you're thinking too hard about it.. this footage is from an instagram live, i immediately uploaded after the performance was over. every one in the theater was able to hear her vocals.
Because kids going into music are not encouraged to sing like this anymore and it pretty much ruins their voice. They don't exercise it. Singing is like a muscle. You have to keep singing and have good habits. So they pretty much have to rely on autotune. It's pretty screwed up. Even trained singers don't sing like they used to because it's not "on trend". So for those who can hit those ranges, they're not encouraged to sing. And it ruins their voices. It would be really nice if you just shut up.
This is why I don't go to concerts. I pay to hear the artist sing live in their purest form. I don't pay to hear stupid drunks in the audience sing offkey and clap while the aritist is still singing. When in doubt, follow movie theatre rules and STFU. I feel like the only exception to this would be a rock concert or some similar music genres.

Opera singers learn how to project their voices to the back of large auditoriums, over an entire live orchestra, all while singing the most difficult pieces imaginable (with no microphones). Sure, certain voice types lend themselves to doing this more easily, but there is a *lot* of technique involved in projecting one's voice in that manner (technique which, btw, Gaga was not using in this video). It's far more than just "belting."
Her classical training was in piano, not voice. She's a very talented singer, but the way a classically trained singer projects their voice is very different than what Lady Gaga does in this video.

Reminds me of a story from an audience member who went to see Ethel Merman perform late in her career, and they were only a little surprised to see the cast would be using mics because she was getting on in years and surely needed the extra boost. It turned out the mics were for the rest of the cast because none of them could match her volume.
Kinda related: my husband and I saw Tony Bennett in concert the night Neil Armstrong died. Mr. Bennett sang this without accompaniment, and it was magical. (Winspear Theatre - incredible acoustics). I wonder if Gaga was aware he did this?

I was waaaaay in the back for Friday's show and heard every word (once the audience shut up and paid attention). Not only did she project majestically, but she was able to maintain her beautiful nuances and coloratura.
OK PEOPLE! LEARN FROM THIS! STOP your screaming while someone is singing! ESPECIALLY WITHOUT A MICROPHONE! Cheer and applause AFTER the performance!
