OHHH YURRRRRR!!!
Holy shit, sampling Glenn.
James Moran and we all know how much Glenn loves drum samples :D
66Samus That was fucking legend man! It's so ironic!
66Samus Invisible cymbals?
+66Samus Ver 3. is Dubstep I think.
+James Moran I sence a disturbance in the force!
Two toms. No cymbals. No snare. But two bass drums.
This man has his priorities straight.
Stinky bass line has me hysterical because I’m five. (I think people are taking my comment as sarcastic, it isn’t not. I merely stating I will laugh at farts like a child no matter how old. I also think it may have been that I forgot to put the 0 at the end because I was fifty at the time of writing it lol)
No worries, I’m breaking down to and I’m five hundred fifty five

Jeffmetal 42 Fuckin love dis gui
That Glenn fricker part had me rolling!! great vid!
2021 and this is still the most informative trigger video out there! And it's got a squeaky fart as the icing on the cake!!
2023 and still one of the best videos on triggers!!
wow, thank you!!!!
I fucking lost it when you sampled Glenn Fricker :')
Holy shit the Sexy Bass line. I was not prepared.
Triggers are great. It can be used like re-amping guitars and such. You can record a MIDI performance of a live drummer, and then go back and change the sounds. You can add electronic drums to your acoustic kit without having an electric kit or creating a hybrid. It's a win/win.
I understand the concept and use of triggers, but I have a question though. What's the point of buying a hell of a good sounding drumset if you're gonna use triggers?
You could combine the acoustic sound and the triggered samples together. It's useful in some cases.
For example, check out the live performance video of the song "Drunk" by Sungazer. The drummer has triggers on the kick, snare and floor tom, to play 808 sounds along with the drums.
Imagine you want a freackin coubel and you don’t have one
Erik LMX aaah a man of culture I see.
@@ErikLMX polyphia also does a great job mixing triggers and real drums.
@@lt-yx1hx Yeah, and in their case it sounds amazing. :D
My problem with triggers isn't that they are cheating, but that many drummers produce a ultra precise but ultra boring drum sound with them. They kill all the dynamics and take all the bass out of their bass drum. I like a more natural sound.
+DoomTobi That has bothered me too. Using triggers during recording should give endless options of great drums yet loads of albums have the same generic sound. Then again there were trends in sound way before triggers became standard practice.
My problem with triggers is that it is cheating, but not necessarily for the drummer. It's cheating for the engineer.
A big part of what you're paying a recording engineer for is getting the drum sounds right. It takes years to do that. You gotta know how your room works. You gotta know how drums sound in your room. You gotta know how to tune drums for your room (because an astounding number of drummers don't know how). You gotta know about mic placement. You gotta know about phase relationships. You gotta know how to deal with bleed. Or you can use triggers and Toontracks and replace all your bad work. This stuff is great for the guy recording at home. It pisses me off, however, when I walk into a studio I'm paying for and the dude pulls out a bunch of triggers for the drums. Take some pride in your work, for fuck sake.
The editing is where the cheating for the drummer comes in.
yea it makes it sound too digital and monotonous. You need to hear the analog essence of the instrument, it sounds different depending on how you hit the material and triggers dont really transfer any of that.
OR just make the clicks not so loud. just to make it cut through better. Like in dubstep. Lots of low end. But also high end so it cuts through
That's not the actual trigger doing that, that is the DRUMMER's fault for selecting a shitty overly "clicky" drum sound.
If you are triggering, go listen to the country song "Kentucky Mine" by Diamond Rio. I picked this song because it isn't a metal song, but it has a great kick sound that cuts through, and will sit well in the mix . You get a thump and a mallet slap without the obnoxious "click", and by the way - Stryper was using that clicky kick sound in like 1986.
Think outside of the clicky kick box.
I'm not even a drummer, but i find your videos very interesting and informative. And you're sense of humor is hilarious. :) :)
he's a very informative drummer

Very interesting...You explained the function of triggers very well. Thanks. I learned something valuable as I am just starting out in the realm of electronic drums.
Man you have come a long way since you made this one.
"Technical difficulties"
I got the pun way too late
W8 there is a pun?
+Drink Me Because the double bass was so fast --> *technical* difficulties

+justin thymes But of course.
It honestly surprises me you don't have more subs, you're one of the gnarliest drummers I've ever seen!
2:33 sounds like a nice drum kit for a genre like dubstep or something
ok boomer
@@Drum4evr22 does it not?
@@Multi-Waves_Sketchbook sounds nothing like dubstep, dubstep drums are fat asf
@@Drum4evr22 that's not necessarily true, also just add some Ott and you have some dubstep drums
@@Multi-Waves_Sketchbook lol thats a good point. This sounds like more industrial tho
Awesome video! The internet needed this haha 1:48 killed me, plus nice Decrepit Birth sticks!!
Mooooore of theeeeeeese pleeeeeeaaaase! Brilliant vid!
ur now one of my favorite drummers. im in tears lol great demonstration vid!
Honestly Samus, you're the fucking best! Not only by far the best explanations, but hilarious too.. You're one of the best players I've seen! I saw Decrepit Birth in Toronto, killer show!
Hilarious video! Although on why some people think triggering is cheating: its to do with the threshold and dynamics settings. Watch the drum cams of Inferno from Behemoth and you'll see he plays with no power whatsoever. If a microphone was placed in front of the drum you wouldn't be able to hear his kick at all. Some people keep the threshold settings super low but the dynamics at maximum so that they could hit the drum with a feather and you could still be able to hear powerful kick sound. Personally I have no problem with them but thats what I've heard.
ITS NOT FUCKING ROCKET SCIENCE!
cjetelomar2010 for fuck's sake, in *the pussy
Thanks for the explanation...I wish you all the success in the world!!!
Great video. Learned what I wanted to know, and had fun doing it. Thanks!
Im a grown ass man and stinky bass line had me dying
The ending just fucking killed me!
This may be the best video I've seen in weeks, you my friend are a diamond :)
I bought a Roland TD~15 Kit with extra Cymbal pads a few years ago. LOVE IT
Quit talking shit about bass players, man! We're actually a great people... when we don't drink... or sleep... or breathe...
you had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
Lmao
"Triggers are also useful when your bass player forgets to show up to a gig". I lol'd
That bass line usage thing is sick. I didn't know about that , ohh yurrrr 🤘🏻
I Really Like Your Take In How You Present Your Content.
Why am i watching this? I play piano not drum!!
Fascinating to see what musicians from other instruments do!
+mr_os Why wouldn't you be watching this? I am a classically trained violinist, with about 13 years of playing experience and I try to jam on the guitar and bass, too. I just recently purchased an ukulele as well. This is entertaining and very informative and I think it's cool to know how other instruments work!
I have no idea why or how I got here, but not only did I laugh my ass off but also learned a couple things. There's 5 minutes of my life that I don't actually regret on UA-cam...
Entertaining and you shared some stuff I did not know.
Subscribed.
All the songs you play are really good !
Samus looks so *freaking badass* with those piercings and that beard!
The funky bass line reminded me of Seinfeld 😂😂
Bro. I love you man!
Thanks for all you share
LOL! Excellent demonstration. I'm glad you cleared up the misconception that using triggers is "cheating".
While you have to hit every note to get the trigger sound, you can hit it at any strength, which can cause some problems. If you are playing with triggers all the time, it can make you play weaker and weaker because the trigger react to any touch of the drum. So if you are playing "trigger mode" on drums without triggers, it's going to sound weak and dull, at least if you're going 230bpm on double kick, for example. Point is, that triggers can teach players to be lazy with the strength of each stroke and completely destroy a players dynamic.
+Alf A Romeo you can with a velocity setting.
Velocity settings are hit or miss though (no pun intended) unless you have a NICE ekit or trigger set
You had me cracking up at the technical difficulty with your double bass!!
Thanx for the explaining bro your awsome. Drums are coming up to speed. I was watching your newer trigger vid but didn't know what they were now I do...I used to play double bas but got my left leg riped off and put back together so I can't bent enuff to do double pedal. I might get some triggers to get me into it again. I been playing guitar but drums were my first 🍒 👌. So I miss the caveman I stiment so bad... Glad I found you...fun to watch stay safe bro...keep it up....wish I could jam with a guy like you.. most of my projects were with nerds or guys that suck lol...I might b the problem.lol🤘

OMG! Very helpful and interesting and I LMFAO! Love the ending dude!

I laughed so hard when he said triggers aren't cheating and the double bass went off.

The part with Glenn Fricker is outstanding. Love you man, you are too funny.
The sexy bass line sounds like something I would take to a gig
4:51 LOOOL man u so real with us xD
Dude, you kill me! Thank you🙏
2021...still watching this masterpiece ... and it brought me into using triggers myself back in the days :D
Dude. The beard and piercings REALLY fits you! You look badass as FUCK! 🤘🏻
4:17 ahhahahaahaaha duuud u've made my day xd
you're awesome dude, subbed
This was an awesome video explanation. I don't play drums but I have heard of them via bands like Fear Factory. Much love
im not a drummer or anything but i wanted to throw my opinion out there. In my eyes, if you can't play it live... its cheating. if you CAN play it live, no cheating. its not the tool that makes it "cheating" or not. its how you use it.
4:18, jeremey spencer drum solo in a nutshell
Now this is the type of quality content I subscribe for
well that was cool as shit. I have never heard of this channel, but I already dig it. anyone trying to share music knowledge on any level is pretty great, and this clears up a lot of misinformation in a short time. great job!
Damn son, that stinky bass made me LOL. And I'm a freakin' adult.
Wisdom of Glenn Fricker: In order to destroy the samples, one must first become the samples.
Man. Love you so much and loved so hard:)
You made my day man
Can somebody tell me the outro song
Intro/Outro song please?
i love glenn fricker at the end! great vid man. i would to see how you are processing in post, thanks!
What a great explanation!!!!

+Zone Television Weird Al Yankovic!
+Zone Television what's ritalin? ._.
+FreakDaGeek I just commented on that
Nah looks like Guthrie Govan
I never thought of using drum triggers for the bass.
That is a sweet idea as the bass player usually follows kicks pretty closely.
This vid earned you a sub, also cool drum set up
Thanks for this. I'm no drummer but I've often wondered about triggers.
Welcome to another episode of _Metal Drumming with Weird Al Yankovic,_ ladies and gentlemen! :)
thought this was gonna be an explanation of the trigger mechanism
Well, okay. :D Love that video. You know, I also kinda like the fact that you've got that tom in there as a snare. Shows off the point quite nicely.
This was a lot funnier than I expected. Love from the UK
I like this guy. He not a fake ass punk who has only played with only triggers. Hell, I've been playing since I was 10 years old.
lysyrg25 what's the fucking problem with using triggers? You're not cheating as said in the video damn
And you're what, 15 now? Pfft you're no professional.
Intraterrestrial and you are? That’s was the most idiotic thing I’ve ever read. Even he’s only 15 I bet he’s better than you
WHATS THE INTRO SONG I MUST KNOW
Nice video, man! Thanks!
I've saw a few of your cover videos and never considered subscribing to you now! You're probably one of the most down to earth musicians on this platform! Keep On Rocking :D
Can anyone tell me what is the title of the intro song?
+Domonics Dániel darude sandstorm

it's a song from decrepit birth, but I can't find it, help me pls :D
The outro riff was fucking fierce, where is it from?
What a beat concept, neat concept. Yes triggers are *not* cheaters. Good sampling too enjoyed those and he's a good narrator. 👍🍻
Dude.... Great explanation!... I had no idea what these were? I would say its the best (Simplistic - But simple IS Best) explanation of drum triggers out there. Thanks brother.
P.S. Kick ASS!!... Double kick technique!! You can see your calf muscles BULGING out of your legs bro! A teacher told me that is the best sign of a well trained "double kicker."
Tanks allot.
How can you use samples, do I need a sample pad too? I've been thinking of sampling a machine gun.
Chickenp00nage2 double bass machine gun, please fucking do it
