The highest denomination in 1982 was 20 Naira.
Even in 1999 the highest domination is 20 naira
And that was when I open my first bank account, I open my account with 20000 naira in all state bank with 20 naira notes

I don’t think that’s intentional exaggeration, he must have mistaken 20 naira notes to 50 naira note. I call that a pardonable misspoke.
