I was at a live concert of this band in Japan, which was great. 6:29 This section is called "Shigin", a traditional reciting technique of Chinese/Japanese poems. Yuko was the former national champoion of this art. This part of lyrics is from a poem by Ouyang Xiu, 11th century Chinese poet. It says "a leopard's fur is so beautiful that people keep it long after its death, and like this, a man's name is long remembered by later pelple because of his fame and royalty during his lifetime." This citation fits very well with the lyrics of the entire song.
The guitar is often a bit higher in the mix for the studio versions and also older live performances. They chose to lower it at some point to make the traditional instruments more prominent, which makes sense. Every other rock band has loud guitars, but Wagakki Band is about the traditional instruments. 👍
The Wagakki Band is an eight-piece band that began with the main vocalist Yuko Suzuhana's desire to present Japanese classical performing arts to the world with a more POP image. They have always been obsessed with the number eight, as it has always been a lucky number in Japan, and they considered this concert, commemorating their eighth anniversary, to be an important milestone. Unfortunately, it has been announced that the Wagakki Band will cease its activities indefinitely at the end of this year, the band's 10th anniversary.
There will soon be a 10 year celebration with two concerts, and they will end with a Japanese tour later this year with songs voted for by the fans. the songs will also be on a "The best of" album that will be released in conjunction with the tour.
They have another song like this one called "Ignite". I really like the music videos for both Ignite and Sun Wheel, but live is kind of a must. Ideally both, but I will let you pick. 😃 Live: ua-cam.com/video/YB0rCfE3yP0/v-deo.html (the best performance, I think) Music Video: ua-cam.com/video/_uxpHq3inUA/v-deo.html (with subtitles)
Thanks for reviewing Wagakki Band again. Upbeat Songs with more guitar are 'Ignite', 'Valkyrie', 'Ikusa' (War/Battle), 'Rokuchounen-To-Ichiyamonogatari (Six Trillion Years and One Night Story), Hangeki No Yaiba (Counter Blade), Synchronicity (Jazz/Swing), 'Strong Fate', 'Hagane', 'Kishikasei ', 'Tengaku', 'Hana Furumai' and if you want to hear something a bit more punk, 'Brain Fluid Explosion Girl' (Noushou Sakuretsu Girl) (live from Japan Tour, 2015). The older videos are still owned by their old record company Avex, who were notorious for not allowing their videos to be viewed widely, so they changed to a new company for the 'Ignite' EP to get more international exposure. You may have some copyright issues with Avex, if you try to use their video. ua-cam.com/video/G2_yDqKkWqw/v-deo.html. Thanks again
Eclipse is another great song by them :) Also, re: the guitars in the mix. I believe the guitarist (Machiya) has a significant say in levels and final sound, so if the guitars are low, he wants them low. If he wants to be heard, you will hear him :)
I think it would be a mistake not to use a shamisen in this track as a segue to another ensemble of great musicians known as Tokyo Groove Jyoshi. The bassist Juna Serita (and of the founding members) has since then left the band to form another group with the drummer Senri Kawaguchi and other six musicians known as The Jazz Avengers, but that is a story for another day. The shamisen player Shinobu Kawashima is a guest musician in this cover of Tower of Power´s song: WHAT IS HIP? [ TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI COVER ] There is also a twin bass cover of this song by these women.
If you want a guitar, you should listen to Togakubi + ouroboros or Howling from 2017 or Guernica or Hotarubi from 2017. You can also find this list online: Top 15 Machiya Guitar Parts 🎸ベストオブ町屋ギター . The general idea is that the guitar does not drown out the sound of traditional instruments, but supports them. It is Machiya's guitarist who does the final arrangement of the songs. He does not strive to always come first. :)

@@DrAcula-os1nzso they are retiring?😢
Yuko recently posted that was a misunderstanding. They are definitely coming back but taking a break.

Reload Dead is worth checking out for a heavier Wagakki Band, another of my favourites 🙂

Ha! I just found that cover yesterday! If you have not heard it you have missed an important treat in your life!
@@rolandkarlsson7072 I would not even mention it without having heard it first 😊and I like all of their versions.
Wagakki Band: Guernica. Trust me.
You want something heavy, try this WB song: ua-cam.com/video/QnKTwuwe6E8/v-deo.html
FYI: Machiya, the guitarist is also their sound engineer.
Did they forgot to plug in the guitar?
