The Demons in Frieren are honestly refreshingly "alien". Its like the story of the Scorpion and the Frog Even when the two come to an agreement that is mutually beneficial, the Scorpion still stings the Frog, ensuring their mutual destruction, because it is simply in its nature and giving it a chance ,while noble, was still foolish of the Frog. Long story short, the people who overanalyse the Demons in Frieren, looking for humanity that simply isn't there BY THEIR OWN ADMITTION in the story, are EXACTLY the type to fall for their ruse and they don't want to admit it.
Frieren: * shows various examples of why trusting demons is a bad idea and demons being indeed evil and emotionless * The dude who made the video: yeah, let me ignore that
This couldn't be more correct that's why when I see things don't have opinion for I don't say anything I don't even like or dislike the video cuz people will always fish for something wrong in the majority of everything you say so it's best not to say anything about certain things if you don't have too💯😮💨0:58
SCP Lore is lame. I appreciate the thought experiment ones but after watching more and more videos it got super stupid. I think they got irritating when I'd realize their containment measures were far more complicated than they needed to be if you put a little thought into it.
Well, It's an open story community, so there's bound to appear bad stories. And to be fair, a LOT of those SCP's are actually dangerous enough, and specific enough in their inner working, enough to need a complex way of keeping It down. Of course, not all of them are well written, but a good amount of them are.
SCP Is well past its shelf life, and I could go on for way too long about why I think that despite being a regular participator in the SCP world, but nobody really needs to hear all that. I like the idea, I like the universe, it's just one of those things where when there's 8000+ scp's like there are now, and 99.9% of them past the first few hundred don't even have any associated tales.... Write deep, not wide. You're asking the reader to basically re-invest from the start for every one of those SCP's, when you could have a couple dozen SCP's with dozens of tales and established characters. Everyone hated the author avatars for some reason but they were literally the main point of interest for me in Tales. I dunno. Wasted potential IMO. SCP is still a household name but it could have been a legitimate huge multimedia series by now. (I mean, it still is, but even bigger. I'm high I don't got descriptive skills)
Nah the problem with the video is that its criticisms are tainted with ideas not of the world of frieren. Its essentially just saying "The dehumanization of intelligent creatures makes me uncomfortable so frieren is wrong" when all evidence in the world shows demons are incapable of empathy or malice and are the natural predators of humans. It is because that is what they are Frieren's struggles with her own lack of humanity is highlighted because she can understand and to some degree relate to demons while being fully knowledgable about what makes demons fundamentally different and evil
The problem isn't criticism, the problem is that the criticism directly ignores everything the show explained, the show explained very clearly and showed many examples of demons being literally evil, not understanding human emotions and using language as a means to deceive humans, and bro somehow still tried to defend demons saying they actually do have emotions and all the stuff that was proven wrong in the show
Near the end of his vid, he basically took scenes from the manga, that is currently not covered by the anime, out of context to prove his point. One of his points, if I remember correctly, is that demons can be good because they can express happiness about something. One example he used is about a demon kid exclaiming to achieve something and then immediately gets cut in half by a mage. Which he frames as if it was cruel to the demon kid. However he purposely cut out why the demon kid was happy at that scene. It was happy because the demon kid thought it just tricked & killed that same mage, who was fighting someone else, it pretended to be a human child so the mage tried to protect it. Then the demon kid stabbed him and joyfully exclaimed. Look, I can respect having an opinion on IPs/stories that I don't really agree with. As rational human beings we can always agree to disagree and be honest and respectful with each other. But if someone employs trickery or lies for their argument. I don't really have any sympathy for them getting called out, or the hate they get from their own actions.
It's a pretty abysmal video tbh. It's whole thesis relies solely on the fact that the demons are intelligent, and ignores what they are actually described to be. They're the natural predators of humanity and it's related species. The argument he makes when applied to other species quickly breaks down. Wolves are intelligent, so should deer not even attempt to defend themselves? Or is it wrong that crows attack owls when baby crows are often eaten by owls? The argument Lextorias presents shows a deep misunderstanding of both the show and of the nature of predatory species. The intelligence and emotional capacity of the predatory species is ultimately irrelevant to the prey. Just like the intelligence and emotional capacity of the prey is irrelevant to most predators. Given the context of the show Lextorias essentially fell for the demons hunting strategy. Instead of finding them slightly unsettling, he found them convincing and even appeared to project his own sense of morality on them. Which is specifically what shows his misunderstanding.

@guillehdz well, not emotionless, just lacking empathy or malice, which is preeetty horrifying.
I don’t understand how people think that demons in frieren should be given a chance, and calling Frieren racist for killing them on site.
People making a joke out of it is fine. Legitimately believing it so is crazy.
it's probably because, iirc, jelloapocalypse's reputation already had a major hit?
Isn't that the dude that did the fan service video?

I thought it was a good video. I think most people disliked it because it criticized a show they like.

Well you are wrong but ok
