After a CT scan two years ago I received a call I guess nobody wants. The good news was no cancer. The bad news was that the doctor said I have “severe emphysema”. It was a shock to me as I am an avid skier and outdoorsman. I’m afraid I reacted very badly and went into a pretty severe depression for about three months. I couldn’t sleep. Or make future plans. I contemplated how I would go about suicide when the time came. I made my wife a wreck too. But when I didn’t die, I started looking around on youtube and found your channel. And that helped immensely. I got a pulmonary function test that showed “moderate” instead of “severe”. And I went 300 meters on the 6 minute walk test without oxygen desaturation. I counted my blessings that I quit smoking twenty years ago. I discovered one of my good ski friends was 80 and had had emphysema for over 20 years. And finally I could imagine the possibility of living another couple of decades. I am just starting my third downhill ski season since my diagnosis and in the two years since I think my fitness level has improved instead of getting worse. I do work at it and life is very good again. Many thanks for all of your help and positive influence. I am most grateful! Your friend in Montana, USA.
I take medication for depression and anxiety. I know when I feel anxious about being out of breath, my throat gets so dry that it makes breathing worse. My nebulizer does this. I already beat Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in my past. Back in 2007.
When I got diagnosed I was terrified, I thought I was going to die very soon. 10 years on im still here annoying everyone lo,
