This song ALWAYS makes me cry because it is a part of my life's soundtrack. Not to mention, I know about heartache.
I'm currently on a grief journey for an unexpected death, and this song is very true. People if you have someone you love, please let them know. You'll regret it if they are gone and you didn't.
I understand that pain fully. The best friend I ever had, my brother, was taken by a sudden aggressive colon cancer almost exactly 4 months ago, and I have countless memories of him that save me. We Held hands tightly when he was lucid. Indeed, hold your loved ones close. You never know when your next moment with them may be your last.
Your spot on lost daughter 1year and my sister the next year end between 2 friends of the family and a father figure it's a lot to handle
Song of the album for me. Something beautiful from the tragedy of Connor Claptons incredibly sad death. This and Tears in Heaven are tributes that will last forever.
A beautiful track in the album, espically for it's background story, overall an underrated imo. So much emotion in the lyrics, the Instrumental, and the meaning behind it, hard to see not much credit given to it. One of my favorites. Long Live Genesis, A never ending legacy. 💙👑

I love this song, I lost my brother in December and played this at his funeral. My heart is certainly broken in pieces
My brother and i were 16 months apart. He was my best friend, my hero, and I lost him to Frontotemporal Dementia, before he even turned 62. I feel as though half of myself is gone. I miss him so much.
I lost my daughter 3 years ago. This song is just fo me.
They played it to Eric Clapton , for his approval. He in turn played them ‘Tears in Heaven’ which had the band in tears

Always surprises me - each to their own and all that - who can pluck certain songs out as beautiful/favourites. When to me this is Genesis phoning it in ... a trite lyric with pedestrian melody and Rutherford's guitar breaks sounds like he might just nod off. 🤷♂️ Genuinely couldn't even recall how this song went until spinning it again here. Utterly forgettable ... all over again.
L O L you r right by the way that was how melodic pop rock was made in the 80th though it is from early 90th the way was the same, and it sound similar to some clapton too

My problem with this track is that Genesis has done sadder tracks, i'm not asking for every track to be better than the previous one, its just that this track doesn't connect much with me, as well as the rest of the world because aparently not many know about this track, definitely more people know about its "sister" song. Anyways, the lyrics are much better than the full delivery of the band, this should've been a B-Side.
This is one of my least favorite Genesis songs in their entire catalogue. The music is very flat.
I disagree with you. This song is much better written and performed than Eric Clapton song. Yes, it is more of a Phil Collins sound, but he’s the reason why they got more famous over the years.
This version is slightly different to the original 3:12 and Phil's harmony is not the same as the original album version and the harmony afterwards is different until the end of the song.... I never knew they changed it...maybe Phil / Tony / Mike didn't like the original version?
The drum mix is slightly different too.The snare drum sound is more obvious and has a more "real" feel than the original version.
@@immrjohndaryl probably because its the remastered version, so the mix is different. But i wasn't actually expecting the songs content to be slightly different?
