- On April 30, 2021, I visited Axolotl lakes, outside of Ennis, Montana, in order to search for tiger salamander axolotls. It was a stunningly beautiful area, and I really enjoyed my time there!

I hope you guys will enjoy this new avenue I am taking with my content. I have a few more to edit and get out to you, but please- let me know in the comments. I will also be putting out some super short paddling videos somewhere on my social media. Thank YOU for the support! I hope you enjoyed seeing the native habitat of the barred tiger salamander axolotls.
Omg this was so cool! I love this kind of content from you. Please tell me you at least had sunscreen on though that snow glare can get you real quick 😂
I wear sunscreen year round!
The evolution of this channel is awesome. As my curiosities and queries are quelled by your older content, I find myself being absolutely inspired by your new content!! Bravo, Aquarium God!!!!👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥💯
Love it love it!
we actually have barred tiger salamanders in some lakes in utah. Cecret lake near Salt Lake City has only barred tiger salamanders and no fish so the salamanders are everywhere. It's also only like a 0.8 mile hike round trip and it is beautiful.
edit: They also stay in axolotl like form which is cool.
Now that I'm 81, I can no longer travel to out of the way places and hike the way I used to (arthritis, etc), so watching your videos is a wonderful way for me to experience those beautiful spots. Thanks Rachel for sharing your exciting trips!
Dat sounds ver nice dat you can sea this and be not sadd I sadd some but no kill me self
absolutely love these new videos. Even without seeing the salamanders, it was great to see the scenic views and water testing. Can't wait to see what's next!
Thanks! I was SUPER bummed to not find them, we tried for quite a long time (there all day). I do have other videos that I have to edit where we were much more successful :) Stay tuned! And thank you so much for the comment and support!
@@RachelOLeary ooh suspense! That certainly sounds exciting; can’t wait to see what you found!
Incredible Rachel!! Thank you for the opportunity of letting us go on the journey with you!! This is a place I've dreamed of going to and seeing the wildlife at Axolotl Lakes, Montana!! Incredible footage and it was really cool to see your findings and learning about these incredible salamanders!! Thank you so much for sharing!! ❤️🤗🙏🙌
I've been SUPER hyped for this new content. This is exactly what a lot of us want to see, I think. I love all of the aquarium YT gang, but THIS is what the hobby is about, not a subscription feed full of live streams. Crank it out Rachel!!! Before the livestream bois catch on! Make this your thing!
Really loved this vid Rachel, and the new Hair style. 😄 Some beautiful shots!! Nice to see snow now that we are in the 100s this past week. 🥵 Gorgeous Lake!!! 😘 I sure miss being out in the wilds. The lakes and reservoirs here are Very Low if any water at all. 😬. Love your ingenuity. 😄 I have some new mini Orchids that are just starting to spike, anxious to see how they do first time blooming. One is considered extinct in the wilds now. Glad to see you having Fun... And thanks for bringing us along. Later Field Biologist... 👍
Up to your nerd kit in mud, questionable hygiene, dodging elk poop, potential run-ins with grizzly bears and Sasquatch. Damn right I'm jealous...
I am SO in my happy place with it! It is super amazing that folks seem to enjoy it
@@RachelOLeary Nice! Who needs a white sandy beach when there's a perfectly good Montana mud bank available? Have fun!
I had never seen a place like that! (Never seen moose poop either! LOL) Thank you so much for sharing your adventures! I also love the water testing and under water views!
Beautiful scenery, great idea. I loved it all. You’re looking really young, we love your hair like that.
Thank you so much 🤗 I haven't been called young in a very long time lol
This was quite lovely. For those who have never been to Montana, there is a lot of territory that is undisturbed and pristine. To me it is the most beautiful state. I like this style of video. Looking forward to more of your travels.👍
HI from British Columbia ..keep coming , you're almost here ..summer in Canada is nice
I would love to hit BC! Waiting for the borders to open
Thanks for taking us on your adventures! Keep up the fantastic work! And you're absolutely rocking the hair!!
I can't wait to see more places Rachel!!!!!! Awesome little amphibians, it's crazy they have such a small native range... Safe travels out there keep the videos rolling out
Great video Rachel, thank you. I give it 5 stars or 10 stars or whatever is highest. Nice to see the natural environment. I remember in a previous video, when you said that you were going to be delivering this kind of content, I was wondering how you would pull it off. SUCCESS. l became jealous that I was not there. Like your water analysis and attempt at underwater footage. Looking forward to your next trip.
Thank you!
I love that there is ice and snow around yet you are sitting there in a vest. It must be warmer than it looks!
Fantastic! So glad that you are taking us along on your adventures. Looking forward to more.
Thank you for showing us these fabulous views of Montana (and wildlife poop LOL).I'm so enjoying these videos Rachel. Stay safe out there.
Thanks for taking us along. Kept my attention. Well done!
Very cool. I love these "on site" videos and hope to see a lot more of these... ill go back and watch the ads 2x if it helps fund more trips :)
Thanks Rachel!
Appreciate the support!
Right on Alex, I'm with you ❤️🤗🙏🙌
The view and scenery was beautiful, thank you for sharing
Thanks for taking us along
Gosh the view is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I loved every second of this vlog! Thanks for sharing
I'm so glad!
I love your travel footage. The USA is a beautiful country. I enjoy seeing places that I’ve never been and that I need to visit. I’m so glad you are sharing your travels. Are you keeping a written travel log with all the data from the various locations to compare later? Impressive go pro set up.
Love it! Can't wait to see the paddling videos too.
Lol " hello elk poop".
I really enjoy your adventures outside of the fishroom.
I love these types of new videos! We are all extremely excited to see more adventures!
im unable to xpress to u jst how proud & truly happy & xcitd i am for u. u seem to be having sucha blast & doing what u obviously love! go head girl!
Montana is so beautiful! Thanks for taking us along on your adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful country! Thanks so much for sharing, and I look forward to seeing more.
Hell yeah!
True wilderness, how wonderful to be able to experience this thru your travels. You looked so content sitting in the rocky mud taking water samples. Wish you'd had better luck finding one of the salamanders, but still, it was worth the scenary and sampling the water, and seeing the underwater plants. Awesome video Rachel, looking forward to more.
👍💓👍
Super Nice, Rachel. Love it.
Thank you!
She’s very respectful of animals and I’d let her gather up anything she’d want since she’d love them all. Not like I own a forest or ocean or anything lol
I need an API Aquaspin water tester. Lots of good information. Love ya Rachel!
Thanks ❤
hmmm is it accurate ? even their master kit test are known to be not
Enjoy the content. Can't do much cause I'm old .Watching you do stuff l wish I could do.
Beautiful scenery!! Thanks for sharing! 💛💚💙
Excellent. Thank you for a heroic effort.
I will go back and be successful! I have promised myself
@@RachelOLeary BRAVO!!
Great content! Interesting to see various natural types of water conditions.
Thank you for sharing, love watching your adventures and learning from it
You seem alot happier than you have been out there in your natural environment
Dang, this was super cool! I really like this new direction. I gotta say, I was surprised by the ammonia level in that lake considering 0ppm is the bare minimum (maximum?) we keep in the aquarium hobby.
Great vid! Love the new hair style! ;-)
Even without seeing the salamanders it looked like a great day.
This footage is so awesome and beautiful but I would shit my pants trying to drive there by the mountains 🤣
We are subscribed an happy looking at the comments and speaking for myself. I hope YOU are enjoying it and take care. :)
Hell yes Rachel find those guys!
Hi Rachel, I love these videos, thanks
hurray! so glad, thanks for the support and comment :)
YES! I've been eagerly waiting for this video ever since I saw your posts about the lake on your Instagram!
I'm sorry you didn't get to see any, but thank you for this video still! I'm adding this to my list of places I definitely want to visit.
I am going to try and go back when its a bit less icy. I think we were probably just a few weeks too early, unfortunately. It was actively snowing half the time we were in Montana and got quite cold at night still in April.
Long ago I bought a mud puppy- water dog At Alsip Nursery for $5.00 .Shortly after it went through metamorphosis.I fed it flying grasshoppers , our outdoor cat would help me catch them, also fed him crickets and even pinky mice.It lived for more than 20 yrs.I really enjoyed having this barred salamander.I’d also take him out side and sit with him in the grass, he loved smelling the fresh sir
Look at that sky!!!
Thank You for taking us on one of your many journeys. This was very exciting to see where you go to spot US axolotls. Can't wait for you to try again.
Thanks for sharing a new and useful video I like the feeling that communicates well even if the language is different Full watch, I want to come again Cheer
🌷💕🍀
Beautiful scenery and looks like you were having fun 👍
I had a blast!!
I loved this video. I look forward to more of this coolness.
This is AMAZING 🤩 please keep sharing. ❤️
Spectacular! Thanks for sharing this...
This is really good content. They need to give you a show on animal planet. Get that travel budget paid!
I would settle for breaking even 🤣
I know you have a million things on the go but a seperate channel dedicated to outdoor stuff like this and the moose! I think with those videos trending and your natural skill for it you may take off!
I love the new content and look forward to seeing more!
I always wanted an axolotl, as I worry about their natural habitat and numbers dwindling, but I know I wouldn't make a good keeper. Thank you for the video.
I’d love to go fly fish there. Been up to glacier before I got into fly fishing. Dying to get back ever since.
it was an incredibly beautiful area!
Love it nature at is best .thank u mrs Rachel stay bless always keep it up definitely good on hand research .
Very cool video
Thanks so much 😊
Really enjoyed this 👍🏻👍🏻
great to see you getting out there and getting filthy. Have so much fun!
Judging from the layer of ice, it was probably too early for them, they are likely still in winter rest. Did you get the temperature of the water?
I've kept the regular A. mavortium for a while. Interesting animals, albeit a bit boring to me, since they dig themselves in. These mole salamanders are like some fish; christmas when you see them, but otherwise the tank looks empty. Axolotls are the only species from the Ambystoma genus that I enjoy keeping. Nevertheless, I'd LOVE to see them in the wild. Hope you find them eventually.
Loving it, Living your best life...
I love this SO much! Thank you!
That was very interesting
thats amazing. I would love to travel there if I ever go to USA
Great video, love Montana
Awesome video!
Good video thanks.
Home Sweet Rockies
I mean summer tubbin' is great, but who would have a problem with this!? XD
I was really nervous because the concept got very mixed reviews. It's why it took me a month to put it out there!
Rachel the only woman I love with tattoos
personally i find these little bad boys way prettier than the "typical" axolotl ( theyre all beautiful though)
WOW !!!!!!!! your hair is AWESOME !!!!
are you making fun of me, LMAO. That is it in its native state after camping for a week by the river, lol
@@RachelOLeary look at my pic , I would NEVER make fun of a persons hair .
mine is always out of control and there's lots of it.
on your worst day , your hair is AWESOME !
I'm an oldish hippie , deeply in love with my wife , so I'm not hitting on you either .
I just really appreciate that fabulous haircut you rock .
also I value your knowledge , so I never miss one of your vids.
I’ve only ever seen a wild salamander once when I was a little kid. There are some around here, I’ve just never taken the time to go herping
The amount of times I've fished these and had no clue.
Loved it!
awesome video
Hey Montana is home for me so cool I didn’t know they were here
what part of Montana? This was near Ennis, I put a link in the description to the state site that has pretty good instructions on how to get there (definitely need awd or preferably 4wd with high clearance for the BLM roads though)
Love the title lol
Montana is so beautiful
400acres doesn’t seem like a very big reserve. The country here is beautiful. I love seeing natural habitats
Sorry no salamanders. I still enjoyed this video. Thanks😉
Hmm, I wonder if my Nissan Rogue AWD could handle it? Eh, who am I kidding, it would get muddy and I can't have that. 🤣
Beautiful country
Was that a sculpin at the end Rachael?
Yea I think so
Good stuff.
Just go to Mexico city in Xochimilco you can find those Axolotles (Ajolotle) that's how you pronounce the name
Very cool
Love the west soooo much 🥰
me too!!!
You look good w/o make-up!!!
John Clare (founder of Caudata.org and Caudata Culture) had some barred tigers CBB in 2013 and some other years, I'd start by asking him on facebook or something, I am an extreme fish enthusiast but an even bigger salamander nerd.
Edit: I thought you were trying to find them for sale, i wrote the comment before i watched
i appreciate it! I wanted to see them, sad that I failed, but eager to try again in a different season (or later in Spring next time)
I has no idea we had salamanders and axolotl in Montana
I'd have skipped uploading this one.
toda una científica
