Yaad Piya Ki, Siya Sang Jhoole, Deep Jalao - Diwali 2020 - Chinmaya Boston - ft. Anuradha Palakurthi

On the occasion of Chinmaya Mission Boston's Annual Deepavali Fundraiser, Nov 20, 2020. Special Guest of honor: Mrs. Sudha Murthy of Infosys Foundation.
While different mythological stories are attached to Diwali, growing up in Delhi it was the return of Rama and Sita to Ayodhya. And my favorite festival!
The three songs cover the three steps of the journey from darkness to light from Sita Mayya’s perspective: -
- The Viraha darkness phase - I redesigned an old bandish that you may recognize
- The Milan phase of emergent light - I recrafted from an old bandish, again
- The third step, celebration, is particularly special for me. The lyrics were specially written and song uniquely composed for this event by my Guru, Vidushi Smt. Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar, to whom I owe every musical pursuit.
I have the following people to thank:
1. Sunayana Kachroo, our Boston poet, for the poignant Hindi prose within the first two songs
2. My Mumbai music team of Kamlesh Bhadkamkar, Shruti Bhave, Nilesh Parab, Vinayak Netke, Varad Kathapurkar and Vijay Dayal. They worked 24x7 for many days to finish this product - and I’d be nowhere without their professionalism and friendship
3. My recording engineer that cannot be named, my daughter Arya for the camera work at home. Nikhil Joshi from Mumbai did all the video work. So glad to have him with us.
