    The Xbox Series S has always been tiny and mighty, yet it exists in the shadow of Microsoft's preferred, fridge-shaped, Series X. Now this game console has a trick up its sleeve. It's called the xScreen, an attachable gaming display, that makes the console much more mobile. But is this monitor worth your money?

    Its a cool idea that reminds me of the screen for the PSone but realistically look for a deal on a portable display intended for a laptop and you can get better specs for less money, and you just have to deal with it being a 2 piece unit

      Agreed. That screen is absolute garbage. You can get a portable 15 inch oled screen for the same price. You'll be packing everything into a box with the power cable and controllers anyways, so having the screen attached doesn't really suddenly make an xbox any more portable anyways.

    This reminds me of the older console portable hacks that were all over the place in the late 2000s.
    They could go even further with portability if they offered a battery solution, though some modifications would be required. The Xbox on runs on 12vdc after the AC stepdown.

      honestly by the title I thought they were going to review a Ben Heck custom job or something lol

    • @razerow3391
      @razerow3391 2 роки тому

      You mean like Ben Heck.
      Yeah and also they cost serious money and required sometimes that you literally cut the mainboard in some instances.
      Ben Heck would be the first to say this is something to be proud of. He has a whole career behind him, literally. He is now retired technically! And this company, that is VERY small, has done well to make something that can be mass produced. What Ben Heck mostly did was modding. This isn't a mod.. It's a peripheral. So it is actually a little more than the standard "ben heck mod" though Ben has done stuff like this as well.
      The video is being a little harsh. But the price you pay for not jumping through the weird hoops LTT put on companies when deciding who to shill. They must have only sent one review unit... Silly company. You should know you have to send like 3-5 otherwise LTT bitch. And if you dare make them buy their own because you, and I quote "want to supply customers before reviewers" then expect a review video where they are salty about the fact. LOL.
      I think that's why they don't mention Element 13 and Ben Heck... They are scared people will realise LTT is entertainment and in no way shape or form informative or educational. Like I wouldn't trust any review from them. I mean they used to be original but recently... Is there any UA-camr they wont steal ideas from? Like Der8auer?
      But yeah to me this is quite the neat little design for families and people that perhaps use caravans or RVs a lot. Something with a leisure battery and plugs. Hell even if you just spend a lot of time in hotels.
      Can also see it being something of use in Children's hospitals perhaps for kids on chemo. I know someone that got into gaming and comics because of being in hospital so much. They got a DS and a PSP and loads of comics over the years they were in and out.
      It's so easy to dismiss a product based on your narrow view. It's like phones with huge buttons... To a normal person it does look silly but for someone with degenerative eyesight or poor eyesight it isn't... It's vital! Some products aren't aimed at people that watch LTT or the guys at LTT. This being the prime example. It's not for rich dads like Linus who can just buy his kids a steam deck each for when on holiday... Though I doubt he owns an RV. And none of them are the target user. Kinda like how they don't review Gillette Venus razors because they are aimed at women and all of them are men cause they only employ women in historically "female orientated" jobs and pretend that isn't blatant sexism lol.

    1st of all, thx a lot for the great content you guys and girls put out and i personaly love Riley presenting, thought I would point a slight minus on some videos... you might have a sound issue with your sets, and sometime like this video, i cannot unhear it once my ear did catch it. I would guess some resonating frequencies in the spaces you record... but i might be wrong on the exact issue... maybe a quick equalizer on the mic reducing the really bothering frequencies could help in post ? or an investement in acoustics solutions... anyway, always a pleasure to watch 😁

    Honestly, despite it's flaws (and me being a PC gamer through and through), I feel like this has a lot of potential and that they get to make a second version with some suggested improvements.
    Maybe it's possible to share / pass through some of the Xbox Series S's power so they can have more power to the screen and speakers.
    On top of that improve the build quality, on-screen menu, and maybe release 3D print files of the feet?

    • @gorjy9610
      @gorjy9610 2 роки тому +1

      they just need to use dedicated PSU. Using power from unit is nice but it's not like xbox itself running from a battery and you need to avoid cables at all cost. Obviously this force them into compromises one can hardly accept at price they ask for the screen.

    • @vullord666
      @vullord666 2 роки тому

      It'd be interesting if this prompts Microsoft to make an official version or even just open up settings so you can play with how power is sent (this isn't the only portable screen you can give power to).
      I still say Microsoft should make their own version of the Steam Deck. Maybe if game pass goes to steam and does well that could pave the way. The Series S proves they can provide beastly power to a small form factor and they've had the best fans since the One X. Plus with Game Pass and Cloud Gaming (not just streaming, but introducing a larger program that incorporates Microsoft Flight Simulator's strategy which is to download some data and pull the rest from the cloud during play to create the beat experience) and Remote Play they're in the best position to sell portable console gaming (of course they'd need to be the first to work with cellular companies to make a 5G enabled device).

    • @pearce05

      @@gorjy9610 They don't even need that. Just add a male connector that plugs into the xbox, then a female connector for the xbox'x power supply to plug into, and split the power off to a simple voltage converter to power the display. • @gorjy9610
      @gorjy9610 2 роки тому

      @@pearce05 it's little more than $1 when you make product for western market but I agree that they have enough in their budget for it.
      But I don't believe that any company would go with solution that involve end user tinkering around high voltage connection. Even if that mean on plug more wasted it would give them security and ability to keep same form factor (avoiding dealing with additional heat etc).
      Most crowd founded items never arrive to customers so I guess fact that they deliver anything is good but this also prove rule n02; if you get it in the end it will be constructed like "as seen on TV" product.

Maybe not that useful for general day-to-day use, but if you were going somewhere for a day or a couple of days and didn't know if you'd have access to a TV, you could just bring the power cable and be all set.

    I have an Xbox one which I bought in Hong Kong, when I moved from HK to the US I had to get a step up converter to use it as the US plugs use 110v while the HK Xbox was designed for 220v. When my parents and I went for a trip somewhere I decided to bring my Xbox and had to bring the converter, the cables and my controller+it’s case which took up half the suitcase(the hotel we went to had a TV). I could see the usefulness in this as I would be able to game without having to lug a shit ton of stuff and worry about it breaking but at the same time it’s not really at the level of portable gaming a switch has as it doesn’t run on batteries or seem good for local multiplayer as that would be the only reason I could see bringing my console with me anywhere

    "the volume is not evenly stepped"
    From the way you described it the problem is that it IS evenly stepped, if each step in volume is even then increasing from 1 to 2 is doubling the volume but increasing from 99 to 100 is roughly 1%. What you actually want is the exact opposite and for it to scale as the volume increases, I'm not saying what you want isn't the better way of handling it but it feels like you used the wrong words to describe it (unless 'evenly stepped volume' is a term in the industry then you can just ignore this comment).

      True, those portable displays are larger, sleeker, have better performance, and better build quality, all while being cheaper. While I appreciate the negatives being pointed out, I do think the positives outweigh them easily.
    Using a USB to power everything is pretty slick. It's neat and tidy and worth losing a couple of ports while in use.
    And when you are done using it portably, remove the xscreen and hook it back to the TV.
    Also why would you leave the xscreen on and hook it up to the TV? That's not what it's for...
    Build quality could be better but I don't abuse my tech

    • @kaldo_kaldo
      @kaldo_kaldo 2 роки тому +3

      I wholly disagree. It would be trivial to have a passthrough for the other ports and at $250 they have the budget. You would leave it on so you could easily take it with you. If you're only using it on the go it's not an issue but if you're constantly swapping between TV and xscreen it's tedious to have to disconnect such a flimsy unit that's liable to break in the process.

    • @incendiary6243
      @incendiary6243 2 роки тому +3

      You leave the screen on and hook it up to a tv because sometimes you're on the go, and other times you're at home. It would be more convenient if you didnt need to constantly unplug and replug everything.
      Also, its *really* expensive for what it is, which to me is the bigger issue, since I dont think itd be possible to keep it folded while in use on a tv because of heat issues

    • @vullord666
      @vullord666 2 роки тому +2

      As far as the last point, you'd want a device like this to be "plug and play". Actually that's what the series S is right now. Its extremely easy to hook up and take down and light/small enough that it fits in your hand or any regular sized bag (and you literally only need 2 cords). Attaching and detaching an additional device EVERY time you want to go portable hurts the intent of that form factor. Think of the switch where you just pick it up off the dock and that's it (after initial setup). The console clearly wasn't built with a screen in mind and this is certainly a fine portable hack, but its a valid concern especially when you're telling someone to buy a product over $100.
