With the USFS, you never know if it's going to be open. You should always check with the Gold Beach ranger station before you go, if they will even answer the phone.
I have playlists set up by state. I know I have covered a few spots along the Colombia river. I only saw pay sites along the Rogue river near the coast. There are some free spots on the Chetco river I covered a video.
You can free camp on most of the large gravel bars below Lobster Creek. Most of them have access, and you can drive through Lobster Creek CG to get to that bar.

There are flushing toilets and you can charge your stuff in the bathrooms. I love this campground. Lots of crow action.

Kind of reminds me of east Tennessee a little but more evergreens over here. Less fall foliage in the Oregon mountains in this area.
