I agree with Mark on most of the points he made, but...that scene with the lion hunting on Fifth Avenue (or whatever street it was) was beautifully done. And yes, i love it when they bicker jovially - ahh bliss. :)
@bish1313 Cool man after reading the novel you're right I think. He's the lone monster killing people in the middle of the day instead of night. He's the legend...I think they totally ignored that for some reason. Gotta say the fresh prince was good in it though.
Actually Jean Luc Godard was going to adapt the book and abandoned the project but used some elements in his film Alphaville. What would a Godard zombie be like I wonder.
To follow up what Dr K said about the zombies, the fact they're heavilly CGI' is a bit of a problem too, they lack the weight of the real thing. I thought it was a fairly solid film. Was quite good up until the Woman and kid showed up where it trails off.
The film was quite good, don't know the book to compare it. What I thought really let it down was the bad CGI of the zombie like people which looked out of a video game and the lions which looked almost like cuddly toys. These things stood out a mile to me.
The film’s ending & lack of storytelling maybe disappointing & unfocused, however the film’s well acted, well casted, stylish & enjoyable. (71%) (3.5/5 stars) (positive)
Good sir, the year is 2023 and I Am Legend is still culturally releveant. War of the Worlds was enjoyable but forgettable. I am Legend is maybe the greatest post apocalyptic movie ever made. And I say that as a fan of this sub genre.
The ending to this film is so frustrating. Instead of the amazing reversal which we get at the end of Richard Matheson's novel (which essentially explains the title), there is this sycophantic pandering to Will Smith's star image, painting him as this Messiah figure which is not what the original story was all about. Very annoying
Fucking atrocious film, great source material, suppose it was too much to ask that they stuck to it. Kills me how much they butchered it, best thing about it was Mike Pattons creature sound.
You can argue about the relevance of critics, but you can't deny that Kermode is a very interesting and entertaining reviewer.

They are a beautiful couple.
Great soundtrack.
Brilliant.
cute ending
They did originally shoot that ending, but the test audiences didn't like that ending. So they reshot it. Another example of Hollywood pandering.
This film completely misses the point of the novel. It's supposed to be about vampires, not zombie-like things.
I and I am Legend
Have you seen the alternate ending? While it isn't exactly like the books ending I feel it is much better.
The book is much better (as is to be expected) and has a vastly better ending imo. One which actually explains the title 'I Am Legend'.

Kermode = Legend
Mayo = The owner of the video shap that Will Smith goes to all the time.....
Will Smith IS:
IAN LEGEND
The book is much better (as is to be expected) and has a vastly better ending imo. One which properly explains the title 'I Am Legend'.

@@andysutcliffe7438 nah the lions actually looked PRETTY great in the film!
Nah

A convenient ending is called a deus ex machina. Like lord of the rings, the chrysalids
Nope. Deus ex machina is an example of a convenient ending (convenient for the writer) but there are other convenient endings.
I Am Ego!!!
war of the worlds was fucking atrocious!

Worse things about I Am Legend - CGI monsters, ending that misses the point,
(I've read the novel)
Terrible CGI for even those times. The lions look like cuddly toys and the zombie people look straight out of a video game.
You said 'Merry Christmas' on broadcast government-sponsored radio. *WOT??* Unheard of in the U.S. nowadays.
No it's not you utter bellend
This movie trashed Matheson's masterpiece of a novel.
