  • Here is the first running attempt and problems raised with my Accucraft Mortimer. Being a brand new engine these issues are not acceptable and will need the appropriate remedial work carried out under the manufacturers warranty. I have to say that Accucraft UK and later, the approved repairer, Abbeybach Engineering, both dealt with me in an excellent manner. I could not fault the service and was kept up to date with communication every step of the way, so thank you for that service Graham and David! The engine was returned to me in good time and in a good running order, with advice for the latter. I have to say being a 'Roundhouse man' always wanting to try an Accucraft engine, it has put me off the brand somewhat. For me it is more important that things work well and properly, than them to be just that little bit cheaper. Unfortunately this episode has left a bitter taste in my mouth, regarding my feelings to this engine, so time will tell if it stays or goes.

My engine has had a Leakey safety valve since last September but I could fix it myself and if I sent it to England for a fix up then my other engine would have too much work. It not that much of a problem after a while. You get used to it

nice loco but its just highlights what a friend of mine who runs live steam said to me, 'you wear out an accucraft but not a roundhouse'

Hi, I was going to point out the perils of using tap water in hard water areas, then realised that this is a brand new model...really? With that amount of limescale? I should think that whoever passed this for quality control also works for Ready Mix Concrete! Glad you got it sorted.

Where can I find a cheap mamod that is about 60 dollars to 80 dollars, I have a heard time looking for one and I know restoring one is hard. I once restored a Kelvin stationary engine (You might not have heard of it, it was a cheaply made engine) and it was a hard task. But I want to try and restore one for my dad. So where do u think I could get a cheap Mamod?
Sorry if typo, friend translated for me. (I'm Taiwanese)

I doubt you will find a Mamod loco for that little money. Good luck with the search.

At the time of this video the engine was probably over 15 years old and well out of production

Thanks for your comment. This loco was reintroduced in 2011 and was sold for a couple of years, the chassis number confirms this is a ‘final batch’ loco. I bought the loco in 2015 so it was at most 4 years old if it had just been sat on a shop shelf since reintroduction. As it was sold ‘brand new’, accucraft honoured the warranty claim and repaired the locomotive free of charge. All carriage was organised by accucraft and the repairs carried out quickly and efficiently, I cannot fault the service. What was the relevance of your comment?
