Nice work so far. I'd say start left if you're not confident in making the sliver cut around the window. Or insert some other tile, mosaic, or something to fill the whole wall without having the small cuts to make. Then you can start on the right. But whatever look you prefer is up to you.

You did good not starting in the corner. Corner is for speed so you can tile your way out of the room. If you are taking breaks and coming and going with the project theres no point to it. How you did it is basically what you do for hardwood flooring when you want no transitions. So its good practice.
Agreed, my thoughts have always been to make the most noticeable section the best, which I think the long straight away to the wall as you enter is exactly that in this case.
