Fantastic use of recycling! I've never learned to play darts but I still think this would be a fun project. Maybe I'll make the girls a dart chore board and they can toss a few to see what this week's chore will be. Might as well make chores have a bit of fun. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
The Nomadic Polywright Show I started doing those or fun, it's a tongue a cheek design! I wish I could take credit for the wrench idea, but it is handy!
Peter Brown hi I am one of you subs I love your videos and I know this is a lot to ask I know but could you please maybe make a wood cut out of my home state west virginia?
Hip Hop actually I don't I wanna head and I was like several courses in the hotel cannot record brown but you guys are paying for like a color yet jobs in the sky bridge and I am finishing up now
Simple, sweet, nice outcome. I loved playing darts back in college. If I ever get a lathe, not holding my breath, that will be the first project I turn.
SuperYtviewer If you want to make throwing darts, I would suggest a heavier wood and maybe a steel spike. They work, but they're too light for my tastes!
Aww, but going directly to step 3 is so much more fun! They say Norm used to make each project three times. The first time to figure out what he was doing. The second time to film it. The third time to end up with something that would actually look good upon closer inspection.
The darts look great. I made a set a while back from a Penn State kit for my son. It's one of those things that you never really seem to use but seemed like a good idea at the time. Regards, Bob
Peter Brown I used to, long ago (rapidly approaching old man status, here so I'm allowed to say that) in a league for a few years. I wasn't particularly good, but definitely improved after my second beer. After four I was deadly accurate and even if two went in the wall, I'd shout "180'!! like those brits on TV.
John Heisz That's too cool. My father played in a couple of leagues while I was growing up. His dart board was the first thing placed in any house when we moved. It's the only game I feel like I can really get behind. A sport with a pint and a point. :)
John Heisz getting drunk, or pissed as the term is in British darts, and thinking a hole in the wall is a 180 is exactly how we traditionally play darts in an English pub. You've really grasped the game and our culture.
John Conklin my friend has an old set of lawn darts and they are banned up here to, but they fly so well and as long as you use common sense their is no danger to them
WEIGHT should be fine they are compairable in size to the old ones ive seen ...some of those were actual set with molten lead to secure the tips and give a bit of weight to the dart
Very awesome! They're so neat and elegant looking. Do you know what would've been sweeter? Maybe instead of milk jug flights, putting in a feather instead.
If you take a fine-grit sandpaper to the HDPE surface, you can get superglue or epoxy to stick. The surface is too smooth for the adhesive to get ahold of, but roughing it up gives it some adhesion.
Peter Brown very nice project! Really like the fact that you have humor in your videos! ;) some don't and they can get boring to watch :D. I work a lot with wood myself, mostly with simple tools... Don't have the space or money for equipment such as yours. But I really enjoy it! Keep up the great work!!
Zeedew Thanks, I try to keep it light in the shop! There is a popular video from ***** on building a shop made hobby lathe powered with a 3/8 drill. You could totally turn this on one of those!
I saw these and totally thought, lawn darts. My grandparents had a set and I wonder today how we didn't end up with a dart in the brain. Nice dart set.
ahhh that 3 step system! I wish I could do that when I do my videos but sometimes you have to (need to) build only one dog house :) Great looking darts!
i went from the hammock video to this and got surprised because i thought you changed your work shop lol, i love you videos i always check to see if you post new stuff. good stuff bro 😃
Hey Peter: Do you know that my first set of darts looked much like that... the weights are a little wonky though... 7, 8.2 & 8.5 grams each and for flights they have a strip o f feather glued to three sides.6" long and 1/2" in diameter at the widest point. I got them some time in the early '80s and they were pretty old then! I like your idea with the nail... and being aluminum it shouldn't do too much damage if you miss the dart board either!! But I think seeing as I like a 28gr dart I may use a steel one just to get some extra weight... I remember what it was like trying to get these ones to go that far!! 8-o Great thinking outside the bottle for the flights too! Thanks for sharing Larry
The Tiny Trailer Workshop I'm used to throwing bombers so these are crazy light. I think you're right a steel tip would help! The ones I saw, all used turkey feathers, and for my first attempted I tried to glue the plastic in the same way. CA would not stick to it though!-Peter
Terrible pun at the start of the video. But keep up the good amazing videos. They lighten up my day when I am feeling down and make me reverse my frown.
you should do something with yarn, maybe? Maybe epoxy, maybe an inlay, idk. You're the one with the ideas, I just think it might be a creative medium. Especially a colour like Red Heart's Americana which is SO RAINBOW.
Pedalz Workshop Thanks! This is the El Mucho Cheapo chuck from Woodcraft. It's a great chuck for a budget. If I had some coin, I'd probably get a nova scroll chuck.
I like this. I'm getting ready to do something similar, except I don't have a lathe. I will probably jimmy rig my drill press instead. Idea on the flights, why not just use feather fletchings? That's what I"m going to be doing since I have a proper fletching jig (for arrows, so I'll have to jimmy that too). I was thinking about making a video on it, but this video is pretty much identical to what I had in mind, so there's no need to clutter up UA-cam with more of the same stuff.
+JathTech Every video someone makes brings new ideas to the table! I think it's a good thing. This channel is all about odd materials, so I skiped the feather and went for something off. It's sorta my niche. Good luck on your darts, and I'd love to see the video or finished product!
I just subscribed to your channel and am interested in the lathe you are using. Is it a Rikon mini lathe? If so, would you recommend it to a novice turner?
Steve Kilpatrick It's interesting. I like it, and I have abused it a ton in the past 6 years, but it's not a great lathe. It's a little underpowered the belt speeds aren't the best steps, but for the $300 I paid for it, I got my money's worth. I'd rather have a vintage tool. Something made in the US from the 50's or 60's. Like a Delta or Powermatic.
i've been thinking about this for two weeks. anyway, cool video, thanks....so can you do some turkey darts and make another video? i wanna know how that part would go and how easy it would be to make them straight? and, no, turkey is not important...maybe some seagull feathers would give a modern day twist. have you looked at the old darts like these? i think they drilled holes in the sides and filled them with lead to give them weight at the nose. the ferrule on some was just for protection. c'mon make a feather video?!?!? i'll make a vid on demand for you?
Richard Wachtel Thank you! I've actually got a huge pile of milk bottles in the shop right now. Now if I could only find the time to make another HDPE project!! :)
Peter Brown I have a blank made from 4 one gallon water jugs and 2 Tide laundry detergent bottles. It's got a super-funky look to it, but if I can somehow either gain access to a shop or get my own tools or even send it your way, then hopefully it will become more than just a bizarre paperweight...
Richard Wachtel yeah, it's strange material. I know there is a large group of slingshot enthusiast who use HDPE. Seems like a fun project and wouldn't require much past a coping saw and a TON of sand paper...
I actually just make blanks for a friend, he commented on another one of your videos. His UA-cam channel is Hath'alud LaFox. Recently the blanks I've made have either burned and buckled, or only the outside melted, leaving a lot of unmelted plastic in the hollow center. I'm still experimenting with melting temperatures and ovens. I have 2 blanks that need to be redone before I can even send one to my friend.
***** That's right! I'd been collecting it to melt it down. But since I had some on hand I thought I'd try it on the darts. I was blown away when the CA glue just peeled off!
the project made it passed the editing trash can and the shop can too,if it wouldn't have passed what were you going to do for a video this time,a song and dance:),i'm sorry i have enjoyed all of the episodes, the darts are awesome Peter all the best to you and yours
i was wondering if you delete all of the video of your problem projects,i thought it might be cool to a see a video of stuff that didn't make it on show maybe some of the viewers could help figure out how to help with the parts you have trouble with, they must have been good ideas if you chose it for a show project, just a thought
Ron Sanford Yeah, I just checked, I deleted the footage! Here is the log footstool I wanted to make. Loved the look, but my band saw just couldn't handle the end grain cut...i.imgur.com/pKucFSi.jpg
Fantastic use of recycling! I've never learned to play darts but I still think this would be a fun project. Maybe I'll make the girls a dart chore board and they can toss a few to see what this week's chore will be. Might as well make chores have a bit of fun. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Thanks Heather! They're not great darts, but I think they make for cool note holders. At least, that what I plan to use them for! :)
Cool project Peter, well done.
Thank you Carl!
Those came out really cool. They're quite nice looking too! Well done, Peter Brown
Thanks Steve. You gave me the project for my next video, which I'm editing now... :)
Awesome, I can't wait to see what you've made.
I always love to see the variety of stuff you come up with Peter!
Nick Ferry Thanks Nick!
They are beautiful. You should make an antique looking dart board too. Very cool!
+TuckerSP2011 I'd need to score some turkey feathers!
always a pleasure to watch whatever you put out here. The lock for the ice cream has to become a classic.
effeinc Thank you very much!
Triangle, oval, and a line, your FB drawing was quite the abstraction of these darts! I like the wrench for sizing.
The Nomadic Polywright Show I started doing those or fun, it's a tongue a cheek design! I wish I could take credit for the wrench idea, but it is handy!
One of these days I might try a guess.
Just found you on UA-cam and can't stop watching your are awesome !
Sean Freeman Thank you!
Peter Brown hi I am one of you subs I love your videos and I know this is a lot to ask I know but could you please maybe make a wood cut out of my home state west virginia?
Hip Hop actually I don't I wanna head and I was like several courses in the hotel cannot record brown but you guys are paying for like a color yet jobs in the sky bridge and I am finishing up now
Another video that hits the bullseye!
Leave now
MrD Poling I darted to my keyboard to leave this comment.
Cool project Peter! This makes me want to get a lathe even more.
Darbin Orvar Hey Linn! The lathe is a blast. As, I tell everyone, it's addicting and so you'll find yourself ONLY turning for bit! :)
I enjoy your narration peter, thanks for another great vid.
Shop built Thank you!
As someone that has a little teaching under his belt, I hitted the 'Like' button on the 1:08 mark. Realy cool project, there!
Thank you very much!
Great Darts Peter the walnut looks nice
Robbiethewoodturner Thanks Robbie.
Somehow...a must have for a Dart Collector.Great Work💪
Aww, but going directly to step 3 is so much more fun! They say Norm used to make each project three times. The first time to figure out what he was doing. The second time to film it. The third time to end up with something that would actually look good upon closer inspection.
krtwood Could you imagine how much work that third one would have been had Norm had to film in HD?
The darts look great.
I made a set a while back from a Penn State kit for my son. It's one of those things that you never really seem to use but seemed like a good idea at the time.
Regards,
Bob
RJBWoodTurner It's a turning thing! We've all turned honey dippers and bottle stoppers and are like, "Where should I put these now?!" :)
Cool! What's your average?
John Heisz I play a lot of 301 and 501. My average is about two beers before I start missing the board! :) Do you play?
Peter Brown
I used to, long ago (rapidly approaching old man status, here so I'm allowed to say that) in a league for a few years.
Thanks for watching Chuck!
John Heisz getting drunk, or pissed as the term is in British darts, and thinking a hole in the wall is a 180 is exactly how we traditionally play darts in an English pub. You've really grasped the game and our culture.
I am always intrigued by your creativity. Yours is one of my very favorite UA-cam channels as I never know what to expect next.
Michael Trent Wow, thank you Michael. I really appreciate that!
That's a great little project... Excellent... Cheers...
thank you!
I think darts made out of hybrid blanks would look super cool!!
Cool project and entertaining as usual.
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Cool project! I love your take on watch, do, teach.
AdventuresInDIY Thanks! It's weird the way we all try to be 'teachers' when we sorta are just experimenting...
Hi Peter: nice little project mate, great set of darts, cheers Harry
Harry Watts Thanks Harry!
Great project Peter, I like to play darts occasionally, these are pretty cool.
Andrew Stevens Thanks Andrew! They're not great darts, but they're really neat push pins.
Now make them out of salt
drugbutter oh my god he would either kill him self or burn his house down
Jason O'Brien I think those two go hand in hand to in some cases.
Peter Brown, you never cease to amaze me. ✌
I like your 3 step system :)
Great project too!
Matthew Cremona Thanks Matt!
Very cool project Peter. I always look forward to your videos.
J.D. Ransom Thank you JD. I appreciate that!
Nifty project. I say up size and make a set of Jarts... now those are fun and dangerous!
John Conklin On it! Banned in 50 States has gotta to mean they're a real fun toy! :)
John Conklin my friend has an old set of lawn darts and they are banned up here to, but they fly so well and as long as you use common sense their is no danger to them
i use the sharp hooks for hanging curtain for the spike and making small awls they work good, also large yarn needles work great too! great vids
Wulf Don t Those are both good ideas! How's the weight? The major issue with these were that they were way too light for darts.
Love it. This may be my next project.
earzcd That's cool! If you make some, Id love to see it! Fair waring, they're cool looking but pretty lousy throwing darts... :)
Your channel is addicting 👍
kaatercentral Thank you!
Oh to see a young and innocent woodworking Peter Brown.
Now you need to make a nice walnut cabinet for your dart board. ;)
scrubby4130 Ooh. That would look sweet!
Very nice, great job, enjoyed watching that! :)
Thanks!
A bigger version of these would make some sweet lawn darts!
Joe Gianladis Great idea. Just be careful, lawn darts can be dangerous!
If they don't work good for darts you could all use them to hunt for a bull elephant :)
Cool Idea. Good job Peter
Custom Chris Thanks! You're right these things are a bit menacing!
Nice darts.
Clever project. You make a good point.
Ted Alexander Nice one! You've got a sharp wit!
Great project! and I love it that you recycled materials as well, very creative :)
Thanks Josie!
aluminium nails are for aluminum siding normally
Shaun Kennedy yep
Man your channel is amazing
If you take a fine-grit sandpaper to the HDPE surface, you can get superglue or epoxy to stick. The surface is too smooth for the adhesive to get ahold of, but roughing it up gives it some adhesion.
Looks Great really enjoying your videos. Keep it up.
NerdaRang thanks! Will do!
Great job!
Awesome video man keep them coming
Peter Brown very nice project! Really like the fact that you have humor in your videos! ;) some don't and they can get boring to watch :D. I work a lot with wood myself, mostly with simple tools... Peter Brown thanks. Surely gonna try to make it! :)
I love these videos!
I saw these and totally thought, lawn darts. My grandparents had a set and I wonder today how we didn't end up with a dart in the brain.
Nice dart set.
Daniel Mills Seriously, lawn darts were CRAZY! :) Still, loads of fun!
ahhh that 3 step system! I wish I could do that when I do my videos but sometimes you have to (need to) build only one dog house :)
Great looking darts!
Andrea Arzensek Thanks! Mostly I just make the one item, and hope that I get some good bits on film! :)
He is so wholesome 😍♥️
Now we need a day board :)
Great darts, glad you had more luck with this than your last 2 projects. Although I did enjoy the puppy shop vac video that you did instead
Mark Chapnell Ha! Thanks Mark. That puppy shop vac is now my most disliked video ever!
Peter Brown you can't please everybody
i went from the hammock video to this and got surprised because i thought you changed your work shop lol, i love you videos i always check to see if you post new stuff. good stuff bro 😃

Nice darts. I'd suggest you use feathers and fletch them like wood arrows. They'd perform better, look more aesthetically pleasing and look vintage.
Peter Musante Thanks. You could totally go for the traditional look. These are my own creation, and I really like the contrast of materials! :)
"Take out the trash!"
Funniest thing ever!
ZDoude thanks!
Cool darts
Thanks. I'm actually looking at the Rikon Midi that has a 1 hp variable speed motor for around $550.
Steve Kilpatrick I think VS is totally the way to go, and the 1hp will be nice! Good choice!
beautiful work, keep it up :)
Terrible pun at the start of the video. But keep up the good amazing videos. They lighten up my day when I am feeling down and make me reverse my frown.
I like your hair lol. luv the videos

+TheWhovianMaster oooh, maybe even just a bottle stopper because gorgeous. trying a bottle stopper first may also show you if it's even usable. f
+TheWhovianMaster I've got yarn on the list! I really like that idea! Thanks!
thanks mate you really helped
Captain Sylar Glad to been of use! :)
hey man, this looks great! wish I had a lathe to do this! maybe I will hack a drill and make one, one day...
alphandor Thanks! ***** made a cool hobby lathe a few weeks back that works with a hand drill!
those are pretty sweet
mikey24199 Thank you!
Stellar job! What kind of chuck do you use?
Pedalz Workshop Thanks! This is the El Mucho Cheapo chuck from Woodcraft. It's a great chuck for a budget. If I had some coin, I'd probably get a nova scroll chuck.
hi nice video . wanna ask how long are the darts
I like this. I'm getting ready to do something similar, except I don't have a lathe. I will probably jimmy rig my drill press instead.

Plumage can be made in the form of an old newspaper, so that there would be a "VINTAGE.")
Do vintage lawn darts next
Cool darts, but you need to incorporate copper pipe somehow. :-)
Roundabout Woodworks That's a cool idea! Hmm....
"Take out the trash!" haha :)
Murtagh653 Thanks! :)
Those would be great for playing dartball.
+Zach M That sounds like a fun game!
a lot of churches play it around here in the midwest.
they're missing the lead weight that holds the steel tip
It's not as fun as dodge rock.
+Jesus Christ all hail Satan 666!!!!!!
Interesante Darts!
Tiroler Drechsler thanks!
i've been thinking about this for two weeks. anyway, cool video, thanks....so can you do some turkey darts and make another video? i wanna know how that part would go and how easy it would be to make them straight? and, no, turkey is not important...maybe some seagull feathers would give a modern day twist.
have you looked at the old darts like these? i think they drilled holes in the sides and filled them with lead to give them weight at the nose. the ferrule on some was just for protection.
c'mon make a feather video?!?!? i'll make a vid on demand for you?
Love the vids
and a strip of rubber to your push block itll help
+Jacob Emory good idea!
aluminum will get dull so won't it be better with iron nails
these are cool :-)
Night hawk Thank you!
hey peter i have a idea about a build a tiny walnut/pine wooden doll of you with a cup of epoxy in one hand raised and a bar of HDPE in the other :D
you should make lawn darts
Nifty!
Thanks!
It seems HDPE is one material you use quite a bit. I could send you some blanks (might need to re-melt them down).
The milk bottle material is most likely HDPE, look for the recycle triangle. If it's hdpe it has the number 2. Pretty much nothing sticks to it:p
***** That's right! I'd been collecting it to melt it down. But since I had some on hand I thought I'd try it on the darts. I was blown away when the CA glue just peeled off!
awsome
What gun do u fire them from?
Does anyone know what the dimensions are for these wood darts? Length? Diameter of fat end?
They look a little big for regulation?
Stephen Hodge And they're far too light for real play. I have a set of 18gram tungsten darts I use for playing. These make great note holders.
Traditional Americam wooden darts use turkey feathers for flights.
Exactly! As I wasn't sure where to score any, I went for something wild instead... :)
From a Turkey of course haha. I like them they look sweet. And even if you dont play just having them in you board on the wall looks great
Why aluminum points? Did I miss something?
+ulpilotrmh I thought it would look cool.
Make more videos with hdpe???
Hey peter have you ever Been in any movies or tv shows you look...familiar
the project made it passed the editing trash can and the shop can too,if it wouldn't have passed what were you going to do for a video this time,a song and dance:),i'm sorry i have enjoyed all of the episodes, the darts are awesome Peter all the best to you and yours
Ron Sanford If I had another failure I would have upload 4 minutes of me sobbing in a pile of shavings! :) Thanks Ron!
i was wondering if you delete all of the video of your problem projects,i thought it might be cool to a see a video of stuff that didn't make it on show maybe some of the viewers could help figure out how to help with the parts you have trouble with, they must have been good ideas if you chose it for a show project, just a thought
Ron Sanford Yeah, I just checked, I deleted the footage! Here is the log footstool I wanted to make. Loved the look, but my band saw just couldn't handle the end grain cut...i.imgur.com/pKucFSi.jpg
Ca u make a long board
Brice Violette I could, but I wouldn't have a clue what to do with it! Bob at I Like To Make Stuff made a video on the process a while back!
It would've been cool if you used HDPE
not really
;O) Learn one, Do one, Teach one, is how I was taught your way is correct I'm sure any way Great Video...
Reed Kay Thanks Reed!
