Passed my test today! Second attempt and i got 2 minors, your videos have been a wealth of information for me and im sure they contributed heavily to my passing, almost more so than my instructor :o
Thanks. I'l be making more next year and the video quality on my new system is much higher than this one was, both inside and outside the car. If there's anything people would like to see in future videos then let me know.
My test is in early feb, failed my first one for staying on the right lane for too long before moving over, Will be watching all your videos to get every tip I can get as you're a very good Instructor, Subbed!
what great weather for a test (I know this is done during the summer). I had my test today in quite harsh crosswinds and a lot of rain, managed to pass with 5 minors (to my surprise)
Wow, this is so much different than here in the US. At my DMV, the entire driving test is basically a 5 minute drive around the block, a backing and parking test, and a 50 question or so written test. I guess the idea is just to make sure that you have a general idea of how to drive, and to make sure there aren't any blatant safety violations you make.
Hey, here in England, we have to do a theory test before the practical, which comprises of questions about hazards and tests our general knowledge of the roads etc.
MaRiTa1986 I'll be doing a video on those in the future. It'll be a bit late to help you maybe but it's definitely something that many people have trouble with
Great videos. I was particularly interested in your other video where you say it's a myth that you get failed if you cross your hands over when turning the steering wheel. Also people tell me, if I ever learn to drive, pass my test in a manual. I had considered doing it in an automatic but people, even a driving instructor I spoke to, are adamant that I should pass in a manual, then buy myself an automatic. Again thanks.
You are more limited by passing in an automatic because you can only then drive automatics which are not popular in the UK. They're more expensive to buy, to run (they burn more fuel) and if you ever need to hire a van to move house then they will all be manual. Automatics are only really for people that either struggle with understanding the gears and clutch, have a disability that stops them from being able to change gear or people who travel so much that changing gear could cause an injury ie. sales reps that drive 2000 miles a week. Most of all though, learn and drive in what suits you best.
Thankyou for the quick and detailed reply have got my test on tuesday next week and finding your videos helpfull just got to battle my nerves one last question what are the most likely manouvers to get on your test im fine with all but just struggle a little on bay parking, mainly due to lack of practice doing that one thanks
hollie jessica This is a myth. You show you are using your mirrors by how you react. Examiners are aware of the old old advice of moving your head around to show you are looking. If you start moving your head without looking properly you will soon make a decision that shows you aren't looking properly. This is where advising people to move their heads leads.
+Joe Roberts on my lessons ive been taught mirror signal manoeuver, to look in the middle mirror when slowing down and entering the new road I have just turned into
+Joe Roberts i don't 100% agree with what you say. i have seen videos where they get a minor for not looking in the mirrors.. and no nothing came of it they didn't end up in danger. instructors do check you are looking in your mirrors. some may not check, but alot do. however if i was wearing the sunglasses i wouldn't move my head to make it obvious either, and if i wasn't wearing them.
+Salik Rafiq the standards in Canada and the US are not as high as the UK. So it's not just that it was bad snow in canada, it only lasts about 10mins all over the US aswell.
Drive as much as you can without speaking so that you get more used to being on your own (almost) and the way the test could feel (some examiners talk a lot!). If you have to think about it you're not ready, driving is a subconscious skill that you should do as easily as walking so don't go for a test until you reach that stage. If you're ready for it then you shouldn't find the test hard or get nervous. Another method I use a lot is to take my pupils on terrible routes through the city centre with very difficult situations to handle. Once they've done that the test seems easy and they're glad to be doing that instead of one of my evil routes.
When you were saying pull over and it doesn't matter about driveways, was that a little trick to see if she would stop in front of a driveway?? I would've ignored that and not stopped in front of a driveway. My test is this week and I've been watching this and noticing faults which is good I think. These videos are really helpful thank you :)
***** No, if they ask you to pull up in front of a driveway then you can. There are no tricks, I've had pupils be asked to pull up in some really bad places including in the bus stop at the mouth of a three lane roundabout. Why he did that I'll never know, haven't had it before or since but even then the pupil had to pull over.
It's a Ford Fiesta but the speedo is an extra you can add into any car. Search for He-Man speedo and you'll find it, they're about £99 and i have it fitted at the garage before delivery because they can run a power cable straight to it from under the dashboard. It shows how bad the fish-eye lens was on this old camera system because although the speedo looks half way up the windscreen in this video, it was actually displaying just above the windscreen wiper. That's how much my old camera distorted the image which is why the speed looks much quicker than it is at times!
This was my old system which was simply a £50 pocket camera stuck to the windscreen with a cheap mount, tape and elastic bands. It kept moving around so i got a much better system which is a lot easier to angle as you can see in my latest videos.
am having my driving test in 3 weeks and using my personal car, a ford mondeo 04 plate, does anyone knows if its compulsory for a driving test car to be fitted with brakes on the examiner side as mine hasnt gotten one. Also if anyone has ever taken his or her test in a personal car, which car was it
december akins You don't have to have dual controls but you must have one L plate visible to the front and one to the rear. The L plates must not be inside the window, they must be outside the car so they can be seen. You'll also need a rear view mirror stuck on the windscreen for the examiner. The car must have no faults (any warning lights on the dash and they won't do it) and the tyres especially will be checked to see they're in good condition. The main thing they will want proof of is that the car is insured for a test. A normal policy won't cover driving tests and you have to sign to say that the car is insured, if it isn't and you've said it is then you'll be facing huge fines and points on your licence. There's nothing wrong with using your own car so long as you satisfy all of the criteria above. The slight problem is that is puts examiners more on edge as they don't have dual controls but so long as you can drive well then it'll make no difference.
Got mine Friday as well down Sutton Coldfield. My driving instructors is on point but I like this guy also got some interesting stories haha. Thanks for these vids there very helpful.
@1:25 lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, omg!! this guy got me right here, dat was my first minus, got freaking nervous and could not answer the ABS QUESTION,ridiculous.
It depends on the examiner. Some say very little, some point out every road. I've even had times they have helped pupils to finish off parking etc. by telling them exactly how to steer and how close they are. Some just help more than others so in my future mock tests I'll be showing you the different styles of examiner.
***** I know from speaking to ambulance and police drivers that one of the most annoying things drivers do is stop dead whenever they hear a siren. Most people panic, freeze and end up either blocking the road, causing more accidents or getting in the way of the vehicle they're trying to help. A good example is when people stop on bends forcing the emergency vehicle to go round a blind bend on the wrong side of the road.
***** In all the tests I've ever done this is the one thing I've never had come up. I've often wondered how far the examiner would go in letting a pupil block the road or get it wrong when it comes to an emergency vehicle appearing. I think they would usually step in and help out but they don't have to.
Passed my test today! Second attempt and i got 2 minors, your videos have been a wealth of information for me and im sure they contributed heavily to my passing, almost more so than my instructor :o
I learnt loads from this. Thank you for your time & effort!
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for teaching me that potato beats rock.
hahaha :D
Got my test on the 3/12/14 going to binge watch your videos because they've already helped so much thank you
How did it go ?
Passed 1st time couldn't believe it
Thank you, that's a great compliment. We'd done roughly 30 hours of training i think. More videos are coming soon!
This was an excellent video, great quality, there's so much to be learnt from these - keep em coming!
Thanks. I'l be making more next year and the video quality on my new system is much higher than this one was, both inside and outside the car. If there's anything people would like to see in future videos then let me know.
Thank you for that advice think it's extra pressure which is making me nervous because both my brother and sister passed first time
My test is tomorrow, so nervous! I think ill vomit on the examiner tomorrow!
Hah no nearly though! I gave him a hug after he said i passed :)
gg
I'm starting to learn to drive in just over a week. Your videos are very good!
My test is in early feb, failed my first one for staying on the right lane for too long before moving over, Will be watching all your videos to get every tip I can get as you're a very good Instructor, Subbed!
Thanks. Yes, you have to get out of that right lane as soon as you can.
Passed this time around, keep up with the videos! thanks
Failed my test for exactly the same thing. Got my test again on Monday. I hope I pass this time.
good luck b
I found this very helpful- I have my test soon!!. But at the start of the test, was she not going too fast over the speed humps??
what great weather for a test (I know this is done during the summer). I had my test today in quite harsh crosswinds and a lot of rain, managed to pass with 5 minors (to my surprise)

Parallel park:
Didn't check blind spots
Reversing didn't look behind her at all the entire time she was going back
I have my test on the 6th October and the spiral roundabouts are my weakness. *Fingers crossed* lol.
MaRiTa1986 I'll be doing a video on those in the future. It'll be a bit late to help you maybe but it's definitely something that many people have trouble with

Thats where I am having mine. Omg so nervous
This place is a maze, all the houses look just the same! :P And, a helpful video as always.

Before she indicates she doesn't look in her mirrors!
How do you know, She's wearing sunglasses.
You're supposed to move your head and make it obvious so the examiner can see you're doing it.
hollie jessica This is a myth. You show you are using your mirrors by how you react. Examiners are aware of the old old advice of moving your head around to show you are looking. I enjoyed watching your video i have a mock test tomorrow!! quite nervous any tips or hints? keep the videos coming :)
Wow. are tests always this long? I took one in Canada which was only 10 minutes..mind you it was winter and there was ice on the road!
Tests in the UK are around 40-50 minutes long, dependent on traffic and other factors.
+Salik Rafiq the standards in Canada and the US are not as high as the UK. So it's not just that it was bad snow in canada, it only lasts about 10mins all over the US aswell.
Good, there are more coming soon!
I have my driving test coming up and I suffer from really bad nerves under pressure and tend to overthink what would be your best advice ?
Drive as much as you can without speaking so that you get more used to being on your own (almost) and the way the test could feel (some examiners talk a lot!). If you have to think about it you're not ready, driving is a subconscious skill that you should do as easily as walking so don't go for a test until you reach that stage. At 16:00, when entering the minor road right after the tunnel, should we give way to that blue golf??
Either can give way, so long as you don't force them to stop quickly and they choose to give way then what happened here is fine.
Just wondering what does the indepent driving part of your test actually test for can you fail on forgetting the route
It tests your ability to drive by yourself, rather than your ability to follow instructions.
soooo nervous my test 7th of october. i pray i dont make silly mistakes. cant afford a second test.
Do you have to indicate when overtaking a cyclist?
And do you have to check your centre mirror before moving off from traffic lights
When you were saying pull over and it doesn't matter about driveways, was that a little trick to see if she would stop in front of a driveway?? I would've ignored that and not stopped in front of a driveway. My test is this week and I've been watching this and noticing faults which is good I think. ah okay then :)
She's a fast driver.
My instructors told me never to indicate when setting off just wondering if I'd get marked down on the exam for indicating or not indicating?
Very helpful love the videos
What car is this? I find it very helpful how the speed is displayed on the windscreen.
It's a Ford Fiesta but the speedo is an extra you can add into any car. Search for He-Man speedo and you'll find it, they're about £99 and i have it fitted at the garage before delivery because they can run a power cable straight to it from under the dashboard.

Thanks.
Has she passed since this?
Very helpful , thank you very much.
she did well In my opinion
Very clear video i enjoyed watching it. Lol she's in a hurry
can I ask, why is the camera more focused on you and not the driver?
This was my old system which was simply a £50 pocket camera stuck to the windscreen with a cheap mount, tape and elastic bands. It kept moving around so i got a much better system which is a lot easier to angle as you can see in my latest videos.

1stdrive thanks i passed my test today using my own car, i got a one day learner insurance to cover me for the test.
Signal Went Off At Yadley Wood Area Shouldn't She Av Put It Back On.? Great Job Btw Got My Test Friday So Gettin All Info Possible
On the roundabout? I can't remember the whole video now but yes they should go back on if it's safe to do so.
Got mine Friday as well down Sutton Coldfield. My driving instructors is on point but I like this guy also got some interesting stories haha. Thanks for these vids there very helpful.
You are a star paul
At 12:52 didn't she cut across the wrong lane? Surely an instant fail?
That's why she didn't pass. It's a common thing at this junction which often confuses people because it's badly signed compared to others in the area.
It does look very confusing, I didn't hear the bit at the end, my internet cut out. Love your videos though!
I guess it's just common sense to drive on the left
@1:25 lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, omg!! this guy got me right here, dat was my first minus, got freaking nervous and could not answer the ABS QUESTION,ridiculous.
hey paul the real examiner wouldn't help you see if anything was coming surely it's up to the candidate to make that call ? :)

Thankyou :) Same to you, Dave !!
