This video explores the difference between a consumer and a maker.
We all switch between the role of consumer and maker in our day to day life, but there are people around me that seem to spend a bigger chunk of their time being makers. I aspire to be like them, because I genuinely think that they are better and more valuable people for it.
Don’t feel entitled to things working.
Instead, assume responsibility, and make things better.
Be a light, not a judge. Be a model, not a critic.

I am loving these reflections about programming and about the suffering we encounter as programmers every day. Actually, I find these walks much more interesting and rewarding than a simple coding exercise that I could find in many other technical sources.
+Carlos Baraza I am just a bit afraid of you loosing an ear due to gangrena.
Thanks. It's indeed a bad thing when people express their frustrations about tools in a negative way. We should be grateful and respectful to the makers of the tools we love and use on a daily basis. I think most of us *are* respectful to each other in these discussions and have good intentions. We should not stop sharing our experiences and discussing pain points that we encounter. These frustrations are real. Ignoring them is just ostrich policy. We should actively seek to improve either existing tools or come up with new tools. I think the core is that we have to turn our little annoyances in a positive, constructive dialog, and together try to make our beloved tools even better.
This is the best episode from funfunfunction series. It tackles something more important than typical developer mindset. It projects new, responsible way of thinking to all the paths beyond you.
Thanks!
Love the little walks. But, I'm missing the learning.
Definitely looking forward to your next coding episode.
Your videos got recommended at our last usergroup meetup in my area. They've been really useful to a lot of folks around here.
I'm also actually happy to see you making these 'opinion pieces' (for lack of a better phrase) alongside your craftsmanship pieces. Sometimes folks will not agree, and sometimes they will. In the end, either way you are making the js ecosystem a better place by producing material. I hope you keep going and going.
Thanks, for all of it. Its working really well.
On tools: a mentor once defined tools to me as anything we use to extend the capability of our nervous system to achieve our goals. I like that definition, it is just general enough without being useless.
Hey Jesse. Flattered to hear that they are getting recommended at meet ups, that is so cool! Thanks for kind words and support, glad to have you following the channel.
Watching this channel somehow makes me extremely happy
Great idea to start off that topic with the metaphor of the lake burp, making us realize the universe owes us nothing. The rest of the idea receives so much more clarity after that tangible life or death example.
Glad you liked it! I was REALLY close to cutting it from the script to shorten it.
I'm so SO grateful for all the great work people do then freely share and (maybe) maintain for us. No matter what, their tool generally gets you farther along in fixing your problem than you otherwise would have been. I worry that we're chasing OSS authors away with our sense of entitlement and poor (+1) etiquette. We should always approach an OSS author with grace and gratitude. If we have the time and ability, we should strive to be helpful. If we only take and moreover only take with a sense of entitlement, then we should be ashamed of ourselves. OSS authors honestly inspire me to be a better version of myself.
Great video!! Love this new format!
It's easier to SAY things than to DO things. You can easily criticize with words, but to make or improve, that requires serious thinking and effort.
People love to criticize because they think that makes them look smarter, but the smart ones are the one that make it work!
I love everything about this video.
I love everything about YOU!
I love lamp
I've thought this for forever, thanks for saying it. Keep up the good making!
Thumbs up for quoting the seven habits of highly effective people!! Thanks for making this video!!!
"The universe doesn't owe us...." damn! Truth! This is why a first principle should be thankfulness whether you believe in a God or not, we are really lucky to be here. The atmosphere is nice.
Thanks for the videos dude! Helping get me through the day!
Glad you linked to this today. I thought I had seen all your videos, but it turns out I've missed at least one lol. Great talk!
I love your reflections on our craft, keep them coming!
I saw them all, and this is your best video.
+fartarget82 thanks, i really like this One too
"Grrr, I am gonna home and write an article on Medium." I had to subscribe... Btw, I found this through Anchor.fm.
Learning soooooooo much!! Thank you for the brilliant videos! I am busy working my way through all of your videos, but I am missing something. Source control, and the conflicts that goes with it...
Thanks for another great video and for this humility reminder!!
Besides the good stream of thoughts, I just love the light and the scenery.
Thanks for sharing, as always. Like the new format and the camera is super quality.
+Avindra Goolcharan Thanks, Avindra! Glad you like it. The camera (G7X) is new for this specific video, I'm pretty happy with it.
Perfectly timed ending
i don't know why every time i watched ur videos episode, i always laughin and having fun with ur theoretical explanation while implementing it.. looking forward to ur next episode, and please explain us how we use js for the server-side, keep it up bro!
Thanks! Another inspiring video!
Sweden looks so much like British Columbia. architecture, landscape, climate, and vegetation. It's interesting to me that so many Swedes emigrated to BC in the late 1800s and early 1900s. How did they decide in advance without travelocity :) great video, BTW. I'm enjoying your series.
Thanks for another inspiring video!
love from the 021 brother, I appreciate your time and effort, much love
I'm sure those ears were really hurting when they defrosted later.. but I loved the video :)
Absolutly fantastic video. I agree completly and +1 for xkcd quote.
Are you aware that most of your face is frozen?
+Kris Roadruck Scandinavians do not feel such things
Great video!! :)
Great video!
So good mpj!
I realized things will be messy in Android when I discovered it does not have a file browser component for users. Nice channel btw, just stumbled on it.
You read the sad state of web development too huh, good points man :)
Is that frost on your mustache? haha
I teach middle school. You gave a lesson idea. Thanks
Fantastic walking item!
Good episode
Dude, feels like your walks are fraught with danger. High speed trains, speeding cars, polar bears hiding in the trees... please be careful!
Very much agree on the message you're conveying. But I felt to cold to stand the whole video, even though I'm a swede too!
Damn my weak genetics :'(
Hi, extra thing i would like to know, what camera do you use for filming ? i really really like the grain; thank's a lot'
G7X in this one
This video was such.... truth
Cool video, nice perspective. Just got
My first front end web dev job in Stockholm. Went on a fair few interviews, but most of the people I interviewed with were strangely entitled rude individuals. It was very odd, and if I wasn’t following all the top people in JS on Twitter, or knew every library inside and out, then they were assholes about it. What’s up with that?
Nice Place !
Beautiful video, although it was nerving to see you crossing train tracks and then highway in below zero temp.
please what's that quote? Can you say it again?
nailed it
You sound like Milton Friedman lol. Not that I am complaining about that.
From minute 7:00 you can witness a greasy advice..
true true
jajaja 6:58 priceless
Where do you live? Looks so beautiful there!
+Roni Hamri Somewhere close to Gothenburg I think :)
+Roni Hamri He walks passed a lot of stores in the video, just search it on Googlemaps if you wanna be a stalker ;)
reminds of 'fetishism of commodities'
PLEASE DO A DOCKER VIDEO. preferably WITH KITEMATIC
Haha it's part of being a developer. IT DOESN"T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You look like some animated character. Good job with the video though.
please, more code)
hey :D
You live in a beautiful place, no doubt. But these videos walking around are harder to follow for non-native English speaker like me, because of the microphone quality, the sounds from vehicles, the fact that you are sometimes short of breath or sniffing etc... Could you consider getting back to indoor videos, or somewhere quieter ? Thank you, I really enjoy these videos
Wow. 60fps and 1080p on a 1080p screen. It looks like you're standing in front of me.
+John Michael Lafayette I don't know if anyone has ever cared what camera you use, but in this case, I can really see the difference.
Thanks! Another inspiring video!
