Not sure why these Wicked Edge videos keep popping up. The AI should know that someone who watches Burrfection and OUTDOORS55 isn't interested in a monstrosity like this.

Almost $1300 and not strop? For beginners that's not good. It's also crazy to me when hand grinding on diamond isn't that hard and you can get the stones for under $100. Hey to each their own I guess.

Not only that but project farm, a UA-camr that tests anything and everything did a video on fixed angle systems and the $120 work sharp fixed angle system tested at 100 on the BESS sharpener, while the $1200 work sharp tested at 90. For ten less when you’re that low you’re not really getting much for ten times the price. The difference between 90 and 100 on the BESS tester on a decent knife id wager is a day of use. That being said if I had it to spend, I’d probably still buy this because it is obviously built with quality, will give easily repeatable results and wicked edge does have a lot of good upgraded stones available up to 3000/glass and strops and ceramic. The great thing about knife sharpening is there is something for everyone.

@@Stolas1777 yeah I saw the project farm video. That dude is straight up a national treasure. And yes, if money was no object I would definitely rather have a system like this over the Worksharp style. The Worksharp style is just more tedious to set up and use. I have the Lansky version which works well and gets results but is the cheapest made and just not great to use and it's slow.
I stand by what I said though about hand sharpening. Alex at Outdoors55 totally changed my outlook on using fixed angle vs free hand. You can buy a single double sided diamond stone for like $20, a strop and compound for another $20-30 and you're in business.
And with diamond you don't need the water mess and it's a lot easier and more forgiving than traditional Japanese water stones. I really believe anyone can do it with a tiny bit of practice. It's not learning a complicated skill like I thought it was, at least not to get really decent results. And once you do it a few times, it's very fast. You're not pulling out contraptions and setting up. It's amazing honestly. I'm glad companies like this can have a business that succeeds but imo it's really not necessary and people just don't realize it.

there are people for whom accumulating complicated gear is the point. in every hobby. now where are my aerodynamic cycling shoelaces?

The fact that you were removing sharpie from the edge and not the blade first means that if you increased the angle from where you started it would only hit the edge more. No way was the edge 23 degrees or so like you claimed. it was likely less then that since you would have had to decrease the angle to get more even with the sharpie. the system seems cool but i'd probably steer away from this system considering the lack of modularity and expense.

1.5k for sharpener? Tsprof K03 full set is cheaper, and propably better... For 1.5k you have full setup of diamond stones, diamond bonded stones, all what proffesional sharpener would like to have, + all strop microns you want. on 50 bucks diamond plate + leather belt i'll have the same result you had on this sharpener..
