This piece was inspired by yesterday’s lunch. I’ve been trying to get out of the studio as much as possible so I walked down through the hot sun to sit by the water, found a bench in the shade and popped my headphones on. i can’t remember why now but Susumu Yokota came to mind. Maybe it was the eerily clean, hyperfake seafront estate i had to venture through. anyways, i had a lovely moment and i guess that was in the back of my mind this morning when thinking about making something.
Susumu’s use of environmental samples was an early influence that’s stuck with me for sure. i started this piece off with some running water but as it developed i felt like a city ambience suited it better. the ghosts of office lunch breaks and traffic and so on.
To finish this off i was gonna send the microkorg through a tremolo pedal but then i thought hey the microkorg can do that itself right? so i modified a patch to modulate the volume with one of the LFOs and that kinda tied it all together suddenly. There’s a lovely fuzz from the highest speed.

Interesting effect - was the pink trem pedal just for window dressing ?
