If I may... two things 1) Also have to add rules in firewall and accept udp 500,1701,4500 and protocol 50 (ipsec-esp) /ip firewall filter add action=accept chain=input in-interface=ether1 protocol=ipsec-esp \ comment="allow L2TP VPN (ipsec-esp)" add action=accept chain=input dst-port=500,1701,4500 in-interface=ether1 protocol=udp \ comment="allow L2TP VPN (500,4500,1701/udp)" 2) in these rules, by default has been addigned input interface as eth1. That caused connectivity problems when trying to connect from internet, but it was ok trying to connect from inside the network... so just check the firewall rules and if they have in. Interface eth1, just leave it empty. THANK YOU!!

This is good. it worked for me. There is one thing though, the client computer is using the internet connection of the VPN Server. what can we do to ensure that client's internet traffic is not routed through the connected VPN? Thank you!
Like the commenters mentioned here if your looking to configure vpn on Miktotik routers ensure you configure the firewall otherwise you won;t make connection, recommendation to content creator ensure you include all steps necessary for proper configuration otherwise this information might be useless.

Public IP is provided by ISP. You may contact your local internet provider and see if they can provide you public IP address for your residence connection. They may charge you extra for this.

Check the preshared key. Don't copy it, try to type it.
