  • Kyle is in Germany checking out the ID. GTI Concept that promises to come to market (not soon enough!). This electric VW GTI is based on the ID.2all platform and on the smallest MEB architecture. With a spicy FWD motor, limited slip diff, dynamic damper control, and more it should prove to be sporty to drive, too! We're so excited about this little hot electric hatch

    If the US does not get this, VW is crazy. This and the Ionic 5 N are what is needed to continue to make EV vehicles more mainstream. The ID.GTI could dominate the sporty EV market if they can get it here soon. It would most likely win on price.

      While I hear you, GTIs usually sell for a premium. I suspect this will be closer to Lyriq prices. I'd be amazed if it sells for less than 42k.
      The Volvo EX30 will deliver comparable acceleration (not sure about overall performance) for way less.
      However, it's just a beefy and sexy'fide ID2. And VW claim they've found the formula for cheap mass produced EVs with the 2. So I'm hoping I'm way off.
      I'm surprised you're not sticking around to see what Ultium Bolt brings to the table. Could be Equinox motor, bigger power output with Ultium battery 🤔

    • @prerunnerwannabe
      @prerunnerwannabe 11 місяців тому +1

      @@JDDevice You're probably right that it will be around $40k, though I'm hoping that it will start in the mid 30s since the Golf GTI starts at around $30k. We'll see, huh?
      As for the Ultium Bolt vs the ID.2 GTI, I will buy whichever one actually makes it to production and is available in NA. If VW doesn't want to play ball, I'll most likely get the Ultium Bolt.

    • @JDDevice
      @JDDevice 11 місяців тому

      30k for petrol version, but you have to add EV premium.
      The Pear from Fisker may also be another sleeper car. We know the intended pricing, which is going right after Bolt customers. Aesthetically and functionally, the Pear seems like the better buy, especially with 6 seat option on that Ocean width chassis. I'm not holding my breath on the GTI 2. Even if they do bring it, it'll be niche market priced, with zero EV incentives.

    As a lifetime VW and 4 time GTI owner (just bought a ‘23 40th anniversary edition) I can say that my initial thoughts are I really like the design. I’m not all in on electric vehicles as of yet. I do understand that is where things are going in the automotive industry and I think once they have better range and can be charged as fast as a gas powered car I would be more for it. But what I see here I do think looks great and if the GTI staying around means going electric I’m happy with what I see.

      Why? It's a moderately powered heavy FWD EV, in what way does that say driving excitement to you? It will be average at best, if that excites you.

    Great timing given the announcement of the death of the manual transmission after 2024 in these hot hatches. The DSG is a great transmission, but a spicy EV hatch is the future. Love my manual MK7.5 GTI. Looking forward to an EV version. Please bring stateside VW!

    Yes, VW, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring this to the U.S.!! Speaking as an original buyer/owner of an '84 Mk1 GTI (not to mention a '74 Dasher), and other generations since, I would most definitely by one. And about a dozen others in our extended family who would also! And without a doubt many of my friends too.

    This will not come to the USA until battery constraints are lifted. They would absolutely sell them in the Us if they had production capacity for them. I hope I’m wrong. Would love to see these going to the USA.

    Well, I'm excited -- which, I think, means it's the TRUE next generation of GTI! And it seems like every ID GTI will come much closer to the level of performance of the Golf R -- yet, more reason to be excited!!! And I agree -- 10 out of 10.

    Looks great -- bring it to the US!
    Context: In college, I owned a Mk. I GTI (American built, with the square headlights) in silver. It was a great car, though it had some minor reliability issues (the exhaust hangers were constantly breaking, and a lot of the body hardware bits and bobs had a tendency to fall off). I still remember that car fondly, and it undoubtedly set the course for my automotive tastes ever since. We now own a BMW i3 (as well as a 530e) -- electric is absolutely the way to go.
    This design harkens back to the first generations of GTIs and honors their style without falling prey to silly nostalgia. Lovely work.

    While the US is mostly SUV obsessed, those parking on city streets prefer a smaller vehicle like this and the id2. I moved into a city and traded my 2015 Jetta for a mk7.5 GTI, it's the nicest car I've ever owned. I'd love to see this continued in the US!

      Msn had an article where Schafer mentioned 30k+ euros to start target, production is slated for late 2026 and first deliveries in early 2027.
      Another channel autofuegel says sources have it around 220-240 miles of wltp range due to more power,the big wheels&aero drag.
      I'm with you on price. When it comes out it'll be 50% above the reg id.2. Gti model's are always expensive and always low volume.
      First year production will be low, lots of demand and dealers ripping people off for them ie standard operating car sales procedures. 😑

    • @sp6450
      @sp6450 9 місяців тому

      Its a concept. The real production vehicle will look significantly different, as in, it will be uglier as they have to meet various safety standards, road rules/policies in various countries and thus would have to change the design. If the car looks mostly the same, it would sell like hot cakes.

    Commenting - PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE BRING THIS TO THE USA! It's perhaps the coolest car I've ever seen. I love it. I love it. I love it. I will buy 2 if that's what it takes.
    Only feedback on the design is the rear diffuser - it's a bit chunky looking. Otherwise, just make sure to bring back actual knobs, buttons, etc. for the climate/info-tainment, and you're golden!
    Did I mention I will buy this car the second it lands on US shores?

    As someone who has owned 10+ VW/Audi products, including a 2012 Golf TDI, 2012 GTI, and 2016 GTI all purchased new (and have a B9 S4 as my current daily): PLEASE BRING THIS TO NORTH AMERICA! This is the car so many of us want vs. an SUV as our next EV. Smaller (great for the urban areas so many of us live in); still offers great utility; small enough to be fun as a daily driver.
