You're perfectly correct. There were many singers from Hong Kong and Taiwan in the 70s and 80s that sang many songs that were in fact originally Japanese songs. I know many Chinese people still have ill feelings and hatred towards the Japanese due to WW2 and it makes me sad but I still hope that music can bring us all together in peace.
In my opinion In Chinese, "喝采" and "喝彩" are both right nowadays. But, since the song came from Japan originally, we should use the kanji(漢字) title in Japanese. So, it should be "喝采"(かっさい, kassai). However, "記念"(きねん, kinen) should be translated to "紀念", because in Chinese nowadays, "紀念" is right, and "記念" is wrong. So it is simply the question of translation, kanji has much difference from Chinese words today.
I think should be "喝彩" cos the definition of "彩" is ［本义］颜色。｛转义］：精美、多样；光荣、光彩 whereas ''采'' means 摘［本义］and 搜集、选取［转义］。 For reference only, please correct me if I am wrong.

飛上彩虹(1984中視)無論視覺和聽覺均是上乘之作。可是開播時，我正好分發下部隊，無法觀賞鳳姐的節目，當時心情真是鬱悶萬分；至今依舊感到“終身遺憾”。
18集的飛上彩虹我大約只看了1/3，最後兩集還是寫信請家人幫忙“錄音”(當時家中只有錄音機)。
17首歌曲影片，有許多都是第一次看到，真心感謝您的熱心，能稍稍彌補多年來心中的遺憾。
