    My Dad in the late 70s grabbed a bunch of comics out of a dumpster next to a comic shop. 155 comics. That started my love of comic collecting. The covers, the relevance of characters. I love it all. Thank you guys for the vid.

    I can not thank you guys enough for doing this particular video. It assures me that I am grading comics correctly. There has been a lot of problems with people buying from me on ebay claiming that I had greatly over graded a comic. I Believe in the Overstreet Price Guide Standards AND the owl card which I use religiously. The standards set by the three grading services are not anywhere near the Overstreet guidelines.

    That was a great video guys! Very good examples. Nice info. I'm going to have to get the grading guide. I hope you guys in the future could answer the question on selling on eBay. How should I photograph my book? Should I underestimate the grade? Maybe not state a grade and just have pictures and let the buyer decide that's the price they want to pay?

    No way that Green Lantern spine split is the allowed quarter inch for fine. FN- with that giant split

    That "dimple" at the edge of Daredevil 8, at 1:09:16 is most likely a bundle crimp, from the era when comics arrived from the distributor bound in a bundle with wire or string. Sometimes it's just a crimp at the edge, but other times there can be deep rills running through the flat surfaces of the book, especially on the back side of the bottom comic in the bundle. Less frequent is a front cover with entrenched rills; maybe the comics with such defects appeared more obviously defective on the stands, and the comic-buyer selected the next one down instead. A crimp at the edge of this Daredevil seems relatively modest, to me.

    Just out of curiosity, I have a First appearance of black widow book (TOS52) it's missing a good corner 1 inch + piece from the bottom left corner. Other wise it's complete, good staples, off-white pages. Is it still worth having graded professionally with that cover damage?

  • @hermanmelville8151
    @hermanmelville8151 6 років тому

    hi,if the staples are not in the center of the comic,they are not rusty but not in the middle of the two center pages,they are placed liitle left in the one of the two central pages?it's from the factory pressing undoubrtly.besides that the issue is a nearmint-vf issue.how would you grade this issue?
    also i have to say that the stapples re shown in the backcover not in the spine.

    Thanks so much guys. I am a vintage and antique book collector/seller, but my brother-in-law has asked me to please, please try to help him with his comic book collection...starting with the 1st Conan the Barbarian. All that you shared was so very helpful. A specific condition that I did not see discussed is when there is a small (less than 1/4 inch) closed tear. In our case it is not at spine, but rather along outside edge. Can you help? Excepting this and utilizing the great info that you shared...I would guess Very Fine +. Thanks in advance. Dina

    I give these guys props for trying but they need a lot of help. They are doing their best, but they are not close at all. Looking at the lower left back cover of Avengers #239 and thinking that that 5 inch crease or stacking crease is manufacturing?????? Wow. Also on the Firestorm #1, the writing on the DC bullet, if everything else is 9.8, it's a 9.8. The pages were white/OWW. For OW pages you don't drop the book to an 8.0 You can have a 9.8 with OW pages. It's not until you get to COW pages that the grade starts being affected. CGC doesn't downgrade for writing on vintage books because it was so common at the time. How Chris was handling the book up to the light was killing me. People at the drug store or grocery store wrote on the covers of new books for distribution purposes. How do I know. I was a CGC grader for 4 years. I watched 15 minutes of this video and had to shut it off. 90 minutes is nuts. This is how little people know about grading, that they thought this video was excellent. I am here to tell anyone who watches this video - JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THEY TOLD YOU WAS WRONG AND IGNORE IT COMPLETELY. I will have my own series of videos coming once my non compete runs out. Excelsior and Nuff said!

    Just out of curiosity - what are those holes at the bottom of the pages of the copper books? I have some keys that have that same flaw but some that don't. I just assumed it was production related, but is it something else?

    • @robertt9342

      3 years late, if we are talking about he same thing, it should be holes created from drawing paper through the printers. You might see these on newspapers too.

    So how can there be any Spiderman or Ff#1 let alone a 9.6 if that is less? There should be grading based on siler, gold ages etc. So nuts. That's a 9.0 ..but their are early action comics with higher grades.. how?

    I have recently come into possession of a Wolverine 1, 2, 3 1988, the pages are crisp and the pages are white. How should i go about selling this. Bought it at a car boot sale for a £1 each and i could have cried i found this kind of find. But how on earth do i go about selling this? Also Ive been seeing varying prices, what should I expect. I am living in the UK

      eBay, or there are facebook groups for it. Your best bet if you dont know the condition is to get it graded at CGC and once they return it to you graded sell the books.
