I just brought a 2018 with all the bells and whistle’s, whoever had it before me took awesome care of it. I love this car and every day I find out something new that it can do. I wanted one for 23 years and finally I got it.
Got a new Premium in September 2019. Very happy with it so far. Great functionality. Smooth, quiet ride, great handling, surprisingly good pick-up from dead stop, outstanding cargo space (fits two bikes in the back, with front wheels off), excellent in almost every way. Just two very small comments, recommended improvements if you will: (1) I'd like a couple mpg better mileage if possible (like the Impreza), and (2) at high speeds when I want to pass, it doesn't give me quite as much pep as I'd like. But all it all, it's the best car I've ever owned! Footprint is as small as the Honda Civic hatchback, but feels so much more like a luxury SUV. I'm sold on Subaru!!
Can we get an update on if you still like the car please? I'm thinking about buying one
@@ZeroKoda I have a few complaints, so I have mixed feelings overall. The media player had lots of problems, and when I tried to get them fixed on the warranty, Subaru was awful to deal with. I also don't particularly like the pockets and cubbies in the front for storage... no easy place for maps or menus, and the cup holders require I reach back not forward to get my drinks. I still really like the ride and handling and pick-up (getting to highway speed), and the rear cargo space works well for carrying bikes when I flip down the back seats.
I got this exact model as my 1st car in the bright orange and I freaking love it.
Fits 2 car seats easily. The hatch has room for my boxer to travel with me as well.
For a beginner driver I couldn't have made a better purchase
The rigidity of the frame with the tighter steering makes the curves fun without having to tap on the brakes. Take the curves with total confidence
Nice honest review that does not criticise the power and CVT. Good job.
I have a Premium 2014 and you described it perfectly! Going strong at 85,000 miles!
I test drived one on Friday. I'm leasing one next week :) Limited, fully loaded.
We just got the orange limited version, love this thing! It’s a perfect package for all all around car. Can’t wait to take it camping as well.
I've seen hundreds of reviews. Your style is peaceful, but clear, and comprehensive. Tells the audience what she wants to know. Great music background, but you might want to set it a bit lower, since I want to focus on what you say, more than anything else. Great job overall!
Good informative review, I appreciate the lack of bias and like the more factual style reviews.
I have a 2019 Subaru premium crosstrek with 3,000 miles now: Likes - torque vector steering, eyesight safety feature especially ACC works well, interior design, handling during slippery wet roads/highways, braking system can handle the weight of the vehicle with ease/smoothness, blind spot warning lights on side mirrors gets your attention even when you have tunnel vision.Dislikes - lane keep assist is a little aggressive, push start only on limited trim, not auto door lock when on drive and unlock when on park, no visible usb port (its inside center console), center console could use a little more better padding for elbow support.
Planning on my future car and want a compact SUV model. After watching this review this is a strong contender for my next vehicle. Thanks!
Well,,, I'm convinced,,, this is my next car... thanks... 🤜🤛
We just got one yesterday, got the limited version and so far love it. Haven’t been able to spend too much time in it yet but the features are great. It will be an excellent addition to our car package.
That music was lit.
Yep! Somewhere Clint Eastwood was hiding behind a tree trying to get a bead on the bad guy...
I love they approach the power of the car. Everyone seems to get hung up on that in all these reviews of people basically comparing it to sports cars. He said it well "it's accelerates well and has a bit of jump off the line, but it's no sports car". No one buying a cross trek to drag race. and sure you probably won't aggressively overtake someone at 105mph but between 0-85mph no issues getting there or with overtake...
Just bought a 2018 yesterday...Premium. Cant Wait to pick it up tomorrow!!!!!
@@igamesometimes2 Love it. Drives great. Feels great. Awesome gas mileage. Great purchase. So far.
Still runs great. I change my own oil. Last change, full synthetic Mobil 1. 2000mi in on the new oil change. Still runs great. Great safety features. Maintains power during mountain driving. Love it still.
I just ordered a 2019 manual crosstrek premium from the dealer - looks like a fantastic vehicle for exploring in our PNW mountains. Super excited!
How do you like it so far? Any issues with blue tooth? What about convenience in the USB chargers and other features? Andy screen console concerns?
I have owned this car for a year. It's a really good car. Handles brilliantly & safety features are fantastic. I find the engine power is fine
Why are you guys complaining about the power?
It has the best in the segment and price range. Also best AWD in the range too
If you equipped with a WRX engine and it will cost more than that. People will then complain about the price for such vehicle made
Agreed, but giving it a turbo option would solve both complaints. A "Crosstrek XT"...
There's no power problem.. it's a nice car to drive. Test drove one the other day.. it's a really nice package
@@FeWolf can you comment on that a little more? Looking to buy one, but I vaycay in the smokies often
Yes, I travel alot to Tn using HWY40 which is heavy traffic at time, especially Tractor Trainers, passing them is a very slow process, it really lacks in the passing power, I usually switch on the fly to the paddle shiftier, but his only helps so much. I also noticed that I never seen them towing, I had 5 Subarus, so I like them, but to tell you the truth I would not get this model with the current engone, I am part of the offical Subaru forums and they all say the same, a turbo for it is 5k, many of the other models are getting or will have the STI engine, my brother asked me and I told him to get the Forrester XT or XD, also note when I travel I have my wife, myself and dog and her luggage, about 400lbs all together. I am a Kayaker, so i go to alot of off road places to put in and take out out kayaks, the car does well in this, mud, wet clay, sand, rocks and ruts,,etc... With the CVT transmission you can not go over 4k RPMs until the blue ligh turns off, also I spoke sales staff, I got 4 people to buy Subarus, and they all love them, I will say I have had best customer service from the dealership, also about the lack of power, the sales person said the samething after she took one to the mountains of NC/Tn. I get up to 36mpg Hwy and city around 27. I have had the car for 4 years, 60k miles and not one issue with it, reason I buy Subaru, this will explain about the CVT tuned for MPG than for Power, www.subaruxvforum.com/forum/engine-drivetrain/37425-help-loss-power-various-points-2014-xv-cvt.html
Most popular car today in America. Count the commercials you see for this car. You hardly ever see them anymore....because there's not many left.
This WILL be my next car, but with the 6sp manual. To hell with that CVT!
Yep! I bought a new to me pre-owned 2019 Crosstrek MT6 last week. Only thing I am missing is the moonroof as my VW Golf I transitioned out of had one and I used it all the time.
Bought a 2017 last summer and love it.
Thanks for a great rewiew. My first Subaru that i still have is a Tangerine Orange 2012 diesel.Clever 4wd for use in Norway. As you said it is not a sportscar..but there is something about the car that makes you happy.I have been working as a car technician in many years and on several cars...The qualtiy on these cars are better than many competitors...All cars have there issues..but Subaru have a good reputation for beeing solid.Serve them properly and you have a good Subaru.
Great tour and narration. I really like that orange color.
I have this car and it is great I've had it for 2 years and I've never had a problem with it
This review was so pleasant to watch. Nice job! 👍🏼
This review video is surprisingly relaxing. Great job.
Friend of mine has one - i thought it was a 6 cyl. Fell in love with it . my nxt vehicle .
That background music made this video for me lol
My wife has one and we are getting 38.7 mpg!
I was maxing out at 29.5 until I put on A/T tires now below 26. What type of driving are you doing? Mine is heavy traffic highway.
just bought the sunshine orange color used one with 48k miles, the premium with the eyesight system. I've quickly fallen in love with this vehicle.... considering it holds up over the next 5 years that I'm making payments on it, I'll probably be a Subaru customer for life. It's amazing to drive, x-mode is wonderful and the eye-sight system has already helped me avoid a collision with another car twice. I do wonder if the eye sight system helps avoid hitting things besides cars like deer in the road.
Just bought one. This review is dead-on.
+1 for the really great production value in this video!
Excellent review and love the music.
i love the crosstrek living in michigan awesome in all the seasons . very fun to drive
Nice review. Would be helpful though to mention the comfort level of passengers in the back seats with respect to their height.
Had my SE Premium in CGK now for a year. Its brilliant.
Here in the UK - find me another.
i was waiting for your review, thanks you merci beaucoup
Love the reverse cam on this car!
Just test drove a 2018 Crosstrek... much more stable with a nice feeling of 'chunky' stability than the one I tried a couple of years ago. This is a Subaru WIN!
Several specification errors: Cargo capacity is up over last year's model to 55.3 cu ft--passenger room is also increased; EPA mileage is 27 city/33 Highway/29 Combined. Thanks for not berating the engine as so many others have. Subaru appears to have purposely reduced performance for the first 600 miles (1,000 Kilometers) to facilitate break in. If you do a long-term test on the Crosstrek, it would be interesting see how performance changes after the break in is completed.
Just a review posted on UA-cam were the owner noted his manual Crosstrek's performance significantly improved after he had driven the car for 1,000 Kilometers (600 miles). I'd recommend contacting Subaru customer service for specifics. I know my wife's Crosstrek (CVT) has seen improvements in mileage with each fill up of the tank (29 MPG on the first, 32 on the second, and 33 on the third). We just put winter tires on the Crosstrek with just under 1,000 miles on the odometer and have noted a slight decline in mileage. Hope this helps.
Manual says break-in period is 1,000 miles, like most manufacturers. Also keep rpm under 4,000, and don't drive a constant speed for extended period of time. I have 2,100 on my 18 Crosstrek, and my eight minute back and forth to work I'm averaging 26 mpg, going up and down a hill. Driving on highway, interstate I've seen 32.
awesome car and and awesome review.... both well composed and filled with useful content.
Put a turbo and a hood-scoop and I will buy one tomorrow.
Why? The Subaru European diesel with 250 foot pounds of torque would be better
Love the music!!
Thanks for the review. Im getting a black one! Look forward!
might be buying this tomorrow. really hoping the black one i want is still available.
People are complaining about the engine but my parents are thinking about getting me one when I’m old enough to drive and for a teenager it’s perfect because we don’t need to be going that fast anyways.
I recently bought a 2018 Crosstrek and I like it. It serves it's purpose. I wanted a vehicle that is AWD and will get about 30 mpg. I knew I wasn't going to break any records for speed and that's fine. That's what my RAM 1500 with the HEMI is for. The one thing I am not happy with is the Starlink entertainment system. I know it got an upgrade for 2018 but it's still slow and glichy. The U Connect works way better. Subaru has to do a better job with voice recognition, bluetooth connection, and the way it indexes mp3. An example is if you wanted to play a full album from a thumbdrive and commanded the Starlink system to play it, Starlink will not play the album in track order like it should, but will play the songs in alphabetical order. Since Subaru Technical Support was no help at all, I found a solution on the web and that was to create playlists for the albums using Microsoft Media Player. Starlink didn't recognize playlists from I-Tunes. That's not good when you got over 800 albums! And as I said before, the voice recognition although alright, could be a little better. Final complaint is just recently the Starlink system did not recognize the command to make a cellphone call. The system kept asking me "what type of music I wanted it to play", are you kidding me? It took a complete shutdown of my car for 5 minutes to solve the issue. Some might say that you should not expect everything out of a $30000 vehicle, but there are other manufacturers that are doing a better job in the entertainment field. Subaru markets it's product to a young tech savvy crowd and with that, they should cross there "t's" and dot their "i's" on everything
Yeah, I gave up on Starlink. My Bluetooth occasionally does weird things that required restarting the engine to clear. The other day the bass dropped out. It doesn't work with my Android apps...Podcast or music, so I just link via sound. I just wish it displayed my phone screen...keep it simple. The phone commands just don't work, but the phone audio is pretty good (could be better). I've adapted to make it work for me. Not perfect. But the car is more important than the tech.
I can't believe the CVT is *that* much better in fuel economy. A mile or two, sure, but four full mpg better both city and hwy? Surely you could coax the manual to close that gap with proper shifting.
I saw another review a while back with real world testing, and the manual actually got better gas mileage in the city than the CVT by I think 2mpg. The CVT only beat the manual in mpg for highway driving by 1mpg. I agree that with proper shifting there can't be that much difference between the two. I just ordered a manual transmission premium from my dealer.
I get an average of 29 driving around town...in Florida...frequently with AC on.
This could be my daily commuter/ hunting rig being that is awd. I could throw a deer or bear om top
This will be my next Subaru .
Keep it up the side by side old Vs new was a very nice touch
I have two 2017 Crosstrek and love them both. (One Automatic and one Manual). These two are numbers 5 & 6 Subarus for my family. They are great cars, with the only downside being they need more horsepower.
Good review, but the constant music replay of the banjo in the background was like listening to a cat in the dryer.
This replaced my old Pontiac Vibe as my daily/keep miles off my truck vehicle
He is like saying a bed time story
Hey, didn't the car reviewer previously to do reviews for Consumer Reports? Just curious as the face and voice seem familiar. Good review. Subaru has upped the game on the Crosstrek. :)
Once issue that all reviewers on youtube MISS...is that the rear hatch can NOT be opened by a latch inside....a key slot in the door either...only. by the keyfob....this is nuts
Solid, honest review, thanks.
Awesome 😀 😀 2018 Subaru Crosstrek AWD review .
The spokesman seemed to believe what he was saying. That makes him believable. Good voice too.
Subaru needs to at least offer the 2.5 engine in this car. The 2.4 turbo would be awesome
Why? The Subaru European diesel with 250 foot pounds of torque would be better
Shoot, I would take even the base BRZ motor over the motor used in this car. I had a 2014 premium model. I put a K&N drop in filter and a Borla axel back exhaust on it and felt as if I was THRASHING the poor thing on the highway to get power out of it. I traded it in on WRX Base and happy with the power I now have. The Crosstrek is a GREAT looking car and very comfortable, but the performance is lacking. If it had the power of a BRZ I would still have it........
The new model looks so much better compared to the old at 0:55
Dude nice music!
I just mine yesterday! Happy
Thank you for a very informative perfect review. I drove a 2017 loaner all day today and i was blown away with the peppy responsiveness after testing the boat like CRV and ho hum Tiguan. It a perfect size too ...roomy front and back seat. My model had the stitching but no moon roof or non manual seat control. Is the 17better than the 18?
Margo McCormack I have a 17. I didn’t do enough inspection when I bought it bc I’m an idiot, but found later the back seat has crap leg room.
Engineering Explained's channel mentioned that the 2018 added an extra inch to the rear legroom. ua-cam.com/video/4504jBH6UGs/v-deo.htmlm41s
why wouldn't I want to throw a muddy mtn bike in the back of my CX-5? I can buy a floor liner too and w/some forward thinking, bring a tarp along to cover bits/pieces that aren't covered and all is good, and I have a just as capable and more engaging vehicle to/from the bike trail...every vehicle we test drove w/a CVT was a (huge) turnoff...the HR- scared us during the test drive and we couldn't get out of it fast enough...we were willing to give up a few mpg (and simple infotainment) for driving feel, dynamics, and and overall "sporty" feel; something the Crosstrek has put 3rd or 4th on its priority list...I see lots of them around (OH), but it wasn't for us...
Great review.
The 2019 models base or not come standard with eyesight unless you get the manual 6speed just FYI.
I plan on buying one in January
I actually ended up liking them after seeing a blue 2016 Crosstrek two years ago.
Excellent review! Thanks so much. :)
It's the economy version of a Compass Trail Hawk as it has 8.7 inches of clearance and powerful enough AWD. More bang for your buck.
I rlly like the orange color.
Hey George. Your shorts and t-shirt getup give me great confidence in your professionalism.
Thumbnail says “I had to do it to em”
That was a good review, The only thing that I noted from my own test drive was that , if you go around a corner fast, the Crosstrek tends to "wallow" but it holds its line (I understand, its not a sports car but it was interesting to me as to know what is a maximum safe speed to go around corners with). Also not sure about the X-mode,, seems like an electronic version of a low gear.
I like this Zen music.
I have a 17’ Crosstrek so always annoyed when they change the design the next year 😡😡
I'm just buying this for the good mpg.
These MSRP's are way lower than the MSRP's at any dealer i've been to in New England.
I got mine at Planet Subaru in Hanover for $24999 with eyesight (pretty loaded) back in Jan. They are more popular in this part of the country, so we pay more. Supply/demand
In Florida, i paid $24,000 out the door for the premium model with sunroof, and other accessories included.
would’ve bought a lambo but i’m not quite there yet
Starlink is an utter dumpster fire of bugs and vulnerabilities. I have a 2017 Crosstrek, and it has had nothing but problems since day one. In my case, the first problem was that the phone would only connect 1 out of 10 times to the Bluetooth, Once it started connecting, I am now only getting track information on Bluetooth once in awhile, no real pattern to when it will show, and not show, also does not matter if its one USB or not. I have contacted Subaru about the problems as well, and in the case they say we have noted your problem, but do not give an ETA on when we will have a fix. My theory is that the fix will be released when these cars go out of warranty, and they can charge us for the patches. This is new car, with a head unit that should never have passed Quality Assurance with the shear number of bugs and problems it had.
Thanks for the video
I am coming round to the idea of this car over the Honda HRV. Good idea?
A Honda HRV would be last on my list and the Subaru near first. Have a 2017 KIA Sportage and having a hard time deciding on leaving my lease for the Subaru but the decision would overwelmingly be the Subaru over the Honda.
I like everything about it except the power. My 2009 Dodge Journey has 173 hp. This only packs 152 hp? Seems kind of light for an SUV Crossover for that year. What sells me about this Compact SUV is the AWD with 6 speed manual. I can still take this out for fishing and hunting. Any mechanical issues?
Ours has about 850 miles on it. Our trip A shows 31 mpg trip B shows 27.8. not sure if we can do better. This mog is on a 5 hour round trip interstate driving.
I'm averaging 28 mpg/ Best was 34. I drive near Boston with weekly trips to Maine. I've had it since Jam, 14k miles so far.
to have fun with this vehicle, you buy a 6 speed manual. Only then you get the monster out of this engine... yes i have owned it before so i know what i am talking about.
I have had the subaru XV (equivalent to crosstrek outside US) since Jan 2013, 170000km on the clock and the car is now making a whining sound, the dealer say it might be the CVT transmission after taking it for a quick test ride, and the price of the replacement part would be 2/3rds the price of a new car! Beware!
170,000 km? Think you could get that kind of mileage on a Renault? How about a Mini?
Great vehicle for a great price.
include a 2.0L turbo diesel option also a 6sp manual a 6 sp auto and the crappy cvt
I just bought this 2018 car Limited with eyesight , but the waiting time is too much 15 days to 45 days :(.
Longevity? Transmission issues in cvt ? Is there a manual ? I'm looking at a offroad capable SUV. I'm leary of alot of the current SUVs. Due to breakdowns or absurd pricing. These little buggers look to be a good replacement to my 02 blazer. Accept the offroad part. My blazer(not modified) does really well for trails or open ground, mud, snow, and I between. Curious I must test drive.
The price isn’t bad for that car and it’s supposed to last you for a very long time
You get better fuel mileage with the CVT but around 50,000 miles expect a transmission rebuild at a average cost between $4500 and $8000 sooo there goes those gas savings. The 6 speed manual is good for 200,000 miles at a cos of $1500 to $2000 for a rebuild.
I just bought a Suburu Crosstrek! I would’ve got a lambo but, I’m not quite there yet
both cars look basically the same in orange
I know that reference
Yaaaasssss
