- The different forms of Echeveria colorata
One of my favourite echeveria species is the colorata. I have the 3 base forms:
- Echeveria colorata 'Lindsayana' (aka Echeveria colorata fa. colorata)
- Echeveria colorata fa. brandtii
- Echeveria colorata 'Mexican Giant'
I like the Mexican Giant so much because of its size and white farina, but the others have similarly very interesting shape, which I really like (same reason why I like the agavoides species too).
These are the 3 different naturally-occurring forms of the colorata. The rest that are coming out are cultivars (cultivated varieties).
It's quite easy to tell them apart.
The Mexican Giant will be the easiest to spot. If given enough light, it develops a very thick, white farina. The rosette also grows to a very large size.
The brandtii form has long, slender leaves.
The Lindsayana is closer in shape to the Mexican Giant, but with not as white of a farina. The red tips are visible much like on the brandtii.

Awesome music thanks to EpidemicSound
I tend to post a lot of non-video stuff on Facebook.
Great episode! It was very helpful to compare them side by side, as well as seeing the mature specimens! Love Cerriscapedia!
Thanks Gwen! I enjoy making them too!
Chuck
Yes I have seen this video the first time you made it but I found it really helpful to view again. I knew you had addressed this before. I’m going take a good look at mine tomorrow. Great info as always 🤗
I’m a year late to this video, but I’m excited because I bought my first Mexican giant on the weekend! You’re videos are great! Thank you 🌱
Yes!! Thank you 🙏 I was hoping you would do a comparison video on these! I get them confused 🤷♀️
Glad you found it useful Amy! I'm thinking of doing more comparison videos in the coming weeks/months now that the echeverias are actively growing (and look less damaged haha!)
Very interesting. Thank you!🙌🏻👍
Sua coleção é belíssima! Parabéns!
So beautiful !
I haves a few Lindsayanas and Mexican Giants but had no idea they are related. Now it seems so obvious. Thanks for the info
Kindly make more of this kind video. Thanks
Will do! I do have previous comparison videos, you might be interested in them too.
Great as always!! Thank you. Could you do a video on the care and plant requirements of aeonium nobile. Thank you
Thanks Chuck! The best way to get it, is to see it..... and have someone else explain it . You had great specimens of each variation which made it easy to see their differences 👍🏻. But it got me thinking. Have you considered doing a similar kind of short video series to demonstrate the visual differences between a mature plant and it’s pups/younger self? It’s sooooo hard to tell what you ‘might’ be buying 🤔
That's a great idea. At least that's an excuse I can tell my wife why I should go window shopping for plants haha!
Kidding aside, I definitely think that's a good idea. I just need to film more specimens at various sizes. The pups should be easy since many nurseries sell tiny plants. It's getting mature specimens that would be tricky. Then again I don't have to do everything today! The pups of today will be the mature plants of tomorrow!
Who needs an excuse?! Echeveria’s are a way of life!
I’d love to see you cover this topic the in future, but I’ll keep watching your other great videos in the mean time while I wait for yours to grow big enough to make the comparison video!
Love your work Chuck! 👍🏻 Oh, and Zac and Niki are gorgeous little bonuses in your videos 😀
excellent video chuck i understand bettr thank u hurry up spring
Thank you for making videos like this.
I'd like to ask how to pull the leaf from the mother rosette for propagation. I bought colorata yesterday and to my surprise, this one is stemless 😅 Thanks in advance!
Hi im quite new to your channel and trying to binge watch all the episodes 😂. They are very informative thankyou for sharing you knowledge. I had a question
Is the colorata ice different from lindsayana or are they the same?
Thank you for sharing! I finally know the succulent that I have is called “Mexican giant”. I have never been able to propagate the Mexican giant by leaves, I don’t know why? could you please share more knowledge of growing and propagating this succulent
I am looking for a plant, it is white with pink tips.. really beautiful.. am wondering if it is a type of Colorata.. I wish I can send you a picture..
It's hard to found a mexican giant in my country... it's sad because it's one of my favorites!
They are beautiful, one of my favorites.
And colorata Tapalpa?
What happened with your Brandtii? I can see dried leaves that you don't remove already? What a shame! XD Just kidding great video and I discover the mexican giant my favorite of these 3 Echeveria! Take care
Haha, as you can see, I've been slacking off! 😂
i see the echeveria blue bird and mexican giant quite similar to each other :))), can't seperate it
