I nearly bought one of these second hand when I was a youngster, and thought it was wonderful. I ended up with a $300 Yamaha CS30 instead and don't regret that decision.
I'm not sure why, but of the big three Japanese Brands only Korg has shown any interest in returning to Analogue (Roland have used third parties to create some euro modules and the SE02, but those don't seem to have been very successful). I suspect they just don't have the capabilities to do this in a profitable manner. Keep in mind that Yamaha is a huge business that makes a mind-boggling array of diverse products, whereas Korg is focused on electronic music, and seems to be a more nimble and creative company in that area
History repeating itself. There is really many Synths that wasn't a success at the time they came out and now people is paying 10x and 20x what they cost back then. No matter what CS model you pick they have their charm, but listen to the Montage M. the ANX engine can recreate really many of these sounds. The CS40M is a really nice sounding Synth, but many of the old CS models i kinda rare to find in working conditions today
Everyone interested in this video knows the specifications of CS-40M, so it would be better if you would shut up and play the CS-40M so we can better understand the characteristics of the instrument.
The possibility to choose the LFO waveform for each VCO is an ingenious feature! And yes please do more of these sound-heavy synth presentations ♥
Dom gotta have the best job in the world
Love it. Keep these videos coming!
Had mine since 1998! Love it!
Loved this - always loved the style of the CS series, let alone the sound!
I like the cs15 and the 40m. Would love to add them to my studio. Thanks for the demo. Alex Ball has a great cs15 video.
They brought back the glissando a few years later on the CS01, the tiny analog synth they aimed at playing leads.
Beast from the past
C’mon Yamaha, do a synth thing…c’mon, anything. (Hell, I’d happily settle for a sequel or remake of an An1x virtual analog).

You guys should put the synth history videos in a playlist altogether 🤘
very cool demo with great ideas i can try on my modular
7:35 yes!
I bought my CS-20m for $30. That was back in 2006. Good times
I paid 33 times more for a 40m in 2020. No regrets 😎
CS70M only has one "sub" sine and can't do a monophonic Unison, but has more voices, (monophonic) aftertouch and an "ensemble" chorus
Génesis
Great sound!!!!
Yamaha.
Oh yezzzzzz more music for everybody plizzzzzz, no time for war disputes only paaaarty
Informative
Like humans the older keyboards are always best 😊
Sounds like my yamaha plg150-an that is in my s90

So maybe Yamaha is also going to sell real analog again... 😱😉👍

A lost synth. Kinda ignored when it was released.
