      In the world of One Piece, the concept of the "Twelve Supreme Grade Swords" refers to a set of exceptionally high-quality blades, each possessing unique characteristics and legendary status. Additionally, the ones with a black or dark blade are even stronger. And not all are swords, at the end, there are different kind of blades.
      Yoru, is considered the most powerful black blade sword in the world and is owned by Dracule Mihawk, the greatest swordsman in the world.
      Zoro's Wado Ichimonji is a white-hilted sword with a circular handguard. The name "Wado Ichimonji" translates to "Straight Road of Harmony." And Zoro will get more powerful and unique swords later....

    It wasn't touched on in the LA, but the reason is so devastated and disappointed in himself (and expects luffy to be as well) is because before this moment, he had gotten the idea that he was at or at least near the peak. He's head and shoulders above every swordsman in the East Blue and he had no idea how astronomical the gap between East blue fighters and those from the grandline is.
    This defeat feels like a MAJOR set back because he thought he was at least 99% done, but Mihawk showed him he's barely past 1%

    • @gamingparadise3390
      @gamingparadise3390 Рік тому +90

      yeah I think this hits in the anime more and is better fleshed out because zoro is soo cocky and overconfident and beats up everyone he comes across with ease so when he fights mihawk he seriously belives he can beat him and then it absolutely crushes him and his confidence is shattered when he loses and not just loses he gets outplayed

    • @valeriaaraujo9962
      @valeriaaraujo9962 Рік тому +78

    • @kk_romeow
      @kk_romeow Рік тому +47

      @Naija_Ninja Рік тому +34

      @@kk_romeow
      Yes, the LA showed how infamous he is, but it didn't touch on how confident he is that he was strong enough.
      In the manga, he had this grin on his face as if locating Mihawk was the actual challenge and having found him, his win was basically guaranteed. There were also lines like "no way the gap could possibly be this much" when Mihawk started flexing and Mihawk outright telling him the East Blue was the weakest sea and his reputation here means Jack shit. "Frog in the well" in the manga doesn't refer to him croaking (being aggressive and loud) like in the LA, it's literally Mihawk telling him he has no idea how incredibly small his pov is compared to reality.
      Basically the LA did well to show Zoro's reputation, but it didn't make it as clear how much of a reality check and major setback (from his pov) this was for Zoro. Which to be clear, isn't really a criticism, it's just me noticing the differences

    • @kagato23
      @kagato23 Рік тому +11

      @@Naija_Ninjait is worth adding though that in both there was no self-deception. There was definitely “no way the gap is this wide” but as he came to realize it was, there was never any “this must be a trick” or such. He was losing because the other guy was much better then him. He obviously hated that but he never flinched from it.

Applying Haki to those strikes (Zoro's Trichiliocosm in Dressrosa) just empowers them by orders of magnitude (Mihawk bifurcating a massive flash-frozen Tsunami in Marineford).

    "What did we miss?"
    Don Krieg, the guy in golden armor that Mihawk killed early on in the episode was actually the main bad guy of this part of the story in the original. After Sanji gave the one pirate food he came back with Don Krieg who is his captain and tried to get him fed too. Sanji ofc does so and after regaining his strength Krieg takes the restaurant hostage ensuing a fight with the Strawhats and Sanji. In the midst of their fight Mihawk then arrives and slashes their ship. They encountered him on the grandline and he was the reason why they lost the 5000 men and pirate armada, he chased them all the way to baratie for his own amusement which is when Zoro switches target to fighting Mihawk. Garp didn't have any interaction with Mihawk at this point in the original. Don Krieg mostly used weapons and cheap tricks like poison gas, hostages or holding out a blanket covered in spikes to stop Luffy from punching him, which it didnt cause he just punched through the spikes. It was the first time that really showed how Luffy was not afraid of getting seriously hurt to do the right thing.Sanji fights one of Kriegs guys and before he loses Gin (the guy Sanji gave food to in this episode) saves him which makes Don Krieg call him a traitor. Gin then insists of having to be the one to kill Sanji because of the hospitality he gave him and holds him down. Krieg then shoot a poisonous gas projectile at them and orders Gin to die with Sanji and the people of the restaurant. They manage to steal gas masks of the Krieg pirates and survive but Gin refuses to put it on cause of the order. They manage to save him as Luffy beats Don Krieg and Gin takes Don Krieg and leaves, thanking Sanji for the meal and being nice to him and apologizes for how things had to go between them.
    While this is basically an entire chapter theyve cut it was probably the best thing to cut in the entire show. Like if you have to cut something this was the place to start, cause it was the least necessary to the actual character and story progression.

    I genuinely love how you can see Zoro's stock rising in Mihawk's eyes. I imagine he's had young arrogant kids challenge him all the time so he just saw Zoro as the same. He was shocked that Zoro never once faltered and kept going, he saw how much conviction and heart Zoro has. He marked him as just another punk but he was dead wrong. Zoro refusing to run and taking the scar sealed Mihawk's respect. If Zoro has that much heart and determination at that young age, he could easily become Mihawk's biggest challenge down the line and he wants to see that happen.

    Oak is right when he says there is something special about Mihawk’s sword: it’s one of the best crafted swords in this world. That’s why it had a black blade rather than a traditional silvery colored metal, which is explained much, much further down in the story. I've been programmed to believe the hero was always going to win. This show has me questioning everything. Even in the first scenes of Gold Roger up on the execution platform, I'd grown up with movies, where at the last second the rope been cut and they jump down from the platform and ride away. Not in the ONE PIECE. People die. People in uniforms that are suppose to help people, don't always help and aren't always the good guys. It really makes you question everything you've been taught. To see Zoro laying there, bleeding is one more blow for thinking that the good guys always win.

    Some Fun Tiny Details in this episode:
    - The move that Luffy used to deflect cannon ball to Garp's ship is called "Gum Gum Balloon", In manga and anime he first used this move earlier than Live Action for the same purpose (deflecting cannon ball.)
    - The fish Sanji used to make his dish is Blue-Finned Elephant Tuna. This fish was the hint that the all blue might be real bc it's the fish from South Blue and if you guys remember the layout of One Piece world, South Blue and East Blue are separated by Grand line, which make it impossible to catch in East Blue.
    - The menu and ingredients pictures on the wall of this restaurant are either ingredients that Sanji and the crew will find later on or ingredients from the manga spin-off that Sanji is the main character called "Shokugeki no Sanji"
    - The dish Sanji made the hungry guy is corn beef fried rice, which is the menu you can find the recipe in Cook Book named "One Piece Pirate Recipes by Sanji"

    I am not sure about this, but I take Zoro's attitude of, "Mihawk is here. So I need to fight him right now." Is because of how sudden his friend died.
    I take it as he thinks, "If death can just happen at any time and be so innocuous, then I need to do this now. Because who knows what accident or whatever can happen to me or even Mihawk tomorrow."

    Btw Don Krieg is the Baratie boss fight in the manga and the guy Sanji fed was one of his men, Gin (who was actually considered a demon by his fellow crewmates). Honestly disappointed they cut that part out, cause Sanji and Gin interactions are one of my favorite things in the manga...Sanji fed Gin even after he saw him shooting at a marine cause he feeds everyone who's starving, no matter who they are (he would totally beat their ass later though lol).

    So one thing they didn't mention and that this episode does a nice job of, the East Blue is considered the weakest Sea. The Grand Line is deadly intense and all the boss players are over there, Mihawk is an example of that. Garp is also like the most bada$$ Marine. So yes he has a hell of an arm.
    Edit: They do not have time for filler. There are over 1000 episodes they gotta cram in.

    I loved how they manage to show just how insanely powerful Mihawk is compared to everyone else around him. Never giving Zoro even a fraction of a second worth of hope that he could do anything against him. Zoro has shown to be a pretty decent fighter when he fought against number seven, the maid and the butler. It wasn't a complete one sided domination, but it was clear Zoro held a edge in both fights. Zoro might be pretty close to the top if not maybe even actually be the best swordsman in the East Blue. But the East Blue pales in comparison to what's out there in the rest of the world. During the "snail call" with Garp it was clear that Mihawk was bored and later he was able to completely dominate Zoro without breaking a sweat, indicating we have in no way seen anything close to what Mihawk is actually capable of.

    The thing about the sword isn’t that it makes him stronger, except in that it’s quality. Mihawk would break lesser swords far too often. This sword can actually handle him swinging it around. It wouldn’t do anything for somebody not powerful enough to actually make the most of that.
