I bought the zpacks arc haul for myself and the Flash 55 for my son for xmas. After trying both on side by side I couldn’t believe how well the Flash 55 carried even though it was 1 pound heavier. I ended up sending the arc haul back😢 and I’m getting myself a Flash 55 mainly for the reasons you said. I’m in Arizona and we have the privilege of water carries quite often this thing carries water like no other. 🤙

Agree that you can do a lot with a 40-liter pack but going with a 40 liter mean you need a second one if you ever do trips that require more volume. I've found that a 50-60 liter one is more versatile as a do everything-pack, but it's of course tempting to fill up the volume even on trips where a 35 or 40 liter would have worked.

I agree especially if it’s a roll top closure you can just roll it down to a 40L

    • @frstesiste7670
      @frstesiste7670 4 місяці тому

Personally I don't use roll tops but I certainly see the advantage for decreasing/increasing volume. I want a top lid with pocket though as I find that super convenient. For me using some side compression straps works reasonably well for adjusting volume, but it's not a perfect solution.

I appreciate your truthfulness in regards to these products, and I bought & love them too, based on ur Reco, but they have their place in my gear loadout depending on my hike or overnight(s) trip.

I paid full price (CDN$80) for my Decathlon MT100 down jacket, and got one for my wife at $49 on sale, but she hates the pink-ish color. That's the other problem with Decathlon Canada, limited colors & smaller European sizes, with zippers on the wrong sides. Limited 1 or 2 year warranty against manufacturers defects (if ur a member, 30d if not) gotta baby ur down gear, but my other down sleeping bags have lasted decades.
Oh, and in Vancouver, only a pop-up store yet, the flagship store doesn't open until Spring '24. I'm heading to the Philippines, and gonna check out their first flagship Experience store in Alabang (8 stores to choose from, 3 flagship Experience stores with full range 5000 products from 70 sports, smaller City stores, and smaller yet, Connect stores). I'm looking at their Evadict line, trail running, trekking pole quiver to see if I can adapt it to my EDC sling day pack as my Costco carbon cork trekking poles are a bit long when collapsed, and I don't trust the bungie cord attachments for "bushwacking thru willows" and the like. The quiver "slings" so u can secure & retrieve ur poles easily while on the move, but my EDC pack slings itself, so I don't need that option, secured, yes.
Love my REi Flash 55 backpack 🎒 with torso adjustment & easily reachable water bottle pockets. Got it at half price member's only sale, alongst the Helix RW inflatable sleeping pad, cuz it's more durable/suitable tho heavy, for stealth/tarp camping, I'm a side sleeper & don't bottom out on it, unless sitting or elbow down, but I got a custom 1/8th inch CCF pad to help protect it, & me too.

The Bogler trowel is nice and lightweight, but my experience with it on a thru-hike of the CDT last year had me swap to my Vargo Dig Dig. Constant use in hard, compact and rocky soil caused the tip to split and bend. I met other people on trail with the same issue. For weight savings you'll never feel anyway, and only matters if you want to flex your LighterPack, I'll stick with the more heavy duty Dig Dig. Oh, and yes, being left-handed with serrations on the wrong side was a bit of an annoyance.

Holy crap~! I'm so happy you are wearing that Forclaz MT500 Hooded Jacket! Please do a review on it ASAP! There's no reviews on youtube yet about it right now and I really want to see how it stacks up to other jackets that offer the same warmth values. I'm just so happy you are wearing it, lol. That means a video will be coming out soon!

I think redundancy in using single pole tents is not a factor for the vast majority of backpacking trips. Look how many people complete the longest thru hikes with two pole shelters. Even if one of your poles breaks, it's fairly straightforward to create a makeshift pole.
Of course, there are other reasons to prefer a single pole shelter.

"Driver" by Jerecho Gear attaches to the existing trowels to make them Boggler-like, plus it can be used to drive tent stakes. Any thoughts on Bonfus Middus as double wall alternative to Zpacks one poll tents?

Good reviews. Decathlon jacket does very well by itself for me in temps freezing and above.
Im glad you like the rei flash. Ive tried several models over the years of the flash and they just dont fit me right. Ive always had issues accessing water on the older ones too.
In terms of comfort, you prefer the helix pad over the new nemo tensor extreme pad?

My problem with Flash is the hipbelt size, minimum 32" even for S size! I remember you said you are 31" in your review of Focus pack. Have a Focus and had exactly the same problem of having to cinch all the way down even before hiking out. How did you manage the Flash hipbelt? Using Zpacks now and feel their hipbelt a bit too short. Well~ I guess you are right that each person is different. I feel easy to find packs that are comfortable and light these days but hard to find the right hipbelt size. Thank you for another great video!

Im lost between the decathlon, patagonia, and arcytrex down jackets. I don't mind spending the extra money for something that will last me a while as it is an investment, but at the same time it seems that the decathlon is basically the same as the patagonia and arcytrex but for a quater of the price! Am I wrong or are there more differences.

    • @danielsingh9415

There are more differences. Temperature ratings for the MT-100 are for active warmth, if ur static or in camp, it's good "down" to about +5°C (sorry, couldn't resist 😉). Not that I would recommend hiking in a down jacket, gotta keep it dry at all costs, especially from within

I have no experience with Decathlon. But, if money is not a problem, but you want something reliable, you cannot beat Arc’teryx or Patagonia for customer service. Both of those companies have free repair options, and both companies (probably more so with Arc’teryx) are trusted by professionals who are out in the extreme elements day after day. I have had excellent customer service experience with both Patagonia and Arc’teryx.

    Heya,
    Off Topic Business Question:
Im an outdoor adventure photographer (in Alberta, Canada), and I work with outdoor brands & tourism shooting commercial content.
But, I want to start a UA-cam channel that shows my hiking/camping adventures, talks outdoor about gear, and (I think) ill want to talk about my photography too - about my shoots, gear, etc.
Im registering my photography business in Canada, but wondering how it works with UA-cam, if it would qualify as one whole business, or are they are two separate businesses.
They are somewhat related, but not entirely.
How do you have it set up?

I'll serrate your trowel, or you could easily do it yourself with a bastard file or a triangular needle / jeweler's file. They have sets of needle files at harbor freight for 3$ which is where I got one of my sets about 15 years ago. If you use a vice to stabilize the trowel, don't clamp it down so hard that you ruin the bend.

I had a flash back in the day and it is definitely NOT a durable pack, especially if you have to stuff a bear can in it. Its super comfortable and light though, so I repaired it 2 or 3 times, but after a seam ripped about 5" in length, I opted for a more durable pack.
