverick!
Thanks for checking it out!!
The museum is permanently CLOSED! 😢
Sadly Floyd died.....
I do my best Brother....glad your enjoying it!
Saw the Red one in Massachusetts back in 2004 at Seekonk Speedway
Cool.....Thanks for checking this one out here!
I like the hidden headlights better. This one looks like it has a 240Z front end...
lol..kinda

lol..yep...thanks for cking it out!
There's a guy in Gainesville Georgia that has the templates for this car's front end. He's attempting to build a tribute vehicle with a Torino 429.
+David Wendel Cool!!...
David Wendel Oh yeah I heard about that. Live near that area too :-)
Corvette nose? I am thinking more of a Z car nose. 240Z came out in 69?
I agree...the Z nose...
Sodiumreactor Exactly!! Corvette my butt
Start it up!
Sweet car Floyd.!! I wish you lifted the hood up to see the motor. I like that 1969 GTO Judge back there.. Ram Air IV?
Floyd not here...lol.....Glad you liked it!
LOL Hey Scottie.. Tell Floyd for me.. thanks
Andrew B Will do Brother!
@kawasakif3 If it weren't for Cars and Girls...men would have most of there Money and all the sanity..just we can't live with out either...lol...can't wait to see your clone...
But I love the Torino style no matter what the NASCAR drivers said.
I'm not offend...Millions....
@kawasakif3 Wow...What did he sell it?
I just seen this at Dega. So fucking cool
Cool..Thanks for checking it out here!!
@@ScottieDTV Didn't realize what I seen on Sunday until today
@@rich6485 Cool!

I seen it at Floyd Garrett's muscle car museum in Tennesee. It is orange and black.
chuck clontz This is the one from Floyd's....
bad boy
For sure!!
the other 2 has almost the same exact design as the dodge daytona. saw an add on them a few months ago was the other 2 and they had rear wings one had a 460 engine and the other had a 429. this one has a very different nose compaired to its other two sister cars
460? nope
Wtf? NASCAR didn't try to stop the Torino project
its like a 280zx crossed with a gto...

Cool...it has a sloped nose...people are going to compare..
At 02:26 "... it resembles a Corvette..." ... NO !!! It resembles a Datsun 240 Z !!!
+FakeItalianoII Relax....
+ScottieDTV LOL !!! ok ... Was just saying, that's all ... :)
FakeItalianoII to be fair it was designed by the same man who designed the corvette. Larry Shinodah
the front looks like the old nissan Z
just wanted to let u know my friends own one ........
The front of the vehicle looks exactly like the Nissan 280Z. Wondering if Ford cut off the front end of the Nissan and put it on the Torino.
All I know is in the video...sorry
since the 280Z did not appear until about 7 years later I would say no.
Was this car able to be registered? Didn't know being a prototype if Ford gave them a vin tag. Its to bad Ford didn't comply with Nascar I think its a cool looking car.
D Fuller Not sure about the vin.....But I think NASCAR changed the rules on Ford...
Looks nothing like a Corvette. More like precursor to the hideous Nissan 280zx
If car has 429 in it, why the plaque in front of car say 494?
+suomenpresidentti No idea....
king 280zx
lol
How about the 1970 Ford Talladega and the Mercury Cyclone Spoiler
nascar was trying to protect gm,especially chevy
They still do!
It's an King Ranch 240Z..........
looks like a 280 z
I think the Datsun 240z stole its design ques from this car.
lol...I would like to think that to...but in reality.....the wind tunnel decides that
hi, no they stole there front design from the xke jaguar,,and chevrolet stlole the rear axel of the jag for there corevettes.
Nobody made you watch this video?...lol....
so ugly, it's beautiful
That's BS I got 4 at home :)
Prove it
A corvette bumper, would you all agree?
No offense but that is the ugliest car eva!!! How much is it worth?
I really appreciate the olden looks of muscle cars.
