While DCF is water resistant it will eventually wet out. There’s a better solution than a pack cover though. A nylofume bag liner is the way to go. Weighs almost nothing (we’re talking ~10 grams) and is completely waterproof. Insert liner, insert stuff in liner, twist and tuck like a loaf of bread, close pack. Then when it starts raining you don’t have to stop hiking. Great review, man!
Yes, those bags are sweet (and loud)! Great recommendation - thanks!
This is exactly the review I have been looking for. Thank you!
22" torso, trampoline back, daypack-to-weekend size, good side pockets, flexible features. Nice.
Also thanks for mentioning the rarity of adjustable frames with trampoline backs. I was trying to figure that out, but looking at a zillion reviews made my brain hurt. You narrowed down the search to three brands, which makes it much easier. EDIT: 2:51 ZPacks, Osprey, Gregory
There are a lot of reviews on the 'Net. Somehow your style matches my analytical engineer mind. I appreciate the detail and real-world experience that you add.
Philosophy folks and engineers have similar thought patterns. ;) Glad it helped!
@@BackcountryPilgrim I occasionally encounter philosophy (and classics) people in engineering fields.
As you say, studying the theory of everything is not all that dissimilar from engineering.
Thanks for another great review Doug. Happy Holidays!
Nice review! Definitely a lot of great info!
I did the Camino by bike a few years ago. You're going to have a great time! I've been to Europe over 20 times on vacation and that trip is still my favorite!
This will be my second and most likely last trip to Europe and I'm very excited. Thank you!
Excellent review of the Arc Blast! I have been eyeing this pack for a long time now and own a Nero by Zpacks, but want something a little larger and with the arc for air flow, etc. Thanks for sharing such great information about this pack, and Buen Camino!
I had fun making it, thanks!
Love your page!!! You are both thorough and concise! It seems the blast isn’t in your gear rotation. What happened? I’m about to have a head explosion picking a pack and the Blast is in the running for me. Thanks!
Thank you! The arc wasn't comfortable enough and I didn't like the arc system. It felt insecure and fragile to me. I know some guys that swear by them but it just wasn't my thing. :)
I like the review, thank you very much! Which torso length is the pack in the video? Did you already try it out in pouring rain? How "waterproof" is it? Thanks.
@@BackcountryPilgrim Thank you for your answer. What will be your waterproofing strategy? Liner, Pack Cover and/or Dry Bags? I normally use a pack cover and dry bags with my silnylon pack. However, it would be great to ditch the pack cover and save some weight. Do you think that this may be possible with such a water-resistant pack as the Zpacks?
I ended up getting the ArcHaul versus the blast. I wish I would have gotten the blast because it is lighter and more water resistant. What pack do you use for shorter hikes? Just subbed!
Nice! On short hikes I use my Zerk 40 (see review). It's a good combo of lightweight and comfortable - plus the front pockets rule! :) I would like something more waterproof though - I am looking at the ULA packs.
@@BackcountryPilgrim Will check out the review! I use the Gossamer Gear Kumo and love it! There is a lot of gear reviews and hiking videos on my channel that you might be interested in. Would love to hear your feedback! Cheers

i section hiked with the Nero 38 and it was great, but i didn't take a sleep system. is the arc blast carry on, or would i have to check it?
According to Zpacks, The short and medium size frames will fit into an airplane overhead bin with the top rolled down to the frame. The tall size frame may not fit unless you pop the vertical frame bars out of the pack.
I'd check with the airline to make sure of their carryon size as not all are the same.
@@BackcountryPilgrim luckily i am a medium. the nero 38 fit in the overhead with room to spare. i guess i could order it and measure.
hi~my torsos is 20 inches, should I aim into S or M? And how long your torsos?
My torso is 19 in so I went with the small and with the adjustability it was fine. My guess would be that a medium would be safer for you, but I would actually call them and discuss it with them because zpacks return policy is kind of sketchy. They're very cool about working with you to make sure that you get the right pack ahead of time but once you get it it's pretty much yours.
