    Thanks guys, this is really clarifying! A question: Can you tell how that affects the calves? I was in Vancouver a couple of years ago, working right next to the historic clock. Next time will pay a visit!

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  3 роки тому

      If you can control excessive pronation, inward rolling of the foot, by spending 50 percent of the time on the outside of the foot and the other 50 percent on the inside of the foot there should be less strain on the calf muscle.

    so start with outside of heel and as you begin to stride with same foot should you try to strid throughoutside of foot to last metatarsal and then finish the stride with same foot by pronating to big toe and push off

    i have heard this can help prevent ankle sprains?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  4 роки тому +1

      It can. However, thinner soled shoes with a wide sole base or soles with an outflare will be better at preventing ankle sprains (i.e. barefoot shoes). High heel shoes, thick soled shoes with a straight sole or inflare can create problems, especially if you have sprained an ankle in the past and ligaments have stretched as a result. In some cases it may be advisable to look into prolotherapy to help tighten ligaments around the ankle. This will increase stability.

    My feet fully twist to the sides outward one of them is like that because of a car crash the other is like that probably to balance out the other foot either way I’m finding really fucking hard to keep my feet properly postured and idk if it’s permanent but it has been a good 5 years since that event so idk why my feet are still like this

    Man I'm confused I just saw a video that said the opposite to land with the ball of your feet and here they say with the heel

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  Рік тому +1

      This is specifically for walking. When running you will land on the ball of the foot. However, you may have noticed that you will shift your weight to the ball of the foot when you're walking on gravel or surfaces with other sharp objects, especially when the skin on the foot hasn't learned to tolerate those types of pressure.

    been seeing heel striking first is no bueno

  • @thenomad6924
    @thenomad6924 Рік тому +3

    This is entirely 100% wrong and walking like this will lead to knee, hip, and lower back pain.
    You do not walk on your heel. Walking on your heel means you have zero balance, zero cushion for the impact of your foot, disengaged the knee and the glutes.
    You should be landing on the front of the foot, with knees slightly bent. This engages the ankle, the knee, and the glutes, softens impact, and increases balance.
    Don't believe me, that's fine, but try to balance on your heels, then try to balance on your forefoot and tell me which is easier. Walk barefoot on a hard surface and try landing on your heel vs your forefoot and tell me it doesn't hurt after a few minutes. You don't land on your heel going up stairs, you don't land on your heel when you run, you just don't ever naturally land on your heel.
    Not to mention, gait is not how you stand, it's how you walk...

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  Рік тому

      You're absolutely right. When you walk in bare feet on gravel.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  Рік тому

      When running it's most often advocated to run midfoot to forefoot or on the ball of the foot, especially when running barefoot. However, natural gait when walking starts on the outside part of the heel, moves along the outside edge of the foot and then across the ball of the foot to the big toe for push off.

      The walking pattern for men and women follows along the same lines. However, there may be variations in the hip movement, as well as the foot positioning, due to differences in the skeletal structure. This is an interesting video that may help you get a better understanding of walking gait from an animator's perspective: ua-cam.com/video/BiSou7ZDBsw/v-deo.html. If you're not experiencing any pain when walking, own your walk. Be you.

    • @FootGeekzTV

      Arm swing should come natural unless there are restrictions at the hip or upper body. If you'd like to increase the range of motion at the shoulder we recommend Nordic walking poles to improve on arm movement.

    Supination and pronation are actions that occur ONLY at the radioulnar joint. You can ONLY supinate and probate the forearm. Please use proper anatomical terminology when posting educational videos.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  Рік тому

      In this video we're discussing foot movement. Supination and pronation are natural stages of motion during the gait cycle.

    • @GoAgsXX
      @GoAgsXX Рік тому

      @@FootGeekzTV Again, supination and pronation are actions that only occur at the radioulnar joint--in other words, these are actions of the forearm, not the feet. Unfortunately, a number of educational institutions have perpetuated the misuse of the supination and pronation terms. Supination and pronation are NOT natural stages of motion during the gait cycle as they do not occur anywhere in the lower limb.
