I cut the 5/8 tube 10 .125" eliminated nuts..installed 10 x 1.25 Helicoils... then made a cam shaped Spring holder with 3 holes. Removed Pulley bolt...rewelded opposite direction...bent everything opposite of how it was made..flipped spring over so now tensioner pushes up! Works great! 5/8 bar is now locked in won't spin and used original spring! Great idea I just made it better!
Nice! I ended up putting a different spring on there and doubling it back around the swing-arm and back onto the tensioner arm. Works great but after that plastic wears down it gets pretty loud. Might just go to a metal roller but I bet that will be even louder. Maybe a roller skate wheel or something would hold up, not sure. That plastic lasts for about 10 miles.
@@johnhock890 Yeah I needed quite a bit of tension for it to not oscillate up and down at at over 40 mph. I think a skateboard wheel might work better. Not sure if it'll fit on that tensioner though. Maybe just a metal roller would work, but it would be loud!

Would you be able to use a long bolt through the chain guard mount? Then put a nylon sleeve over the threads with a nut on the end for the spring attachment point? Would this be too close to chain movement?
I built one of these and they work great thanks, but I'm having a new problem. The rear driven pulley is terribly cut and bent from running it without the chain tensioner. I was Looking to get a new one and noticed in the video you said you replaced your old one, so wondering if you recommended anything.
Yeah you can buy just the rear pulley, at least you used to be able to on eBay and amazon. It would be listed as the “driven pulley” for a TAV2 30 torque converter.
Ride it for about an hour and you will have worn through the tensioner wheel. I got the same thing for a mini bike and was very disappointed that the spring is essentially unusable in most applications, and the wheel doesnt last at all, im currently using that arm with a solid slide adjustment I made for it and an idler sprocket instead of the wheel but it knocks the chain off on big bumps. I need a spring tensioner with the length of this and the functionality of the Craftsman sprocket tensioner
@@lowlifeslides9918 The cool thing is you can use the metal roller from any old Coleman minibike jackshaft setup. It fits right on there. I used the bearings from the plastic roller and a washer as a spacer tube extender. All stuff a lot of people have laying around. The metal roller is so quiet too, opposite of what I thought would happen. Might want to try it. I think a sprocket roller might be cool too.

I’m glad you addressed this, when I test drove mine for the first time the chain popped off. Couldn’t tell how it happened at first because the chain seemed so tight when I put it back on, then loose while rotating like you pointed out. Are you getting a longer chain to help fit the bigger shocks?
Not for that, but for the 60t rear sprocket. But if I was leaving stock sprocket and just upgrading shocks to longer ones I'm not sure if I'd need an extra link or two or not. I'm guessing I'd need maybe one at least but that's just a guess. And I have seen many people have issues with chain tension on these things stock over the years. My chain didn't come off but it was rubbing on inside of driven pulley bad a few times and it sounded like it was going to pop off. I think chain tensioner would help that! I'll know soon. 👍 Might also need a spacer between sprocket and driven pulley too though.

Yeah isn't that just so slick? Like I said, wish I thought it up! I have never really dealt with chain tensioners before so I'm going to get a bunch of different springs to test out. Hope I can find some locally that will give me enough tension but not too much, like you said. Also I have been working on vid for the 9t/-60t (or 8t if possible) setup but I ended up having to do the shocks and the tensioner, chain obviously, and also driver pulley and everything at the same time. Also trying to measure everything so eventually I can cut off the driven pulley shaft mount and use a regular TAV plate. But yeah hope I can make a vid about it all that makes any sense. LOL 😆 Also got that front brake kit / stage one kit, and some other stuff. This mini bike is going to be pretty cool when it's done!

I'll see if I can find a link to that package of springs. Ended up drilling a hole higher in the tensioner swingarm and looping spring around the swingarm support. I did shoot a vid about that but not sure where it is. I also used a metal roller off of CT200U type jackshaft chain tensioner and it worked on this tensioner. I bought that from gopowersports for $12. I'll have to make a separate vid about that but I do show it in one of these MB200-2 vids somewhere.

I just don't have time to do stuff like that, especially in the summer, sorry. It's pretty easy though. All you really need is a cheap hacksaw and a drill as far as tools go. From Ali Express stuff comes from China so might be a month or as little as a week. That chain tensioner I linked to took quite a while, I think 2 weeks to get here last winter. OMB Warehouse is pretty good usually. I think GPS needs to hire more people or something,. they are always backed up it seems. But I always eventually get my orders from them but it takes a few more days than I'd like. But if you call or email and stay cool with them they have always been cool with me.

I have seen people use skateboard wheels. I rode it around then lubed chain bike rolls better! Didn't put alot

Yeah I get it. Mini bikes are so much easier and sometimes more fun to ride. Much less serious than a 270 lb bike! Pit bikes are fun too.

I used a metal roller and it works great. Yeah the plastic roller wears too much.

Also could get a longer bolt and then just run the tensioner right off of the left swingarm bolt and not run a tube to the other side.
