- A short clip which demonstrates the OBD2AA and Performance Monitor apps on the RCD340 Android Auto. Car is a Polo 6R. An ELM327 based OBD2 bluetooth adapter is plugged into the OBD2 port of the car. The apps are essentially pulling data from the Torque Pro app.
You can see that the apps aren't very stable. I wish the developers or Google could come up with a stable app which enables displaying stats like these on the head unit through an Android Auto plugin. Would be fun!

The OBD2AA app (plugin in the truest sense) pulls data from the ELM327 bluetooth adapter plugged into the OBD port of the car through the Torque Pro app. Pressing the OBD2AA icon from the Android Auto launcher, launches the display which shows various gauges depending on how the app is configured in the phone.
There’s a problem however - the app. is a bit iffy with some smartphones and the app. developer does mention it explicitly. For instance, he says the app is not compatible with Xiaomi but I have an MI A2 and it works 7 out of 10 times without crashing (unplugging and plugging the USB cable works all the time). I get this sometimes.
The app. is only available through XDA Labs (you need to download XDA app first and then XDA Labs through XDA) and is a paid-only app (the amount is only 2 USD though). Torque Pro (the full version of Torque Lite; costs Rs. 250) is also required to be installed. Once everything is installed, plug in the USB cable to the head unit and select OBD2AA from the menu.
This works with all the cars and not just the VW Cars. Try it out, its fun. But don’t lose sight of the road if you’re testing it while the car is in motion!

But there’s a caveat/small prerequisite - your Android phone needs to be rooted for this app to work! That means unlocking the bootloader as well. This can be a bit tricky on some phones but phones like the One Plus is easier to be rooted and unlocked.
Additionally, you need to install and run AA Phenotype Patcher to enable 3rd party apps.

Vex-vag is a service app; you won’t get an icon for it. Once the installation is done and you’ve given full rights to the app, if you have installed Torque Pro app, enable full plugin access from the settings. That’s it.
Connect the phone to the head unit and you should see the Performance Monitor app and the OBD2AA app there. Enjoy fiddling with it!

Hello are you still using performance monitor? on my device, performance monitor always crash. I found the cause of crash, if torque is not running , performance monitor crashes. it want me to open torque on the phone, then it works ok. what I want to ask you, do we need torque for this application? actually I didnt see any direct connection to OBD device from performance monitor. Perhaps it uses torque as a connection bridge?
Hi Kagan, no I don’t have the Polo with me anymore so I no longer use the device. This was just an experimental run to test how it works and wasn’t meant for daily use since the app was indeed crashing. Like you mentioned, I think it uses Torque as a bridge between the performance monitor and the device.

I am not sure but I am getting some results , this may be useful for who is experiencing same issue, performance monitor tool is crashing, I tried with lots of phone models and android versions to see if google play services is bahaving. answer is no . when I dont open torque , perf mon is crashing. whenever I start torque and let it run on the phone, everything is fine. @@GaneshBalan
Hey, i am also using this OBD2AA. But in mine the digital figures between dials sticks at zero. But BARS work normally. Do you know any sol.??

How are you routed your wire? Looks like it’s going back into the unit and out somewhere else ?
Routed it behind the HU and took it outside through the co-driver side. Although this works, the cable is still visible and looks a bit odd. Lengthier aftermarket cables don't work with Android Auto either.

After watching your videos, i feel we can do some mods in RCD’s too.. I was thinking to buy android HU but now, RCD’s - Would you please suggest best RCD unit for Skoda Rapid 2014 Model??
There are plenty of mods available for this system. It is documented in a Russian forum. As for the unit, the RCD340 with android auto/CarPlay is a good bet. Availability is the issue as Aliexpress is banned in the country.

Now I’m unsure, whether i need ISO to Quadlock converter or not or ISO to Quadlock converter with Canbus Simulator or Direct plug n play (currently using existing RCD320 without touch)
I have steering controls and cruise control to my car (believe BCM 87) but with manual AC.
I recently opened my existing Radio to see wiring setup, it has 4 pins connected to black adaptor (Power +, power - & cab +, can -)

Unfortunately no. As it is, CarPlay supports a very limited number of apps. With a jailbroken device a few more but that’s about it.

Its a generic, unbranded type OBD-2 bluetooth adapter.
Is compatibile with opel CORSA?
No. This unit is specifically for the VW, Skoda and Seat cars.
