The Cat Behaviorist, Jackson Galaxy, advises against using the "hands" to play with kitties because this leads to biting harder and the kitty attacking the hand in the future when the kitty grows up..he suggests to use a kitty "toy" instead to entice kitty into playing. A treat in hand instead for kitty would also be better so kitty will think that there's something good associated with the hand, and it's not a plaything to attack and chew on, or that it may be a threat pushing into kitty's space when kitty grows up..as I've seen happen on a lot of these videos. Made sense to me😉
I had adopted the practice of not using hands to play with my two new kittens 5 years ago. I also had one male cat of 13 years in which he grew up playing with my hands. 😆
So based on my experiences, I found out I had more blood from the two cats who had never learnt how to play with human hands. The reason was I taught my first cat how much pressure he could use before he hurts me; so whenever I use my hands on him to play or even when he is made at me, his bites are controlled whereas the younger cats does not know how to control the pressure and accidentally draw blood at times. So now back to training the other two on how to use their claws when they have my hands within their grasp. These two younger ones, has claws like a raptor and are very sharp!
Well good for you to be able to take the time and have the patience to train your kitties like that..bless you. However, many pet owners don't have neither the time nor the patience to train a cat that way.
Not to disrespect those owners, but I doubt that "some" owners even know very much about their pets other than the basics..like what they eat, where they go do their business, how much they sleep, how to scare them for a laugh, get them dressed up in restrictive clothes for a laugh..these owners think is all in good fun..certainly not for the pet though and just makes me furious..and to me borders on animal cruelty. I sometimes like to think these pets that do get vicious with their owners by scratching or biting are getting their vengeance for their owner's mistreatment..like karma kinda..just wish "some" of these pet owners would have a little bit more respect for these innocent beings they share their home and their life with that they have taken on the responsibility for to look after..well good luck with your kitties😸😸I'm sure you'll have many hours of fun with them☺☺☺have a great day!!!
