In 1985, I was asked to arrange IF ONLY, a finalist of Likha: Awit ng Bata, for Ms. LEA SALONGA. I still vividly remember our recording session at Tasha Recording Studio owned by Senator Tito Sotto. Even at a very young age, her diction was already astounding, her voice crystal clear, her intonation flawless and her musicality exemplary!
I am a self-confessed big fan of Ms. Lea Salonga! It is my opinion that she deserves to be conferred a National Artist Award for Music.

I only found out about this song, Sept 4, 2024. Almost fory years when the song was composed. I saw the lyrics written on a piece of old faded brown paper left hidden in the inside back cover of a daily planner that is almost 30 years old. I did not know the tune and the singer but the words were simple but meaningful. So, I tried finding it on youtube and after many many tries I found out the Leah Salonga was the singer and the song was first performed in 1985. Someone writing this on a piece of paper probably the owner of the planner expressing the heart ache that she felt knowing that she will never see him again, to a place and time they shared together. To a memory that will remain a memory and nothing more.
I love this song and I love Lea Salonga. Thank you Maestro Danny Tan
IF ONLY, was composed by a 12 year old student from Phil. National High School for the Arts in Makiling.
I changed some of the chords to enhance the beautiful melody of the young songwriter, Dhora Pia Asido.

I do remember hearing this on the radio even up to the ‘90s, and in an episode of “Lovingly Yours, Helen” from the mid-‘80s na ni-replay sa cable years ago (if I remember right, one of the lead stars in that episode was a young Eula Valdes). Ngayon ko lang nalaman na it was no less than Lea Salonga who recorded this version. Simple, yet beautiful. Thank you for sharing this, Maestro Danny.

I don't remember anymore if I was there for the rehearsal and during the show, hehehe...
