And if not, if people wanted to bad enough, they could like sue against those who stole the lighter. Also, The reason people do this is because others get entertainment from it. And to add to this, law.cornell.edu also states this about assault: "No intent to cause physical injury needs to exist, and no physical injury needs to result." So yes, they were assaulted, they were no longer on his property at the time so he can't do whatever he wants to them.

I doubt a mall cop is actually an officer of the law. All they call really do is call the real police.
They have the same rights and authority that the owner of the property has - they are acting on the owner's behalf. Legally, they are authorized to remove people from the property or even use deadly force (doesn't mean the property owner will authorize them to use deadly force).
