Vendors have left Nassau Community College without a cafeteria, cafe or snack bar

- The Nassau Community College campus in Uniondale is suddenly without any cafeteria, cafe or snack bar, leaving vending machines as the only option for 12,000 students. As CBS New York's Carolyn Gusoff reports, critics say college administrators should have been better prepared.
So the school admin doesn't understand that a business that doesn't make money, can't survive?
I wonder if they're also offering Economics degrees there.
obviously
@@xiandarkthorne If they are, it's a worthless degree there.
Don't be stupid! The vendors reneged on their contract! It is the vendors that didn't understand that a business don't make money it can't survive, and that included big management salaries they pay themselves!
After a deal is made, the vendors reigned . How much do the vendor management make?
@@nightlightabcd Show us the salaries of the management. Otherwise, you're just using feelings instead of facts. You'd do well at this college.
School’s Admin didn’t renew the contract for food service with Compass. An RFP takes month’s of planing and negotiation it doesn’t happen over night. In the end school admin didn’t want to pay up and didn’t want to hire another food service contractor.
Yep. If they could a mom and pop shop would take the spot. Starbucks probably didn't even want to leave.
Those RFP's though! Normal people and ultra small businesses can't process them. So a huge company with lots of bloat takes them at high rates.
No competition.
This doesn’t prevent these COLLEGE STUDENTS, from packing their own lunches, just like I did in elementary school…does it?
@@stuggaroy RFP's are necessary. They give clear lines of responsibility. And "mom/pop" companies could not even cover the INSURANCE needed. As a small company their insurance for the one location would be astronomical (compared to a large company with multiple facilities under the same insurance umbrella).
The vending machine owner is rolling in money right now
And I still love venders and multiple means of spending for snax and hate for them to go
They need to invest in some Japanese vending machines with burgers, curry, hotdogs, pizza, etc etc

Back in college, personally I cooked and packed all my meals at home but sometimes I studied late or worked odd shifts (especially night shift), I might rush to class without anything proper to eat. Be a little more understanding to college student plights, especially if a food court is unavailable or their hours are closed and you gotta stay on campus late to study or have late evening classes 😊
Seems like a golden opportunity for anyone in the food truck business.

Is there a business school in the college? They should probably review the contracts before management signs them.
It’s a community college. So they probably teach business classes, but I kind of doubt they have a whole school within the campus.
Community colleges aren’t structured like that
and this shows you this person absolutely has no idea what they're talking about about.
This is a public school not private, you can literally track every dime they spend. It's so typical you have these uneducated conspiracy theorists throwing out wild baseless accusations.
@@kim.jong.skillzhe didn't make a wild or baseless accusation or conspiracy theory he just wondered if business students look at the contracts
If there is a business school in the college they should probably explain that businesses need to be able to make a profit to be a going concern and need to at least break even to remain open.

The incompetence on the part of this school's financial administration glares like a neon headlight. The video revealed no discussion of the school's budget nor how the money is allocated. If this is typical administrative behavior at that school, then it's not long for this world.
Nah! This just shows the immaturity of these ADULTS, to be unable to take care of themselves as well as elementary school students can.

This is a community college. Kids are only on site for maybe 3 or 4 hours a day. They're most likely still at home with parents and can make their own lunch. If this happened at a university with live in students THEN it would be a problem.
As soon as I heard it was a commuter school, I pretty much lost interest.

Why are they throwing around terms like "food desert"? One mile from the school is a Target, Walmart, Costco, Trader Joes and Whole Foods. There is also an entire mall full of restaurant options. Average tuition per year, $6330. Found that in a few seconds on Google. As it is a community college, odds are they don't have a meal plan and just charge a la carte.
My local community college had less than half the student population than Nassau and still managed to have a culinary program and operated a restaurant and food court on campus for the students of said program to work as part of work experience.

I work at a college, and the contract for food service is very complicated. The vendor does not provide any of the equipment necessary to run a commercial kitchen. Their responsibility is for staff and food prep and cleaning. My college even is required to provide the cash register and payment system.
