    This has always been one of my favorite LZ songs. As others have said, it's a remake of an old delta blues song about the flood of 1927. They put such a remarkable spin on the old classic.

    Song is about the 1927 Great Flood. The tributaries of the Mississippi River overflowed the banks to the West
    in Oklahoma and Kansas and the east in Illinois and Kentucky causing a mass migration north, particularly to Chicago.

    No one's talking about that haunting, blaring, sustained harmonica by Robert, very under-rated. The whole song is just one, big sustained power blues bullet to the head, heart, and lungs. Epic .

    This is an amazing, emotional song from Led Zeppelin. You know there were people down in New Orleans blasting this shit through their speakers while Katrina was beating down on them.
    Right before their power went out...

    Thanks for pulling the Led out again! 🙌🏼💕. Love your reactions. One of the best rock-blues songs by Led and a masterful recreation from the old 1920’s country-folk bands Joe McCoy & The Memphis Mini.... Like how you brought up Katrina as this was written about the devastating 1920’s Great Mississippi floods that caused many thousands of hard working folks to lose their homes and livelihoods.... Reason the song brings up going to Chicago. During that time period, industrialization was already affecting crop workers and poor field workers were seeking a better living/safer environment to rebuild and work after the disaster struck. Keep ‘em coming for us. 🔥💎🔥💎🔥💎🔥💎🔥💎🔥

    Jimmy plays slide guitar in some sections of that song. This band does the blues like no other. If you haven't heard these songs yet, I would check out "Since I've Been Loving You" and "You Shook Me". These songs will blow your mind!

    Yes, the pocket is great, but right after it comes that nasty harp. Plant really blows that thing, especially at the beginning. I've never heard anyone play it like he does, the smoooooooth, smooooooth transitions into power hits. Amazing.

      Didn't mean to imply that I thought Zeps versions wasn't awesome - it is... Just a response to Tre's question about if Zep had been in the Katrina floods in New Orleans... (at the 1:45 mark or so)

    its tough to rank zeppelin songs but ten years gone has been favorite since I began listening.
    The blues tracks are what got me interested but its songs like ten yrs gone, the rain song, achillies, no quarter, going to cali, that's the way that convinced me zeppelin is the goat.
    Their diversity is untouchable.

  • @Samscoinsandheavymetal
    @Samscoinsandheavymetal 5 років тому +3

    I agree Tre. The transition is chilling - jimmy playing the tasty notes in open G on slide. He balanced the major and minor blues and incorporated so many grace notes, leading tones and chromatic runs which is why his playing is always so full and satisfying to listen too in my opinion anyway
    Track was slowed down which is why the drums have the “swooshie “ sound and everything blends so fluidly

    6:54 that was a mistake where Robert Plant said "goin" that Jimmy Page decided to keep in the song. He did that throughout this song and a lot of other songs throughout their career. He said that sometimes those mistakes fit in even though they should have been edited and showed the rawness of the band.

  • @mikecaetano

    I've always paid more attention to the guitar in that part you call 'the pocket' but this time I kept focus on the drums and they're tight there too. I suspect Zep kept the first time through the pocket short in order to make you want more and so they play through it twice the second time while Bonham lets loose. I get what you mean about Achilles Last Stand. That song comes across as if it was meant to be a piece of classical music. I still dig it just the same! [grin]
