You are absolutely CORRECT. Thanks for informing me that the balancer shaft has a TORQUE TO YIELD STRETCH BOLT. Thanks, Mark

you wont have to remove the engine from vehicle necassarily .
but you will have to remove the timing cover and oil pan to visually inspect timing marks as you manually rotate the engine over with wrench.

    Mechman4-
My ‘68 bronco’s 289 begins seriously vibrating at 2800 rpm. Occurs on all 4 gears and when not in gear. So far I have replaced the harmonic balancer, the motor mounts, replaced plugs, electronic distributor, upgraded coil, checked firing sequence, and the ignition from points to dynaspark. Regardless, the truck is next to undriveable above 3k rpms.
Does this sound like a balance shaft/timing issue?

The ford 4 liter had a ballancer shaft.
If your ford bronco has the 289 cubic inch displacement engine its a v8 5 liter which does not have the ballancer shaft in it.
Not sure if you meant 1968 or 2008.
Ford didnt make the bronco in 1968.
Do you have any check engine lights.come on with your drivabillity issue ?
No power above 3800 rpm ?
If no check engine light on and no stored code to retrieve which would tell you the problem.
      Could be fuel delivery problem.
Check your fuel pressure followed by replacing fuel conponents like fuel pump and pressure regulator if pressure is low.

    Great video
Wish i had have see your video while i had the my motor open and out of the car . Have installed new timing chains front and back of motor.
That part has all gone well but i had no idea about the timing of the balance shaft. I remember lining up the dots on the sprocket gear but did not pay any attention to the hole on the balance shaft.
I think the timing is out because the motor has a strange vibration at higher revs as it goes through the gears.
Is there any way of checking this other than exposing the front timing chains.
If it is out how can it be corrected without taking the motor out of the car .
    Look forward to your reply
    Regards George

      hello George,
      sorry for late reply.
I believe you may be able to check your timing marks align by removing the oil pan and visually inspecting dots align when cylinder number 1 is at top dead centre on compression ignition stroke.
however correcting this allignment if out may require removing timing chain cover to remove balancer shaft bolt to reposition balancer shaft gear to crank gear.
Allot of work to correct less work to check.
      hope that helps.

How would I know if my 2009 Mustang 4.0 v6 base model is equipped with balancing shafts? Without taking the engine apart

It's been a long while since I worked on these engines.
As much as I would like to answer your question for you.
I dont want to give you incorrect information.
Is there a ford dealer in your area that you could ask a mechanic at ?
I will research it a little on my end and see if I can find anything out regarding your question.

This automotive forum descussion suggests that only ford 4 liters with ballancer shaft were fitted to 4x4 modal vehicles. So although not 100% certain, ita unlikely that your ford mustang has a ballancer shaft engine unless someone (previous owner) installed 4 liter into your mustang that was out of a ford explorer 4x4 modal.

I have a question, if the balancer is removed to be used in a Ranger 2x2, is there a problem?

    • @mechman4

Not 100 % sure to be honost.
It was quite some time i made the video and dont remember the details behind the interchangabillity of this engine.
From.what i can remember the ballancer shaft 4 liter engine was exclusive to the ford 4x4 market.
But.it might bolt up to a non 4x4, you would need everything though, the ballancer shaft the chain the oil pan the jackshaft.
      Everything !
It might be allot easier to remove a 4x4 complete engine from vehocle to instal in your 2x2.

hi brother. you know iremoved the chain from the lefht side head and the chain from the crankshaft. but i dindnt removed the balncer shaft chain. so i put the cylinder 1 at the top dead center on compresion but the mark on the balancer shaft i didnt put on its timing. do you think im gonna have trouble for that?

    • @mechman4
      @mechman4  7 років тому

If you didnt remove the ballancer shaft chain and the tensioner was still keeping ballencer chain taught/tite so no chance that chain could have jumped teeth, than your good. no worries.
the timing procedure in my video is only if you have removed the ballancer shaft chain or if you believe ballancer shaft chain has jumped teeth due to a failled tensioner like was the case on my engine.

How do I know if my explorer has a bance shaft?

    • @mechman4
      @mechman4  3 роки тому

Your explorer has a ballancer shaft.
Ford used the engines with ballancer shaft almost exclusively on all 4x4 SUV and trucks.
Only some passenger cars got the ballancer shaft engines

I hate how these idiots tell you all about everything there is to know about bolts except what size the GD socket or torx size it is. By the way the ones that hold the balance shaft in place is an E10, I am going to take all my torx with me.
