Swear to God, I thought I was the only kid who was freaked out by Mars Attacks as a toddler. Now that I think of it, not a lot of other toddlers were in the theater. Thanks dad!

Oh yeah, when they suddenly started turning people into skeletons? But now when I watch it it's goofy as hell and I still have that bit of residual dread so it's a neat mixed emotion

Just wanted to stay off and say, long time listener, first time caller / commenter. I've been listening to these podcasts for a while now and thought I would finally leave a comment. Thanks for so many laughs and very insightful research into some of our favourite films (or films we love to hate) gets made!
I was about 10 years old when ID4 came out and remember my parents taking my whole family to see the film. It was a big thing for us. My parents are Sci Fi fans and big Stargate SG1 fans, thanks for reminding me that Roland Emmerich did Stargate!
Back to the point. There was so much hype about this film, and I can't remember my parents ever being as excited to see a film again. You hit this hype pretty well in the podcast.
Also love the bit at the start, it made me laugh and kinda reminded me of the Wisecrack UA-cam video series Alien's guide to cinema. Now I'm curious to check to see if Wisecrack ever covered ID4 🤔

I snuck out of work because they dropped it early. The theater was PACKED! My lunch break was spent sitting in the aisle, not an aisle seat, but the actual disgusting, sticky, 2 year old popcorn covered carpeted aisle on top of my work jacket so no one knew where I worked. Probably because they have pretty shit takes for the review portion of their talks - e.g. they think Inendependence Day is a great movie and a serious scifi treatment- their banter is inane and insufferable, and their research is often shallow to non-existent - e.g. Independence Day is a totally original concept - have they never heard of V? And the directors openly discussed how they took inspiration from Star Wars and Spielberg movies. This podcast should just be the main guy sharing the behind-the-scenes stories. The other two bring literally nothing to the table.

Late for this sh*tshow, but hey. Y'all were too young to see that trailer/teaser, when it first came out. I call it "The 100 Million Dollar Trailer". That trailer created so much enthusiasm, it's hard to measure by podcasters. Everyone was BUZZING about that movie, the girl I worked with had a midnight screening that 7//3/1996, and "Awesome!!" was my thought. Every paying customer was psyched as hel. Cheers went all over the place that night, it delivered. But without that "$100-million Dollar Trailer", there would not have been that SH*TTON of enthusiasm. It would've beenfan favorite ... not a cultural event.
