He's one of the few that isn't political or worried about ridiculous tech specs like when a game isn't 60 fps. He's focused on the actual quality of the games and how fun they are without being spoiled by over the top graphics and lack of substance in modern games.
The screen is still amazing. I'm shocked at the brightness and clarity every time I turn mine on. The vita has better resolution. But the screen just feels cheap compared to the psp. And the ds doesn't have nearly as nice of one.
I bought and own a used PSP 1000 model which is in a very good condition. PSP is a great handheld, especially once you jailbroken it. Now I also have a PS Vita which I also jailbroken and it's definetly my favourite handheld console I have ever gotten. Same with PSP. I was always jealous of those in the past who got their PSP's, but I never got one myself, because my parents always look at game consoles and think gaming is only aimed at children, which is false in every way. Plus, since I live in a small country that doesn't pay as well as bigger countries do, I don't think my parents would have been able to buy me a PSP even if they wanted to. But still, I am very happy to own both a PSP and a PS Vita and I have both of them in my posession. Every time I fire up my PSP it's just hits me with nostalgia. That PSP start up sound is just beautiful.
I've never been too big on gaming channels, but I've recently found Basement Gamer and Retro Bird on the same day, and goddamn.. It's like finding 2 gold nuggets in the endless stream of trash.
God the PSP was incredible and so ahead of its time when it came out. I was 12 at the time and was just in total awe when I held one in person. Now its time for you to get a Vita! (and mod it)
If you haven't already, you should also look at getting and trying a PS Vita. It's a very underrated handheld and I've been using the hell out of mine for the past 8 or so years. It really is a great device but I won't deny that it definitely could've been so much more if Sony didn't abandon it so quickly.
Ive recently bought One and love it. Só Many fun games like uncharted. And its actually portable, it fits on my pocket, unlike the huge Steam Deck. I take it everywhere. It makes me feel like a kid again playing psp, but its a much better PSP. I wish Sony released another one, same size with improved specs
@rodrigohorsilly8010 Yeah, Uncharted is great. If you don't have it you should definitely get Killzone Mercenary as well. It is a fantastic game. It's like late cycle PS3 quality
Congrats and welcome to the club. I only picked mine up around 2014-2015 and had a great time. I especially enjoyed ps1 games and Japanese rhythm games on it. Around 2017 I picked up a vita and it eventually became my main handheld up to this day, but recently I've been feeling like going back to my PSP and fixing it since the screen got some nasty lines while it was put away, and I need to get a new battery.
Love the PSP, remember as a kid when my older brother got a PSP and being so blown away by its graphics compared to my DS. First game that I saw and played on it was GTA: Liberty City Stories as he got it with the system.
That thing was a beast of a handheld back in the day. I was blown away playing GTA Liberty City Stories and Tekken 5 in 2005 on my hand! This was PS2 level graphics! Then it had video playback, music, and pictures, and this was all BEFORE the very first iPhone. This was back when people still had flip phones so video on handheld was unheard of. And for a 19 year old handheld, it's an impressive emulator as it can play PSP, PS1, GBA, GBC, GB, N64, NES, SNES, Turbografx, SEGA GEN, GG, MS, Arcade CPS1 CPS2, homebrew, etc...
Man I just broke this thing to pieces had all my games on the memory stick. And even turned the battery into a modified battery that if I plug it into other PSPs it'll put them into a jailbroken state. And all this is talking past tense but I still have it and it still works lol. Loving your channel bro subscribe!
Top video mate! Im 35 and have been collecting retro PlayStation games/consoles for a couple of years, you cant beat playing the games you grew up with on the actual console! My personal favourite being the PS2 and PSP.
The PSP was my first mp3 player. I listened to music or gamed on the way school every morning as a kid. Bought another one a few years ago and put homebrew on it. It's a great system.
My favorite youtuber talking about my favorite handheld..is it my birthday? Lmao. Great video brother! Suggestions you need to pick up gta vice city stories and Kingdom Hearts Birth by sleep!
I remember the PSP fondly. I played alot of Need for Speed and Midnight Club on it. Nowadays I have a blue PSP and I use the music functionality on it. Marvelous device
Much love from the UK, I subscribed when you first started, and your content is amazing. I have an ungodly obsession with the PSP, and I'm surprised nobody has mentioned custom firmware. I won't say much about it here, but a quick google search will unlock the device to emulators, game backups, and many more features. Keep the good content coming
I always look forward to your videos. Entertaining and informative. I share your passion for retro console gaming but I’m not good at making videos. I have a collection of modded consoles. I enjoy your videos, thanks 👍🏻
Great to see you taking on classic handhelds! Hope that Vita comes next in the future :) Also, some video suggestion - getting a special TV dedicated for PS3 - Sony Bravia 3DTV - it's really something special (but also kinda hard to find)
Still have my god of war red psp and my assassin's creed white oled ps vita. Put a new screen in my psp and a new battery since the old one got swollen and the screen had lines. Its like new now and Im happy to display it as such. My vita is jailbroken so i run it overclocked with adrenaline and my vita is still like new condition because after i bought it i played it maybe twice. Just sat in the box. Jailbreaking it gave it a new life and its sooooooo awesome. Ps1 ps vita PSP games plus retro arch. ❤❤
PSP was my absolute favorite growing up! Though I went through probably 10+ devices since then and now, each one I owned was a thrill with the impressive list of games. Currently rocking a PSvita, but with PSP emulation it's the ULTIMATE portable retro setup IMO haha
To me the PSP/DS era was the strongest era, with a huge library. I love the ps1 remakes on psp or even close to ps2 graphics like the 1st monster hunter game😃
The PSP runs on an older kind of Wi-fi. That's the simplest way to can explain it, i guess. I create a hot-spot via my phone and connect my PSP to that instead whenever need to use the internet features. Also: Buy Loco Roco for the PSP. Such a jolly game!
Man a psp was like the coolest thing when I was a kid , loved it to death , I dont know what happend to it though like how have we not had a new psp yet
I play PSP games all the time, but I do it on my Vita. The Vita is great, but it really opens up when you install custom firmware and can add any PS1 and PSP game you want to it. The amount of good PSP games is bananas.
As far as I can remember, in terms of portable gaming, there were like gameboys, tamagotchi's and snake on nokia when the PSP released and that was about it. This thing was revolutionary
"I was almost breaking this thing" I remember when I bought my first game for PSP, I spent 40 minutes trying to figure out how to get the disc out of the plastic casing. Turns out it doesn't come out of the plastic casing, but 10 year old me wouldn't have any idea otherwise.
the PSP is awesome. there are a ton of great games for it that still hold up. many of which didn't come out on other platforms like the 2 Untold Legends games, some God of War games, Jeanne D'arc (not cheap), Wipeout Pure, and Me & My Katamari. It's also a great way to play some casual games like Lumines, or Puzzle Quest, or JRPGs like FF Tactics. I think the battery life and nub of a joystick are the biggest downsides, but it's still a lot of fun to play all these years later. Enjoy!
Psp has gone up crazy in value lately. I picked 2 up with loads of extras for £25 at a bootsale the other day. Crazy that your on this system this week
It's such a premium feeling device. And the design still holds up to this day! If only they had another analog stick and some L2-R2 buttons too. It would've been even more godly.
PSP is an amazing console. I had one when I was a child and another one that i sadly dropped to the floor a couple of months ago that cannot read the discs anymore.
Got the PSP Go and Vita TV they’re honestly my favorite consoles, PSP Go might be the best media player and connecting to old PS3 firmware imo but even just using it as not part of the PS eco system you have a lot of options in games and emulators

These were so bad ass back when I was in elementary. I was fortunate enough to scoop a used 3000 back in 2010 and still use to this day when I don't have my RP3, the gameboy emulator works great and the feeling of the buttons goes with it incredibly well. PS1 as well is pretty enjoyable. The music player too was good at the time too considering there was no need of buying an iPod or a Zune at the time. (ok maybe the Zune because of its hard drive space lol)
Wow. I cant believe you did't had a PSP? Back in the days this was fire. Imagine mobil gaming was practically non existent, I mean there was Ngage, but most of the mobile games were more similar to SNES games, than games that were run on PSP. It was a huge leap in handheld gaming. I still have the latest model (Street). Nowadays I use the Switch more, but for my taste the Switch is big, and I'm more confortable with the size of the PSP.
Wow those psp game cases look very similar in size to those of the Switch. And I do feel the same about your assessment of physical media still holding up against today’s and possibly even bettering it in some cases.
Been playing Gamecube games on my steam deck lately, a console I totally missed back in the day. I feel like you when I play it, everything is amazing. F-Zero GX is better than having a slice of pizza at a pina colada party.
You can get a memory card adapter that let's you use regular micro sd cards and can store loads of stuff on it. The PSP is also great for emulating loads of systems.
I was playing my PSP the other night. Not sure if you're aware but you can play the PSP without the batter pack in the console. You have to play with it plugged in though. This tip may come in handy if your battery decides to swell up and crap out on you.
I remember putting hours into Twisted Metal Head-On and SmackDown vs RAW 2006-2011 on my PSP! I miss my PSP! 😭 I wish I could play those games on my PS Vita without modding it.
It truly was the first premium mobile gaming device from a big company. GTA Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories 6-player multiplayer was GODLY. Funner than both GTA 4 and V online put together. PS Vita not having a GTA San Andreas Stories with THAT fun of a multiplayer mode really tanked it’s sales+potential even before it came out.
I still love my PSP. It definitely had its limitations, but it's still great. Some recommended games... 3rd Birthday God of War both games Grand Theft Auto both games MotorStorm Arctic Edge Resistance Retribution Syphon Filter both games
I was one of the lucky people who were able to multiplayer on psp, games like star wars battlefront and Arctic Edge motorstorm. Before they killed Gamespy servers
The differences between PSP 1000 and the other 2000/3000 are: - the design more thinner and brighter screen on 3000 - more ram (32mb vs 64mb) - no IR receiver on 2000/3000 - faster loading apps - less battery - you can charge the psp 2000/3000 via usb cable while you transfer data from your pc I'm a owner of 3 psp (1 broken 3004, 1 fully functional 1000, 1 fully functional 3000), but this is an advice for you: for unlock the full experience of psp you should watch how to jailbreak the psp via infinity mod, simply you can transfer on your sd card the ISOs of games and simply run pressing X button in Games section. Personally i use my PSPs to play amazing games like God of War (chains of olympus and ghost of sparta) and the two Syphon Filter games. There are many hidden gems on this system PLUS you can run homebrew apps like GeMP and Homer'S RIN so you can play gameboy advance and gameboy color games in wide screen and with a brighter screen than a game boy :) Last year when i went to bruxelles for the annual FOSDEM some people showed a project to port on PSP the NDS emulator but is not stable yet.
Yeah i know that feeling of putting pillows behind your back for that extra comfort. It ain't no joke, i put two behind my back every night before i game 😂
Awesome. Now jailbreak it and get an microSD card adaptor and have all your games oon that and now more needing the UMD. Did it on mine and love it. Nice thing is it doesn't need any mods to the hardware!
If possible, try to get your hands on the psp 3000 monster hunter edition. It has the body of the 1000, ability to take beefier batteries and has the screen of the 3000. Looks great too. Mat finish. Concave joystick.
PSP is a very good console, even though I own an OLED Vita I still want a PSP because I don't if just because I never played on PSP but I believe games run blurry and with worse performance on Vita because it's emulation, I wish I can get my hand on a good condition 3000 model and I believe you should have picked that model too since the screen is more brighter and way better than all other models
When that came out I traded all my systems for it , just traded everything in because I had to have it . Dumbest thing I ever did 😂 then a few years back I bought another for old times sake , again it was a very dumb decision lol it just wasn't the same . Sold it off and will probably never own one again lol but who knows .
The PSP and the PS Vita were both ahead of their time. Enjoy it man!
I was actually playing Run Sackboy Run on my Vita last night. It's a free game and still has pretty impressive graphics.
really enjoying it so far, it's insane PSP is 20 years old almost
Im already convinced this is the greatest youtube channel ever

I just like listening to him talk, it's why I subbed lol
PSP has aged like fine wine. That screen in 2004 was amazing
The screen is still amazing. I'm shocked at the brightness and clarity every time I turn mine on. The vita has better resolution. But the screen just feels cheap compared to the psp. And the ds doesn't have nearly as nice of one.

Yeah i know that feeling of putting pillows behind your back for that extra comfort. It ain't no joke, i put two behind my back every night before i game 😂
Those posters are dope!
I can’t wait until 2036 when you unbox a Vita, you’re gonna love it
You should try the Ps Vita too (make sure its modded to get the FULL experience of what vita players LOVE)
I would recommend getting the newer models you will be able to connect them to your TV and play on your TV
Guys, just imagine how much fun basement gamer would have with a fully modded PS Vita
I was like you and missed out on early 2000 to mid 2000 games and consoles.
I remember I had MLB 2K8 for it and it rocked
The resolution is sharp for the screen the psp included.
Wait until you try a modded PS Vita that can turn into a PSP
I had one as a teenager but unfortunately I ended up throwing it against the wall in a fit of rage lol
Yeah the only thing I really know that went wrong with the first version 1001 model was the battery would bloat and you had to replace it
GTA LCS and GTA VCS are awesome, and everyone should try them
That mom part had me rolling
Hot shots golf is awesome
i love this guy 😎
If you play things from disc the battery will drain faster.
My man writes a novel for what could have been said on a pamphlet. 😅
When that came out I traded all my systems for it , just traded everything in because I had to have it . Dumbest thing I ever did 😂 then a few years back I bought another for old times sake , again it was a very dumb decision lol it just wasn't the same . Sold it off and will probably never own one again lol but who knows .
