I was only 3 years old that day in May but I remember the telephone call from my cousin Dorothy Kerry asking my Dad to rush out and try to help them save what they could from their upstairs duplex in Vanport. Not much was saved but they came and stayed with us. My twin cousins were 2 years old and my older second cousin Tim was 8. Their Mom, Dorothy cried about loosing precious photographs. At the time I was just glad to have my cousins to stay and play.
