Wow, what a throwback! I was like 14 years old when I released the FPS mod for Max Payne 1 back in 2013 (I think there was another version released even earlier). One of these days I should come back to it and fix some of the issues, it's pretty surprising how well the game plays in first person even with the janky state of the mod.

@@KYOTUA-cam It wasn't too hard, in fact I'd probably describe it as lazy even! lmao From what I remember, I basically just made copies of the script files in the game that control the camera, and changed them so they told the camera to move "zero" units away from Max instead of whatever distance from the player it was normally placed at, which effectively placed the camera inside his head. It doesn't actually attach the camera to his head though, which is why sometimes the camera can "escape" Max's head when you shootdodge. That's something I'd probably want to fix if I ever went back to it
I know the first one had photo textures, but I'm not sure if that's true for the second one - at least not for the character textures. Hard to know for sure on the environment textures.
@@Tylerson If 2 used those textures (which I don't think they did, but might have), they aren't used in ways that look nearly as "real" as 1. 2 looks glossy and "CG smooth" for lack of a better term, while 1 looks like photo textures, albeit applied to more limited geometries. Both look great, but they don't look great in the same ways in regards to the textures. Also, the photo textures were a huge part of the hype for 1, while not a part of the hype of 2 so far as I can recall.
Finally somebody admires that the first two games were made by Remedy in Finland. Nowadays everyone somehow claim, max payne 1, 2 and 3 were made by rockstar 🤦♂️

Back in the day Max Payne was published by 3D Realms and for me it was very close to Duke Nukem 3D - Max was also violent, happened in realistic looking areas and had a ton of interactivity - you could press things, touch things, break things - I would say that today many FPS/TPS titles don't have even half of its interactivity and attention to detail,
I always loved the muzzle flashes of the first two Max Payne games. 3 was amazing too, I just don’t have any memories seeing ads for it with Max shooting
Amazing as a bloke growing up when these games came out I new these were the kinda game I was lookin for but didn't know about at the time. I always loved the noir crime vibes dripping from this game the narration was spot on and really set the tone for the game to live up to, now seeing these mods I'm blowing away I mean they could be remade and these 1st person cameras could be implemented into the games, I remember remedy saying when they were making the game because of bullet time it was so hard to pull the mechanic off in game because at the push of a button to us it seems like the game is just slowing down but there was alot more trickery involved, I don't have a pc but what your showing is really good content especially when these games were a big part of gaming at the time and still are, I would love a remaster or a whole knew max game. It's crazy looking at older remedy games and seeing how they have always been like that: insane attetion to detail, even in places where no one would look. Max Payne has always been one of my fav games of all time, and this mod maybe a great way to revisit it this year! Really great and informative video, i like how you both showcased the mod and analized the game's gameplay in general. Hyped for more stuff like this!

It's strange to say, because in many ways they are two completely different games, but the only game that, in a certain sense, gave me back the atmosphere of the first *Max Payne* was *The Darkness* for PS3.
the only flaw with how the Beretta 92 FS works in the first game is how the casing flies to the left when in real life flies up, I know because I own a few myself
The casing is *ejected* up and to the right. But when he dives or moves to the right, the casing is obviously going to be on the left. That's how physics works. Also, in the first game that's not the model of a 92FS. You don't own any guns. Stop acting as if you know something.

Max Payne 2 had a glitch: Beretta had static slide. For some reason devs just forgot to add animation. That glitch made me to dive into MP2 modding to fix it
I remember playing the 1st Person mod back on the first Max Payne game; it was cool but I was bummed that you couldn't mix it with any other mods. Back then the game would only load one mod at a time lol
I did the same thing with mass effect legendary edition. Only during exploration though, combat is still the same. Love it though. Walking around the citadel in first person just hits a lil different.
That's true, I'm glad they didn't implement a detection meter but rather you'd have to discern they detected you from the body language and dialogue of the adversaries.
It still has the same issue Rockstar has with stealth though, an enemy can see you for a split second and be killed quietly before he even said anything but now the whole area knows.
@czarnakoza9697 it's not realistic. It's just not the focus of their game design. Stealth is just an afterthought and not implemented in a way that promotes fun gameplay. Realism does not necessarily equal fun.

My 2nd favorite series on my top 10 list right after Half-Life, I wish I could spawn npcs, that would have allowed me to create new fights. I did managed in a way to add a Vinnie ally in Part 3 chp7 by replacing him with Vlad, the mod is on moddb by the name "A Path Never Was". Still, wish I could spawn npcs, I am not good at map editing to use MaxED editor.
This is not a surprise as people don't want to play in 4:3 especially in first person mod when the game is designed for 3rd..... That would make the game nauseating. Lol duh

Although "Max Payne 3" was a great game, it still was a bad Max Payne game. Remedy's sense for atmosphere and humor made Max Payne great. I still enjoyed MP3.
Yeah...doesn't sound like you know what you're talking about. The few levels that are timed are easy to finish as long as you understand context clues, which is even easier to understand as you get older....for most.

If you play eockstar before aquiring max payne then after, its very obvious from npc dialogues to random shit working like sinks for no reason and the iconic and ballsy single dot for pinpoint sighting were all adopted by rockstar afterwards. They prolly wont admit it but they did riff alot of the stuff remedy did and does

The Max Payne games having photo textures have allowed the first and second Max Payne to really age like fine wine.
The baked lighting was quite good for the time as well.
I still play through these games every couple of years, still fun!
