One thing you didn't mention was the Western style blazer jacket. Would that be considered legitimate Western style in the region or would it be more of a Dude Ranch fashion with Eastern tourists?
I started with the hat. Once I learned about hat etiquette, and materials for a given time of year, there was no turning back. Now, I have adopted other western things into my lifestyle including attending every rodeo possible.
I started wearing cowboy outfits about a year ago from hats to boots, shirt, jeans, and jackets and never look back feels comfortable And turn heads. And I’m 63. Enjoy life.
I’ve worn boots and cowboy hats my entire life. Cowboy hats are perfect for spending time outdoors. Straw hats are versatile, I’ll wear them while wearing shorts and tees hanging out by the pool, to doing chores around the house. A good felt hat in the cooler months keeps my head warm and dry. I recommend a 4.25” brimmed straw hat with a cattlemen’s crease for a first hat. They are clean looking and don’t make you feel self conscious. Once you get used to wearing a hat start to mix it up with different hat creases/colors, brim size and shapes. A pair of smooth ostrich skin boots (I have Tecovas) with khakis, a company Branded golf shirt and I look good at work events. Black French toe cowboy boots with a suit for more formal occasions. Of course boots, Levi’s and a peal snap look great! The Western look is a versatile style that allows it to dress it up or down for the occasion.
Any advice for dressing a little western in the uk. I work outdoors teaching. Rain it the most common weather i face. Not something I imagine most cowboys worried about
@@simoncurran6184 actually a good cowboy hat is perfect for the rain. You’ll want something made with a good amount of beaver felt. Beaver felt really locks in and can take the weather. Google “Cowboy Hats United Kingdom” and see what you can find. I bet you can even find boots. eBay is also good, but you need to know your sizes. I am pretty sure you can find Western stuff. I have an acquaintance in Germany that dresses full cowboy, he rides horses Western style around his village.
The best "cowboy look" I've ever saw was Clint Eastwood's characters in "Pale Rider" and "Unforgiven". The style has color, but with dark undertones, with an overall appeal that says, "this is it", "nothing fancy", and "I'm getting there come hell or high water". Thanks for sharing. Very good video.
I wore western wear despite being from MA from around 13-20 and fell away from it for a long time, getting into classic menswear for a long time. I recently decided to get a new pair of Ariats and I'm jumping back in! Loving this content, Antonio! Keep it up! Semper Fi, brother!
My father and I run 350 head on 16 sections. I'm the most unorthodox rancher you'll probably ever meet. I live where the winters can reach -50°F and the summers top out at 100°F. My work wear is white "hanes" t shirts that come in 10 packs. My jeans are whatevers on sale. My hat is a napa promo hat that we get each year we put in an order for the oil filters for all of the tractors and equipment. I should mention also that i would love to wear a straw hat more often, but the wind blows too often. Lol My boots are expensive Red Wings. I find these don't wear out near as fast as regular cowboy boots. My town cloths aren't very special either. Usually a gray, blue, or black t shirt. Slim jeans and my Iron Rangers. I do love these boots!!
My ropers are Tecovas and are my most comfortable pair of boots. Worth every penny. Growing up bouncing between Texas and Oklahoma this is a style that is more familiar to me than any other and is always a comfort zone.
Been wearing cowboy boots and other boots since I was a teenager and I never owned a pair of boot cut jeans. Never had a problem getting the pant leg over the boot.
I started with a Stetson Apache felt hat…quickly grabbed a Stetson straw hat for the summer. I’m now on my 4th Stetson hat and cant go backwards now. And I live in a very urban area. Still works
Haven't been on a horse in 50 years, but still wearing my boots, cowboy cut jeans and hat. In fact , I just bought a new Smithbilt ( I live in Alberta) "Gus" with a pencil rolled brim.
I love history and I love fashion. What better menswear channel on UA-cam to watch when you are a fan of those two things. Seriously though, you, Style O.G., Harry Has, Gents Gazette and Brandon Balfour are probably my Mount Rushmore of UA-cam Style Kings. If Rushmore could have five people haha.
I enjoyed the video!! I have worn western style most of my life and agree with most of what you have said. The only thing I'd change and of course it really depends on where you live and lifestyle. Keep in mind I love in Canada, so for a first hat I'd probably suggest a felt hat, keep it under $150 and have it shaped specifically for yourself. Sraw hats are good but mainly they are a summer working hat!! Let's face it most people for their first hat anyways will not be working in it. To get the most use out of the hat a felt will go further. Since you can dress it up or down and a simple felt sponge will usually clean it right up. Again thank you for the video!! Cheers beers and whiskey 🤠🥃
I have three pair of Tecovas Deans. Goat, lizard, and ostrich. Two pair of their jeans too. They are a nice between boot cut and straight cut. My wife just got her third pair of Tecovas. Also I have three Stetson Open Roads and two Ranch models.
Antonio, whiskey tango foxtrot, you're a 100 mph 😅 I was going to show this new video to my 13 year old nephew, who's interested in the western look, but is still learning English! Hahaha I'm going to tell him to slow it to at least 0.75x speed. Keep up the good work, my friend. Cheers!
I wear pearl snaps every day. I wear a cowboy boots every day, unless I’m on the trail running. In which case it’s a minimalist running shoe. Cowboy hat cowboy boots is my every day where. The more you wear it the more comfortable you get and the more confident you become. Trust me when I say you’ll get compliments from the old ladies down to the young 18-year-old girls. Something about a man wearing a cowboy hat, pearl snap shirt tucked in while standing in the checkout line next to a few men wearing wearing flip-flops cargo shorts and graphic T-shirts, just makes you look manly AF.
Hey Captain, I've got 3 western boots, 1 pair of ropers, 2 Bolo ties, and 2 western belts, 1 with a large buckle my wife got me with my initials on it. We still have rodeos out here in Gilroy also.
Over here in europe not a lot of people are doing this but I really love how funktcional actually these clothes are. A lot of people threat their "cowboy set" like a baby. I'm going welnding in that stuff the workmakrks you get on the boots the jeans the shirt...ect just give it more character women can see if you are really that kinda man or just bought your stuff 2 days ago😂.
I agree on most things. However, I much prefer having my jeans a little loose or just not tight around my butt or calves. I feel restricted and that it highlights my "dad bod" more than I would like for it to. Same with the belts or belt buckles. I prefer the simple buckle instead of a bigger one because I feel like that cuts into my "dad bod" belly again as well as feel like a cupcake with my belly sticking out. Lastly, depending on where you live, I recommend a straw and a felt/wool hat. Here in Texas, we have summer most of the time and like a handful of "winter" days. So it's okay to still be wearing a straw hat even when Fall starts - but others elsewhere might have colder climates.
Great Video. I do agree that Western style is a classic look. I'd also let people know that, if you can afford to, investing in real quality items is better than the Western "fashion" cuts you often see. For the quality and lifespan of the product, you end up pay more for it in the long run.
I started out with a fur(nutria) cowboy hat, but due to heat...moisture...and weight, moved on up to a well-ventilated Bangora straw cowboy hat. Much MUCH more satisfied these days and I don't sweat as much either.
Any cowboy will tell you the hat depends on the weather. You’ll look silly in a straw hat in cold weather. Grab a felt hat for cold, straw for hot weather.
If you buy a pair of cowboy boots you need to buy a size down it's how they're made so if you're 10 you buy a 9. They will hurt for a week but once broken in they are super comfortable. You can use products to soften them up and you do not need a inner sole , wear thin tall wool socks.
Love this video... just one question..I live in the north of England. (The pennines, bronte country) it's wet soggy windy and peaty. How do I get the rugged cowboy look and stay dry. It's not cold so I don't need to stay warm. The work keeps me warm. But hiking boots fail, rubber wellies are uncomfortable and a gortex rain coat isn't the most durable thing
Hey, a trucker jacket is my go-to jacket. I have a few in different colors and thickness. I like a cowboy hat and I look good in one. The only real problem is what do you do with it when you want to take it off. Where do you put it?
It widely depends on where you live. If you live in a modern city with a lot of liberal college kids, you won't have much luck rocking the western conservative look lol. Of course if you walk into a biker bar in south Texas, people are gonna like your boots
😂 I will dispute this myth. You will find girls with different fetish from cowboys to doctors to rockstars to firemen to artists. The list is endless. One common denominator is that if you are tall and handsome, you can be any of those things and girls will be attracted to you... And if you are bald, chubby, and short , putting on a cowboy hat or a leather jacket or a fireman uniform won't make you suddenly more sexually desired. But somehow, men's brains can't understand this. That's why you can have the same model do a photo shoot selling you cowboy hats, leather jackets, or Tom Ford business shirts... And girls will find the same men sexually desirable in all those outfits...
I'm starting to sense a bit of clickbait in the title. If you want to dress like a cowboy, then I guess you just will [or do already?] If the gal comes up to you and expects you to have some rugged, outdoors job and you then hafta say you're working as a data analyst whilst getting your Master's in Computer Science, then she may suspect that you're neigh REALLY a cowpoke or something...............
Sometimes the snaps will fail. Many of the brands that have snap shirts make those model shirts too slim-fitting and you hafta get the button version ones instead anyway if you have any sort of Dad Bod. They won't look as much "cowboy" with overt features as much, but now most the wannabe cowboys want a more dumbed-down "work" look instead of the old flamboyant styles anyway, unless you're a country singer or something, then maybe?
One thing I know for sure about farriers, it's their expression of "toxic" masculinity that draws all the ladies in. It's nearly irresistible, apparently. I own and ride horses, but it doesn't help, women just think I'm gay. One thing I know about "horse girls" is that she doesn''t want a guy that has the money to have his own horses, but the guy who has the money to buy her the horses (I say in jest)... And pay for the farrier for the horses.
There are men who can pull off a Western look and those who can't. I had a friend (now gone to his reward). He stood about 6'5", was handsome, had an athletic physique, was a champion pistol shooter, had seen military combat in counter-terror operations, had even jumped into a swimming pool with a Nile crocodile. However, when he tried to dress "Western" (to compete in cowboy shooting), he looked like a complete doofus, sad to say!
Hawaiian shirts are fine for Hawaii. Same goes here. The ridiculous belt buckle should just go away. As should any sport that uses animals as entertainment.
