you should be drilling a pilot hole first then steping up the size at least three times. It will make the drilling much easier and save the life of the drill bits.
Yes, at least a 1\4" or 5\16" hole first so you don't have to push the big web of the 3\4" through the metal. The web of the drill doesn't really cut, and the "surface speed" is close to zero compared to the outside of the drill. Think of a small tire compared to a big tire at the same speed \RPM.

I had 3 babies naturally with no medication at all. Someone tell me what a fun labor plan is. I had a positive labor with all of my boys but fun is not a word I would ever describe labor.

I worked in healthcare for 35 years as an Occupational Therapist and ended up with herniated discs even with being careful about body mechanics when assisting with lifts and transfers. Had one surgery and need another. Never went back to work after the first.
@@bethb7965my husband picked up his boat and moved it next to the garage, as he always does, working alone, didn’t ask anyone to help out, thought he could do it all by himself and he heard the snap that day, and that was it. 5 back surgeries later, he’s now 74, and he still has blown discs but unfortunately there is too much scar tissue, no one wants to go in there anymore. He’s tried everything, and has full blown chronic sciatica 24/7. So yes Trent, listen to all who tell you to work smart, listen to people who’ve been there and their lives are kind of over. My husband can’t do much anymore. He took advantage of his back and he’s paying for it now. Don’t do what my husband did. Life isn’t so good anymore for him…

I’m a retired oilfield welder from west Texas. I recently found the best way to drill holes in thick plate . Use common glycol antifreeze instead of cutting oil. It keeps the metal and the bit cool. Cuts faster . Drill bits last a lot longer. I will never use cutting oil again ! Just try it once.😊👨🏭
I hope Trent or someone from "the crew" sees this comment and at the very least gives it a try!
When starting a chainsaw, have the chainsaw flat on the ground put your foot in the handle. The safest and proper way.Stay safe you all!

🤣🤣 My 2nd, had no signs other than nesting, but we were in a blizzard and my dad insisted I get checked because hospital was an hour away. Took 4 hours to get to hospital, went into Drs office for check, I was fully dilated, ready to go across to hospital. Only 2 contractions later, my 2nd arrived quickly. If was you, I'd be at the house in town just to be close, cause those 2nd babies can come really quick!!!
on the plus side..... Mr. Leo is just talking up a storm!! When he said "in the addition", I was flabbergasted!! He's not afraid to tackle any word he has heard! Such a smart boy!!

Triple drill holes that size . Start with center drill next 1/4" drill, then 1/2" drill then 13/16" drill with lots of coolant .
I wonder how living in a construction site will affect Leo. My father constantly built and renovated our house and I still find comfort in hearing hammering, drilling and sawing. Especially when I'm in bed and a neighbour starts working. Great memories that are still comforting. And I'm 77.

Hi Trent. Some may disagree but I always drill a small hole first like 1/4 in. It takes a lot less pressure and goes a lot faster when drilling big holes.. Best regards

Having consistent lower back pain was the weirdest labor I experienced. Cutting wood, drilling thru steel, having a baby. Dealing with defeat is THE labor pains of life. .."This too shall pass"..Thanks for sharing !

I know you're probably done drilling the plates but they make special bits for that type of work, Annular Cutters we use the Hougan brand would do one of those holes in 30 sec

drilling that size hole you should use tree different bits each time drill two sizes up till you reach the desired size ! it will much faster!
Let me remind you that using lipstick on the lag bolts to mark the underside of the beams will help you with accuracy.
Omg... those are some massive cedar beams. They are so hard to work with. Chainsaw is about the only saw you can use. But the end results are gonna be spectacular. Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to Brandon. 😊🎉

I find that if the saw doesn't start right away, I take the spark plug out and use a lighter on the plug . It cooks the fuel off the plug. Then it starts right up .

Hahaha, you should have used the bricks right there to elevate the cement mixer to the right height then put the concrete mix in while the mixer is elevated high enough to pour in the sauna tubes. Have a great day:).
I would think for cutting the big pieces of wood, especially the bottom cut, it would seem a concentrated torch (or even a tip that makes concentrated heat) might be handy. You could hose water if the heat got out of hand.
Whenever Leo talks it's just so cute and I appreciate your occasional translations Allie.
Trent, I'm confident you will figure it out. In the meantime I would probably contact one or two post & beam contractors in the area to get a bid on installing just the post and beams. Then you guys can continue on with the roof framing. As with finishing the drywall, sometimes it just makes sense to bring in the professionals.
I’m not sure if it’s always true, but I have benefitted from drilling a smaller pilot hole in steel when trying to make larger holes. I would try a 1/4” to start and then step up about 2 times each hole.

Drill a 3/16 or 1/4 inch pilot hole in the plates and then go back with the bigger drill and it will be much faster

I've got to say that Leo is taking over your VLOG. I just love listening to him, he has grown up SO much in the last few months, talking up a storm and so clearly. Trent, just like drywall, there are some things that you just pay to have someone else do. This beam work is probably one of them. What you DON'T want to do is destroy your back......which is already in not so good shape. You're a young man so try to be careful.
Chainsaw, not sure if you done this or not but don't leave gas in the chainsaw if you are not going to for a while. Remove the gas and run the gas out of the engine till it stops. By doing this the carburetor will not gum up with varnish. This way the saw will start easy.

I can recommend as being a machinist, drill the plates with a 3/8 hole first then with the 3/4. Also I believe that you have a bench grinder so sharpen the drills every couple of holes, if you don't know how there are lots of tutorials on youtube. Good luck!

I know you are probably done with the plunge cuts in the beam ends, but get a 5/8 drill! Drill out 90% of the material, and then clean up with the saw.

Could you have had the cement mixer in the bed of one of your trucks and then back the truck over the tube to pour it?
Hello, I’m was a welder from the 80s and I’m more concerned about the welds. Please make sure you get them x-rayed to ensure all plates are melted together. It would be different if there was no load. Just a thought. Love your videos.
