- Riley is diagnosed with autism and says it is like having "explosions in his mind." He was nonverbal until age 5 and would frequently sneak out of his house to look at the stars. Now able to speak, Riley shares that while stargazing he has always fantasized about traveling to the moon.

My 4 year old son is non verbal and needs quite a bit of support. It makes me happy that this channel exists and that the stories of these wonderful kids can be shared.

What gives it away?
I like how he explains it as your mind exploding because that's exactly how it is. There's so much sensory info and questions going on in your mind that sometimes it actually drives u nuts
His personality brightened my day today even though this was filmed 3 years ago. He gives me hope for my son who also has autism but much younger. I can see this boy is definitely going places regardless of his disability. Keep on dreaming big dreams. I know you'll accomplish them 💕
Amazing how well he communicates from being non verbal for so long. My autistic son is 8 and he doesn’t communicate nearly as well, and he was never non verbal. I really hope my son becomes “unlocked” and can communicate freely like Riley someday.
it’s different for everyone, but it’ll get better with age and proper speech therapy

I’m the mum of an almost 5 year old level 2 asd boy. My son didn’t start talking till February this year. I love being swept up into his world. It’s such a safe, friendly and happy place. Yes there are really tough times but I love him and his mind. I wouldn’t trade being his mum for absolutely anything.
I can't get over how much Riley reminds me of my son (8) who is also on the spectrum. They're personalities are SO similar! No two people with Autism are the same, but I just can't get over the similarities. It's so sweet to see another little boy like mine!

It's kinda sad that my parents didn't know this in the 80s and just thought me strange. He's very secure and open to contact. He'll have a blast (pun not intended) in today's world. 😊

I have a son newly diagnosed with autism and this is my son’s behavior. Echolalia and speech Apraxia is what I’m managing. So overwhelming for us as an African American family! This family is beautiful and his mind is as well!

I’m stuck on Tom Thickens. That is a catchy name!! It is very clear that Riley is highly intelligent. He has a wonderful imagination and is an inquisitive boy. I hope mom is able to find resources to help him develop to his full potential.
This reminds so much of when my sons were little.
He is very smart and funny. Not everyone sees the world the same and he has his own way of imagining and thinking about the world. I believe he will accomplish a lot and will make a difference in the world.

Can I tell you they have a super intelligent son don't never think that he is by any means slow also my son had that same problem of bouncing around and especially in school it was hard for him to sit still so he had in one of his classes a exercise bouncy ball that he sit on like one of them yoga ones so that way he could move around like that and bounce without in one position without really disrupting anything else and that like majorly helped as far as him sitting still in school because he was allowed to bounce and sit and do his work and he can bounce at the house on his little bouncy yoga ball and eat dinner or work on homework trust me girl it is a lifesaver for any kid with autism ADHD try it you'll see

Please pray for my daughter. She is 3 and was diagnosed with autism. Currently she is taking speech therapy once a week. I don't think is enough but is all what insurance can afford. I pray she can talk and communicate her needs. Is hard not to hear the word Mama 😔

That is a lot of echolalia. I thought I used it a lot but he almost exclusively uses it. Very clever kid
How can you tell?? It sounds like he is responding ….
@@superhumanchick303 he responds alot using echolalia by what it seems almost, picking a phase he had heard before that can express the answer for him, which is often why is seems phrased wrongly
I've worked with autistic children in isolated settings (old residential with school/home combined) from ages 5-22. He seems to be using something that I refer to as "rote" language. That would be snippets of conversation he has heard and embraced and he has attached personal sentiments and memories upon. He is, however, oddly monotonal on occasion.
@@superhumanchick303 I can tell because not only am I autistic and use echolalia myself, but I also have noticed several of the references he's made.

Riley reminds me a bit of a man I work with who's also autistic; he'll parrot things that other people say or that he hears on TV, but sometimes you're not sure if they're really his words, or if he's just repeating these things because it seems like the correct thing to do. But then I thought, hey, don't all of us do that, to a certain extent? Like, repeat things just because other people say them, without really thinking about the meaning behind the words? And how often do we communicate by quoting fictional characters, or other cultural references? It makes you start to ask yourself, "Are my words really MINE... or just BORROWED?".
