It’s utterly time-consuming and I suppose pretty boring, but there’s definitely something enjoyable and cathartic about unloading and re-loading a bookshelf. Dunno what. Maybe the sound of a sliding book? The smell?
I lived with a housemate that I met while I was in uni and we lived together throughout our studies. We decided that it was best to just combine our bookcases in what we affectionately dubbed the 'book room', which was this room in an old Victorian that had these gorgeous floor to ceiling windows that showed the entire downtown and waterfront. However, my friend/housemate was an English major who fell in love with English medieval/early renaissance literature and her shelves reflected that while my shelves just had whatever I was interested in at the time. We shared a passion for classic literature and housemate and I would always go out to the secondhand bookshops to get all the books we wanted. It's how I figured out that if you are a student of literature, that it's best hitting up the secondhand bookshops. Usually students couldn't bring back what they had to study so they'd bring them to the secondhand shops and get more books. We would have kept our books separate if we had the space in our rooms, but is often the case in old Victorians, you get huge common areas but small bedrooms with these horrid sloping walls/ceilings. Our bedrooms had enough space for a desk and maybe a small little bookcase for our textbooks and a bed and dresser. So putting our books in a shared space was the best option for us. This is an apartment in Emmie's case, so having her books on full display in the living room is the next best option. Hopefully, her roommate loves to read, too. That would be the best roommate, in my opinion. It's so rare to find one with shared interests!
True but also I would be elated if my roommate had a library that I could admire and borrow from and I didn't have to pay for any of it??? That's like the absolute dream.
When I moved from the house I was living in before this one I had to get rid of 24 boxes of books, because I didn't have the space for them. A second-hand bookshop came and collected them all. But it was a painful experience.
That is what I should have done, instead of being surrounded by bookcases and piles of books constantly worrying the floor will give way and I end up in the flat downstairs.
Is it just me, but I have a hard time letting go of my books even though I already read them and didn't like the story. I still kept them on my shelves! I'm so sentimental 😂 anw, we can't wait for you to settle down to your new condo/apartment. Looking forward to watch the bookshelves tour soon 📚
Many many congratulations The new place looks gorgeous And I’m super excited for all the new videos Hope you are doing well You deserve all the happiness and love
Moving is so stressful, I moved several times in my childhood though not for several years, and watching you go through the process of packing all your books and say goodbye to a place brought back all the memories. It is also so stressful so take care of yourself!
Every time you talk about your old apartment, I think of the Barenaked Ladies song. The new apartment looks awesome and it the kind of apartment that I have always dreamed of having.
I teared up a bit when you left the old place, because it feels like that is where I met a friend. Of course I’ll miss that balcony view too, but I’m beyond thrilled that you are in a place where you can thrive and be safe. Can’t wait to see you make the place your own!
You ended up keeping Ninth House... dang lol. I also detested that book. The new space looks so amazing! Much bigger and more open, I think that will be great for you! Also, awesome that you have such a chill roommate who will let you put your huge bookshelves right there 😂 Looks amazing though!
I’m so happy to see you excited and inspired in your new abode. Can’t wait to see you continue to grow and discover all things beautiful. You are a delight and I’m so glad I found your channel xx
Enjoy this new chapter of your life! Your apartment looks amazing and it sounds like it has turned out to be a good move for you! I love your art work. I especially like the mushrooms! Wishing you happiness and health and....more books!!!!
It’s so lovely to see you in your beautiful new place! Those floors! That kitchen! Those windows! You will infuse it with art and plants and little Emma trinkets.
Thanks for taking us along on your journey, Emma. The new place looks great. You will be happy there. And thank you for playing my favorite melody of all time, Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1.
In Britain you can buy wall hooks by a company called Command. You don't have put holes in the wall and you can move pictures about like the Kelvingrove Art Gallery.
I'm going through the same struggles right now. Moved to a new place, just starting up uni again, just built myself a big desk too lol. Also struggling with health, and anxiety. It is so exhausting and tiring. Take care of yourself and enjoy the new place! Take time for yourself :) Thank you for your videos. They make me feel like I'm not overreacting about my struggles and that other people are doing it and feeling the same way❤️❤️❤️
I hope the move went smoothly, I am so happy for your new beginnings!! I will have an amazing time watching the moving vlogs(was waiting for it lol) and I hope you have a great day ahead!
This new place is so nice. I'm glad you like it too. It's cool to see you explore the new nature areas by you. The area you live in in general is so cool. Your home is in a populated, city area, but you are also a walking distance for the immersion of nature. You have the best of both environments!
It seems so paradoxical how, upon the beginning of something new, we can find ourselves attached to bad memories and places. I know I did, but what counts is to move on. Hope your new home will be less troublesome and attached to all sorts of happy memories!
videos like this drive home the point that i have so little stuff. i recently moved and it took me half a day to pack. moving and packing is so stressful, especially when you have a lot of stuff and you have to pick which to leave behind. i hope this was at least cathartic for you and congrats on moving into a new home!
Oh, I’m so happy for you! Your new apartment looks so so good 😍 I’m currently in the process of unhauling books as well and it has been…interesting. I didn’t know I could get attached to something I didn’t particularly enjoy and have no intention to reread! Ah!
Yay! Congrats on the move! It is emotional whenever you move. I always want to burn all of my possessions after realizing how many boxes I have to move. LOL
Ah!! And i totally understand the feeling of impostor syndrome that "i don't deserve this good place to live". I totally get it!!!! And OF COURSE YOU DESERVE IT!! WE DO!
I hope you can pick up a book again. I had to learn from experience to not force yourself to do something that your brain's not ready for. It caused me to hate books for awhile even though I loved the sight of them and bought them all the time.
@@TiffWaffles Yeah! I have recently got into reading the song of achilles. And that and the people on BookTube as I like to call it. Have got me into reading again! ^-^
End of an era yet beginning of another. Best wishes for your journey at the new apartment. I always love watching your old videos, probably going to be a little nostalgic watching them. Also turn that little corner between shelves into a magical portal 😃
you should be sure to get a art easel for your new room and some canvas/ art supplies to start painting and put those painting shirts to some use lol, congrats on your move !
This Grami is so proud for you!I Love your new Apartment ❤ Is your roommate ever in your videos? Possible missed that one. Your walking trail🚶♂️and the grounds are so nice!! Many blessings!!
Congratulations on your new home for you and your housemate. It looks beautiful and modern. I'm sure you will cook up some Vegan storms in the new kitchen......
Ahh I'm detesting having to move some day, because the idea of having to get rid of some of my books because I may not have space for all of them in my new place breaks my heart 😩even if I don't like the book, or I never read it, I still get so emotionally attached to every book I own 😩😩I'm such a hoarder lol😂and oh gosh when I first moved from my previous apartment (where I had been living for one and a half year), I bawled my eyes out the entire way and for a whole day I was really really homesick?? (even though my old apartment wasn't my real home lol) so I really hope I don't have to move again, especially because I've been living here for two years now lol it'll be harder
It’s utterly time-consuming and I suppose pretty boring, but there’s definitely something enjoyable and cathartic about unloading and re-loading a bookshelf. Dunno what. Maybe the sound of a sliding book? The smell?
I still live with my parents so I love living vicariously through watching other people decorate their apartments lol
I feel this so much.
I’m so early even my phone was confused
I feel that my inability to unhaul books is solved by living vicariously through watching unhaul vids…
Same 😂😂😂
"I call this my painting shirt but in reality I don't paint" - a whole mood
The roommates pretty cool for letting her take the whole living room for her books again.

@@melanieventer3511 Alas, I had to. I was moving from a house to one room. This room is, basically, a library as it is. Painful though.
That is what I should have done, instead of being surrounded by bookcases and piles of books constantly worrying the floor will give way and I end up in the flat downstairs.
@@ba-gg6jo I am on the ground floor thankfully.

haha for now, figured I might need it for a video still although I completely agree, and thank you!
May I ask why you hated it ?😅 I personally really liked it even if I struggled a bit with the writing style at the beginning
Thank you for sharing these moments with us. Looks like your new place has some stellar windows and views? And that secret passage!
