I’ve had mine for 5 years. Absolutely love it. Bought it for $1,300 with a bad radiator. I’ve put about 5k into it and I’m truly happy with it. You’ll need suspension and tires right of the rip. That should be step one. Then slowly make it what you want. Keep an eye on temps, timely oil changes and have fun.

I've owned my 8 for 14 years, I'm currently future proofing it, refurbished sub frames front and back, we were blessed here in the UK with the prodrive pz special edition and I have suspension and wheels from one of these, the R3 had a copy of the pz suspension but it doesn't have the progressive springs like the pz. It's got a lot of OEM and aftermarket parts on it that are rare.
I find one of the best headlight upgrades for the hid lights is to replace them with Phillips D2s X-tremevision, they are a brilliant white and I have matching led side lights, they're not cheap, but they are good

Other pluses: the low driving position, low dash, low center of gravity, and short-throw shifter right in the perfect place!

Yup, That's why I bought a second one back in December. $900, hot start issue, perfect body and interior. Just finished putting a rebuilt engine in it. People think I'm nuts now that I have the 2 of them.

In the process of finishing my trade for automotive and have been watching hundreds of videos on rotaries while doing my courses and really want to build one when I have the money to do so, I want an fd but if its not possible I will definitely get an rx-8 haha, I appreciate all the info you've posted over the years man!

I drove on all seasons atr sport 2s, but i wasnt driving very agressive. Then i drove on some federal 595's and those were pretty damn good i was really able drive how i wanted. Went from a 2:50 lap time to a 2:15(had to slow down so i wont get hit for sound🤣) next time ill have a solution for sound.i definitely want to try out different tires after federals go bad
Youre right these cars are so easy to drive. I've said it practically drives itself. I hardly needed to use the brakes tbh.
People ask me about it and I tell them its pretty much a chucnky miata haha

Good RX8's in Australia are around Aus$14,000 to Aus$18,000. Rx8's requiring a rebuild (seized or can't start) are Aus$5-6,000. Low-mile examples are closer to Aus$30-35,000. In Australia, they are not really cheap cars, but they are good value considering that were around Aus$50,000+ when new.
Side Note: My 1981 RX7 N/A in good condition is worth Aus$30-35,000. All rotaries are very desirable in Australia and sell for a lot of money.

Here in the UK a decent 8 costs between £2000 and £4500, the higher end of the price scale would be for a low mileage or limited edition in very good condition, an R3 would start at around £5000.
I purchased mine with 116 miles on it 14 years ago for £17000 as an X demonstrator car

    I sold a 04 grey rx8 for 4000$ I got it with 20k miles for 8000$ in 2014
I also sold my turbo 2 fc for 12000$ same year!
Only problem I ever had with my 8 was the oil lines cranking but I did run it in Boston during winter and summer the lines are pretty brittle! For the most part the rx8 is super responsive and fun to drive ! Still prefer a rx7 but the rx8 so cruise to drive with friends Ac and good sound system ! Last thing I just remember……the heater switch would get stuck in the cold and have a hard time kicking on the heat! Sports car drifting in the snow all night long you need heat !

Get a compression test (a proper rotary-style one) or price a new motor into the deal (and have the name of a shop that will do the work.)

I have an rx8 and an fr-s. The FRS handles much better than the rx8. The FRS is nice because I don't worry about it breaking. I constantly fear the rx8's reliability even though mine has been very good to me. The rx8 is also extremely bad on gas and not that much quicker. With all that said, I can't see myself getting rid of the rx8.

    • @Carlos.Rivera

I have an FRS with lowering springs (eibach pro) OFT tune +JDL catless uel header paired axle back and im deadly considering to pull the trigger on an RX8. I though RX8 chasis (suspension) was better than FRS. Do you think i should pull the trigger and buy one? Or FRS is suffice for canyon carving? Mind you, my FRS is not daily driver... I have a beater for that task. Considering a differential swap in the FRS (4.88) for that matter. Sorry, 2L;DR
I want scratch that rotary itch since 2005
