Omg, this was in Boston, Massachusetts?! I live 30 minutes away from Boston. I wouldn't have been able to see it, I was born in the late 90s. Perhaps, my grandparents saw it? They were fans of Sinatra and Lanza. (Sigh) Correlli's singing always affects the heart...Ahh, such emotions! ❤
А "Ch'ella mi creda" перекликается с "Indian Love Call". В общем, как-то так.
I avoided this particular Pucinni opera as I thought the premise was silly. Then I heard this opera in full and I totally changed my mind, of course Corelli was singing and it all worked. So much so that there is a similarity with Phantom of the Opera. Hmmm, must have been a time machine.
source of that? Hopefully not just Zucker's programs? Then I heard him in his best years, though people I've spoken to said it was astounding '59-to early 60s
@@labienus9968 Yes, WKCR FM Opera Fanatic Radio show in the 1990s. I heard Corelli in Trovatore in 1961 standing room only at the Met. I thought his voice was more lyric and beautiful than the recent LP that was released at the time. He was wonderful in caressing the Ah Si Ben Mio and my ear was telling me he transposed the Pira down a half step but never the less, set the audience reeling. He hit a tremendous D-Flat at the end of the terzetto of the 2nd act. I was only 17 years old at the time
@@sugarbist As you recall from past conversations, I take everything connected with Zucker with a grain of salt. Were you at the double Trovatore debut? Can you believe Price is still alive? So you did hear him probably 5 yrs. before I did, therefore you'd have your own opinion about "his best yrs. My own reaction given that 65-66 through 71is when I heard my many live performances, I'd say the voice was physically totally there, but had greater control, subtleties, general artistry-so maybe that's what he meant. But I've spoken to people-such as yourself- that the voice qua voice was physically at its height. I spoke to someone-a tenor himself- who heard Franco at La Scala in the early 60s (of course it is quite a bit smaller than the Met) said the sound was beyond belief. Oh, I don't get worked up by transposing Di Quella Pira-every important tenor did-and we know, as you point out, he sang many of them and beyond elsewhere.
@@labienus9968 In my Opinion Corelli was always good or great. It's easy for me or anyone to criticize any tenor. I saw MDM, GDS and Corelli live and I honestly could not tell you who I enjoyed more. They were all terrific in different ways. On the Bel Canto Society site, Zucker claims that Corelli and his wife Loretta use to baby sit him. I know Zucker is a little strange but I did enjoy his Opera Fanatic Programs that my father would taped in the 1990s. Corelli was Zucker's co host on the show several times and I found Corelli's pro and con comments very fair about many singers including GDS, MDM, Gigli and Lauri Volpi. La Scala seating capacity is around 2,000 where the Met is about 3850. I only saw the single Trovatore performance perhaps on a Friday Matinee and it was broadcasted the following day. I was helping my father in his store one day around 1972. A matinee of Don Carlo with Corelli was scheduled for that day and the announcer came on and said that Mr. Corelli is indisposed but will go on with the performance. Sometime during the 2nd act, My father turned to me and said jokingly, and laughed, '' It's a good thing he's indisposed". He said this because Corelli sounded amazing. Price was wonderful in the Trovatore with Corelli, but I'm basically a tenor fan, finding the tenor voice most unusual more so than soprano baritone or basso. There is something about a live performance that a studio cannot compete with. The invisible buzz and anticipation before the singers come on stage and the different pulsation that live singing provides. I also think there is a greater appreciation for the singers, but this can also work against them. Enjoy

Bonjour bravos a 'otte immortelle étoile inégalée qui brille a jamais
I saw him in Fanciulla as a teen. And got his autograph. Handsome as his voice.
crazy voice 💥✊🏻👍🏻
Magnifico come in ogni sua interpretazione...
Franco Corelli. Nient'altro e nessun altro come lui. ❤

Sort of had the same experience. The similarity is called plagiarism with a successful law suit against Webber by Ricordi-easy to find the story
LINDO,EU TIVE VÁRIAS CRISES DE ANSIEDADE POR CAUSA DE VOCÊ😢❤
To his own testimony, Corelli stated that 1966 to 1968 were his best years. This certainly seems apparent here.
