- Agnetha chose Yesterday Once More by The Carpenters as one of the most influential songs in her life.
Here is a little interview with Agnetha from 2013 where she talks briefly about meeting Karen and Richard Carpenter at some point.
(The meeting actually took place in Germany, 1978)
Agnetha and Karen duetting together would’ve been epic
Don't you know it.
But at least we have a video on UA-cam of Karen Carpenter singing one of Abba’s songs called Thank You for the music on The Tonight Show.
Absolutely! Karen had a lower voice, just like Frida, would have sounded great with soprano which is Agnetha's voice.
@@BO_Riddle They both did "The End of the World" too. Not a duet, they did it separately but still...
@@76Bigsmile yes exactly
Thank you Agnatha, for remembering Karen and her Incredible voice. 😌🎶
My father met Agnetha he was a taxi driver in Liverpool, she got n his cab at Liverpool airport and he drove her to North Wales 1990s, one of the hilights of his life RIP DADDY 💖💖💖
Wooooww
Hey live in North Wales!
Karen carpenter ..most beautiful voice ever ,❤️
I always find it hard listening to Karen Carpenter without getting a little teary. There was a deepness in her delivery that came from a deep well of pain and suffering.
Karen Carpenter was one of a kind...absolute perfection. It’s just so sad that she never saw herself that way.
Two beautiful voices and two beautiful ladies.
My two favorite ladies! Many hours of joy! I still listen almost daily!
Both of them performing together on the stage would have been epic.
Agneta, Karen, and Judith Durham from The Seekers would be a world class act!
Absolutely. The three best singers of the lot
@@englishman1960 Annie Lennox too and make it a quartet to end all quartets
You are spot on!
Carpenters & Abba are still my faves from the 70s!!
ABBA met The Carpenters in Germany on the "Starparade" show in Bremen in 1978.
I think they also met at the Unicef 1979 Concert For The Children. Olivia Newton-John and the Bee Gees were also there.
@@renarga6886
Karen Carpenter wasn't in the Concert for UNICEF 1979
LOVE ABBA AND CARPENTERS🤩🤩🤩🤩
Welcome to the club, Erik!
@@Mario-xr3jo Hey Mario
ABBA has been my fave music since 1974, when they won the esc. Waterloo just exploded out of the television screen. I had to surrender. The first time I heard Carpenters was in 1975, Only yesterday was playing on the radio. I was sold immediatly. My taste in music, has quite a BIG range. ABBA, Beatles, Carpenters, Def leppard, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Nazareth, Mike Oldfield, Prince, Queen, Kenny Rogers, Supertramp, Toto, Wet wet wet.......
My fave ABBA songs changes all the time. One day it's One of us, then The king has lost his crown, then Ring ring, then Another town another train, then S.O.S., then it's The name of the game, then, Voulez Vous, and then Tiger, then TWTIA......
By the way, have you heard that 5 new ABBA songs will arrive later this year, as well as an ABBA avatar movie? Bjørn confirmed it last month on BBC NEWS. Sooooooo looking forward to hear the girls harmonize again, on new ABBA material, maybe even Bjørn will take on vocals on one song. Never lost hope since 1982. Y have an ABBA DABBA DOOO DAY🤗
@@erikskifte8862
It was exactly the same with me, Erik.
@@erikskifte8862
So Napoleon did surrender and so did you... :).
By the way, where are you from, Erik?
Best pop bands EVER!!!
Probably my two favourite female singers ever!!!!
Karen Carpenter.,Agnetha and Frida will be remembered as 3 of the finest and most perfect, beautiful female voices in music history bar none!!
Karen’s voice is recognizable, as is Linda Ronstadt, Barbara Streisand, and many more worthy of that honor. Agnatha and Frida are more tied to the group and not so much their voices, as I doubt somebody coming up with their name upon hearing them sing absent of any ABBA songs.
@@Now_lets_get_this_straight Yes Linda and Barbara are great singers but I didn't reference them as the video is about Agnetha meeting Karen Carpenter. Also I disagree about Anna and Frida's voices not being recognised outside of ABBA songs as they both have strong vocal examples before and after ABBA which are well know to many people around the world.
@@nigelmurray9000, sorry I misunderstood you saying that they are “3 of the finest and most perfect female voices in music history”. I stand by what I said, Karen’s voice is unique, no misunderstanding her voice, as is Streisand, Ronstadt. Celine and many other great voices. Agnetha and Frida have beautiful church choir voices. They would have never gone that far without being in a unique group. I’ll add that yes they were notable before ABBA and has some success having been with ABBA but would not have succeeded at the level they did unless with other talents like ABBA. Don’t get me wrong, I love ABBA, turned my kids into ABBA fans and have gone to see ABBA TRIBUTE GROUPS, but I wouldn’t go any farther in my praise for them that I did.
@@Now_lets_get_this_straight Absent of Abba songs people will recognize their voices.
just think if they both did a duet
Agnetha and Karen - Now there's true class for you!
The best female leading singers I've ever heard in all my life.
I recall seeing Richard in an interview a year or so after Karen's passing and the host asked him some of his other favorite artists...one of the half dozen or so he mentioned was ABBA. I've often thought ABBA's recordings were like the next step on the evolution of the super pop vocal groups like Mamas & Papas, Fifth Dimension, Carpenters, etc, and it's not hard to see Richard admiring that same perfectionism obvious in ABBA's records. As a kid I was all things Carpenters until my next phase which was ABBA. But enough gushing, just nice to see Agnetha giving props to my other favorite pop idols of the 70s.
Wait, the next step of evolution to being a super pop group!? Are you kidding me! Just because they didn’t achieve that status in the US doesn’t mean that wasn’t achieved worldwide.
The humility of Agnetha is so nice. Because Agnetha is, for me, the best singer of all time.
Both born in the same year... the same year as my mother. Both women have the ability to move me to tears, but Karen just edges out Agnetha with that hauntingly beautiful voice.
Karen Carpenter, best female vocals, ever.
@Tricky Dicky Ball You got that right!
Agnetha, who also sings very well in his mother tongue, Swedish and Spanish!
Agnetha recorded "The End Of The World". Karen sang "Thank You For The Music" during a TV show. There was a special bond between the two divas. They were the best female lead singers in pop music history, hands down.
their voices would have been incredible together--Karen's silky emotional tugs with Agnetha's explosive dynamics.
Frida's voice was very similar to Karen's, so we can have an idea of what an Agnetha-Karen duet would have beeen like.
@@renarga6886 Frida was a mezzo soprano while Karen was a contralto. But yes they both had a warmth in the vocal colour.Agnetha was a soprano similar to Olivia Newton John's range. All 4 were utopic.Possibly the most precious female voices in mainstream pop music.
ahhh i love both carpenters and abba very much and this vid made me so happy 🥺🥺 they both loved each other's music a lot.. how cute!
ABBA and the Carpenters! Those are two of the best bands from the 1970's! Agnetha and Karen two beautiful women who know how to sing! We will always miss you, Karen, you had such a beautiful voice! Karen Carpenter (1950-1983) Agnetha, we would like to see you sing with your fellow ABBA members, Bjorn, Benny, and Anna-Frida. Hopefully, some time soon!
Richard Carpenter regarding Abba's Thank You For The Music:
"A terrific song and even better record, but, of course, nobody does ABBA like ABBA.
I was really taken with that song.
We first heard them perform it on a highly popular music program in Europe called " Starparade" on which we were both performing in Bremen, Germany, 1978.
We laid down a track, but the more I thought about it, I realized that, as usual, Benny and Bjorn had done the definitive arrangement and all I'd be doing was copying it; something I just don't do, of course. It's an outtake, never completed and in storage with the rest of the stuff in Pennsylvania."
Karen did sing Thank you for the music on TV. I saw it in UA-cam
What a beautiful girl Karen was,and my God what a voice her diction was so perfect and she is so sadly missed,,I cried when I saw the film THE KAREN CARPENTER STORY but remember her with fondness RIP sweet KAREN ,thank you for this video and RICHARD you wrote such beautiful music sung by beautiful sister Karen thank you from IRELAND
I want Richard to release all those unreleased Carpenters demo's from the vault!!
We deserve to hear them after all these years!
I only discovered because of this short video that Karen Carpenter sang Abba's 'Thank You For the Music' once, pitch perfect of course.
That was an amazing performance too.
Look for Agnetha's amazing version of "The End Of The World".
its interesting to note that Karen was born March 2 1950, and Agnetha Fältskog was born April 5 1950,.,,
and interesting that Frida of ABBA and Petula Clark were both born on 15 November ... but Petula born several years before Frida.
Richard is also two months older than Benny speaking of ABBA and the Carpenters
@@agnethabjornabba9593 another (tenuous) connexion - swedish singer HARPO was born on the same date and year as Agnetha. On his song MOVIE STAR one of the backing vocalists was Frida of ABBA.
Imagine if they had a collab 😭
I had read they were at some event the same time. Lovely to hear Agnetha talking about Carpenters. Karen was born March 2nd, 1950 and Agnetha April 5th, 1950. As someone has already mentioned 🌞
I think Agnetha was at Karen's funeral, too. Not sure.
Amazing two singers 💕
Agnetha & the rest of ABBA certainly new fully well for along time about The Carpenters & their dominance of the 70's. In fact the Carpenters sold more records than any other American group between 1970-80. I know Karen & Richard were ABBA fans & always wished otherstheir best. With that said, I don't want to undersell ABBA in anyway. I actually think that they should have won more over here in America, instead of Dancing Queen being just the one most related to them. They made wonder records, it's just The Carpenters were in a league of their own & winning, winning, winning!
Thank you very much for this clip!! wow! Greetings from Argentina.
De nada 🥰
Karen had a beautiful voice and they would sound great with each other I personally think they would sound awesome !
One’s a hot savoury dish, the other’s sweet cold dessert. Both are excellent ...
but it’s hard to eat both at the same time. ... except in my dreams, they duet
talk about double entendres.
I so LOVE both Karen Carpenter💐💐 and ABBA💐💐!!!! Both are\were so talented and yes, Richard Carpenter is just as talented in 🎼🎶🎵song arranging as Karen Carpenter💐💐 was in singing💐💐, drumming🥁, dancing, and acting!!! I so wish Karen Carpenter was still alive😢😢, but I pray she is alive in Heaven💛💛🙏🙏!!!
Two incredible singers. The 3'd- Olivia Newton John passed away "only yesterday"
Агнетта , какая же Вы чудесная , красавица , женственная , обаятельная !А голос -неповторимый .
My favorite female singers are actually Karen Carpenter and Agnetha Faltskog. Very few, if any, female singers of their caliber nowadays.
Two icons together, how amazing. And I'm not even an ABBA fan!
I didn’t know they met. Thank you so much for this video!
Both have beautiful voices. Agnetha and Karen....
I'm so glad they met :-)
Beautiful voice, but tragic life and sad ending...
"So that's the carpenters chosen by annjetta"...
Karen recorded thank you for the music Eve is my favourite carpenter's song
She preferred drumming, as she started in music, and too often overlooked there as well, she'll always be missed, and one of the best Woman voices in music and (soft) Rock
Agnetha is so classy and the most beautiful women in the world
There is Karen Carpenter...then there is every one else!
Did Agnetha like The Carpenters version of “ Thank you for the music” ?
agentha now looks like so many american actresses. if i saw her out now, i'd be trying to figure out what show she was on.
Interview with Ken Bruce, BBC Radio 2. Agnetha’s, ‘Tracks of My Years’, on his show.
Kinda surprised Agnetha knows so little about Karen. I guess I assumed the very top people in any field naturally know each other, interact or at least know more of each other (than any schmo like me does!). In my mind Karen and Agnetha are the greatest female vocalists of my lifetime. Such perfect control and such amazing expressiveness. There are many great voices but none surpass these two ladies. Would have been nice to hear them sing together (actually, another astounding voice of the era did, Olivia Newton-John, and it was fabulous!)
Agnetha is beautiful and charmous
I like voice
Ken Bruce interviewing I believe.
@ S C: Correct, my friend.
😍
She just told us stuff we already know
👍☺️✌️
In a sad sad way my friend you are making me donut you.
💝😍😙
Agnetha couldnt remember when or where they met The Carpenters but i think it was in a BBC TV Special in the UK where a lot of legendary artists participated in including Olivia Newton John and Andy Gibb
It was actually in 1978, Starparade in Germany! They both performed there.
I actually thought this was a thumbnail of actress Hayley Mills.
Karen Carpenter’s voice would blend with the music. It seems that all of today’s singers want to overpower the music and become the song.
Likewise, since Agnetha and Frida did so much harmonizing, they had to tone it down to blend in with each other rather than just belt it out.
@Jon Gilbertson Indeed, they all seem to scream and sing at you not to you a la Karen.
The photo of them together on stage. Where was that?
Germany, 1978 :)
@@therenazone Thank you!
All these years Ive called her Anita, not Anetta.
нихуя не понял, но очень интересно
